A good survival knife can chop wood pretty often (I have never done this (for some reason youtube shorts kept showing me knife reviews for a while (the guy doing it seemed trustworthy)))

Its what people who only know it from movies think. That you need fire so you need matches... while on a desert island, having fire would be like step 5 of the survival

Rope is creatable and was a vital skill for thousands of years. There's no way in hell i'll be able to smith a knife or create a tarp. On an Island environment, weaving for basket traps is more important than rope weaving. Spearfishing is also the additional important method of food acquisition, knife can be your spear tip or helps to create your spear. Heart of Palm is also a tertiary food source you can acquire with knives. I don't think I need to argue for why tarp is more important.

Yes, yes he can. Everyone else dying because without shelter, you are just dead. First, water. Second, shelter, third, food. Fire is fourth, easily. And tarp helps with both water and shelter, the 3 things a anyone who has ever spent a night in the wild would get are knife, tarp and pot or rope. You are on a desert island, having a tarp is way more important than having matches for sure.
