When PD said... "While a lot of kpop groups have done like the very minimalist soft dreamy pop sound for the english sound, because that is what's trendy. I do think that SVT added layer of much more in-depth and well-made sound. Also, as they have more personal touch to their productions, it really did make a better well-made song. NOT JUST LIKE... OH! WE'RE DOING IT BECAUSE WE'RE TRYING TO GET THE GLOBAL AUDIENCE. YES, WE WANT A GLOBAL AUDIENCE. BUT WE ALSO WANT A GREAT SONG, AND THEY DID." I really agree on this. Remember what our best producer, Woozi, said on their billboard interview, that HE and SEVENTEEN, in general, don't want to follow what is the trend. They want to create music that will express their true feelings, creativity, and explore more genre of music for Carats and for everyone to listen to. Thus, show their SEVENTEEN IDENTITY. Again. Seventeen doesn't follow the trend. Seventeen is the trend and trendsetter, themselves.

and for all the people acting weird, pledis and svt literally explained a long ass time ago that svt would focus on Korean and general Asian promotions for the first 5 years of their career, so from 2015 to 2020 (which they did and successfully have Asia wrapped around their fingers) so they did start some western promotions in the west in 2020 but as pd said, covid got in the way, them reaching out was always part of the plan especially as they have quickly grown to become one of the biggest kpop groups, and they made darling specifically to share their art with their non Korean speaking fans as well as continue to set their reach further beyond their already established fanbases !

the mv is actually inspired by peter pan! they have no shadows and when we see a clock breaking in the mv they get them back, theres a theory that the concept represents them letting go of their youth and acepting growing up! just like in peter pan where the clock basically showed that growing up is unavoidable so the concept actually fits really well into everything svt were doing with boyhood and youth in attacca/your choice

Ooo so the darling in the song could be their youthful selves. I like the idea of singing songs to our young selves and tell them how much we miss them, how much we love them. Now I am getting very emotional.

Darling is the last name of Wendy and her brothers in Peter Pan. In the video Vernon and the members represented Peter and the Lost Boys. The Darlings represent the Carat Fandom. The shadows represent fear of growing up and Seventeens fears of Fandom growing up as well and leaving them to pursue other interests as we know in Peter Pan Wendy and her brothers left Neverland to grow up also he only pointed out one book in his reaction but there was other books The Lucky Seven. 7 being the number of Lost Boys in Neverland. Growing pains this of course the journey of leaving childhood and moving into adulthood and finally Peter Pan the storybook itself. Also in the video are the Teddy bears in Peter Pan the youngest Darling child carried a teddy bear. We also see Dino with an umbrella or parasol the second Darling child carried an umbrella. The books these also represent Wendy because remember she read storybooks to the Lost Boys. The watches and clocks represent time standing still but also Hook and the crocodile remember the croc had swallowed a clock. Also in the scene with Hoshi the engraving on the watch submerged in water says boyhood. The light Vernon is cupping represents Tinkerbell. In the end the fear and shadows rage in like a storm and destroy the world of make believe and childhood and crashes them into a world that is overshadowed with fear and reality. There is a sign on the wall in the end that says fear is coming. The new album teasers are leaning towards members personal fears and struggles.

2:57 “Dino sounds really good in English” yes!!! I first noticed this when they did TTT #2 in Going Seventeen. Dino sang an English song in karaoke and it sounded SO GOOD.

If I'm not their fan, I would've thought that Dino's a native English speaker. His part is so addicting, I keep on repeating it. His pronunciation w/ his words is just so perfect, especially when he's singing. I just noticed that even before their debut (their predebut days), he already has a good pronunciation and accent. And it keeps on improving

darling is one of the few english release that has been stuck in my mind following the likes of 'middle of the night' by monsta x and 'the feels' by twice. it took me a couple of listens to appreciate the anti-drop but once i got used to it, i couldn't help but love it?? idk to me it feels like the perfect english release from seventeen, they didn't change their colours or genre to fit to the 'american standards'. so so excited for this comeback, especially after 'attacca' was a musical masterpiece. so happy to see u again pd, missed your reactions! sending good vibes always !

not gonna lie i was worried about the distribution of lines but they slayed in this song and also they didnt lose their 'seventeen style' i feel it was seventeen althought it was in english you know? so it was pretty pretty good to me 7:51 - it was vernon on the intro and then wonwoo, but i did get confused on mingyu and dino part (ima treat you better) at first i didnt notice dino there but after i was able to hear

The thing I love about Seventeen is that they sound really good together. Their chemistry translates into their art. Honestly, Darling is probably one of my favorite kpop english releases of all time.

I got a bit emotional too after someone explained that this MV is based on the idea of Neverland Boys in Peter Pan and letting go of our childhood and youth. Especially if the “Darling” is our young selves 😭

hey PD! they released individual trailers ('13 inner shadows') that continue this storyline and lead up to the comeback. it's similar to what they did for al1 so i really recommend checking it out before the album release! yes this comeback is more story-driven, but it's also very personal. i won't spoil too much ^^ i'm glad you liked darling, thanks for loving and supporting the boys for all these years

idk if this helps but the mv was based around the concept of the neverland boys, they never grew up, and so in their "paradise" they dont have shadows. there's also Peter Pan books in the early parts of the mv that hints towards this! as well as in the crossword thing with wonwoo at the start, it's a hint towards what happens at the end and the new album coming up! it's all connected :))

MV opens with Vernon putting his hand over his face and realizing he has no shadow. So the first verse doesn’t show him because he’s running back to tell them, that’s when he bursts in.

I think this is the intro for the actual title track like it is possible that the actual cb is a continuation if this. Also the amount of promotional clips and trailers for the album is insane. I know you don't watch teasers and trailer so maybe after the reaction for the title track you could watch the individual member teasers

I've been waiting for your reaction & review the moment this was released. 😂 I love what you said about how their objective for their English release is not only to capture a wider (and more American) market but also they just wanted to make a really good song. That's how Woozi and the rest of the members described it actually. They said it's really more about connecting with more carats around the world with a song they can easily understand so it can bring them comfort (without the language barrier).

I agree with the identity sound when it comes to seventeen and that's also what I've always loved about them even way before they launched this English single and I agree with getting confused with their voices, like as a big fan of dk's voice, his voice kind of got lost in the song? Idk how to put it. Nevertheless, this song really hits a soft spot and it keeps growing on me ♥️

I acc didn’t watch the MV until rn and you can def hear them better and differentiate them on audio when not distracted by the vid. And omg the vid ties so much into the teasers now it makes more sense looool. Shadow ver group photo only had one shadow rip and everything. Ugh we finally have lore to work on

Darling will also be on the new album Face the Sun (track no.1 to be precise hehe). And now with all the stuff we now about the comeback, it's 1000% tied :P We all suspected because of the sudden tone change at the end, and of course the logo was different too. But there are sooo many easter eggs. Starting with the shadow theme, and that book Joshua had (which thank you so much for the extra info always :3). The word 'Shadow' is also in the scrabble game during Wonwoo's part and that is actually the name for one of the album versions. The concept pictures for a lot of the versions are very reminiscent of Darling too. Can't wait! The tracklist looks insane as well. We have another legendary era approaching!
