@@Kiterpuss yes and no, it does and will clog the hair follicle which can result in possible permanent damage to the follicle itself. An ophthalmologist can only do so much to reverse what damage has been done (they're not just focusing on the patient's eyelashes, but more or so focusing on the issue of what was going on aka the problem which caused the patient's eyelid to become inflamed which they found and surgically removed what they could and then addressed the abrasions on the eye which was caused by the inbedded mascara in the eyelid. This was causing on the patient's eye to become inflamed and caused the scratches (abrasions) on the eye itself which is very serious and extremely painful, and caused an infection (aka this can lead to vision loss).

@@Kiterpuss no, i was responding to your comment (the part where you had said she must have unintentionally cleaned her lashes by showering or washing her face etc). I agree, but disagree at the same time. I think it was a great comment because a lot of people think just because you wash your face and try to avoid the eye area (due to possible advanced aging since this skin is way more delicate than the rest of your face) it will remove the makeup. I'm assuming she either didn't wash her entire face as often as she should or tried to avoid her eye area when washing her face. We weren't given that much information/details on that specifically.

There was a girl in my dorms who NEVER took off her makeup. A friend of mine, who was bolder than eye, said something to her about that being unhealthy. The girl said, "it's fine. I just freshen it up in the morning." That was back in 1978 & I still think about it when I wash my face at night.

I had a friend like this in high school; it was like she was _afraid_ to let ppl, even other girls (she was het, btw) see her bare-faced. I know this, because even on camp, she just went straight to bed without cleansing, & then legit the very first thing she did in the morning after sitting up was reach for her compact to touch up - & I mean the _first_ , as in before she'd even gotten out of bed. I was shook. It just logically seems like a vicious circle, to me; the less care you take of your skin, the more makeup you'll need to look good, but the more makeup you wear, the more care your skin will need to stay in good condition. So just wearing makeup constantly is a dragon swallowing its tail.

I was face timing my friend a while ago when she started touching up her already full-glam makeup. I asked if she was getting ready to go out, as it was like 9 or 10 pm, and she gave me this incredulous look like I was an idiot and that she always applies her makeup before bed so she doesn't have to do as much the next day. She said she had learned to sleep in it so it doesn't mess up. I was shocked to say the least. And she's not someone who takes any form of criticism well so the most I was comfortable saying was that it's not great to do that. I myself have slept in my makeup on a few occasions and have found the little bits of mascara imbedded in the inside of my eyelid, so I can only imagine how much she has accumulated over the years. I worry about her health in general, but learning this tidbit about her self-care habits just about sent me over the edge.

I used to use makeup wipes constantly as my only cleanse because I didn’t need the sink. I never understood what micellar water was until I started watching your channel. In addition to a cleaner face, it also so much less irritated and red. You, Robert, Marcus, and Ashton bring so much laughter, light, and knowledge to my little world over here. Thank you so much 💜 💜 💜

I have improved my eyeshadow skills so much since I was hurt. Often times I get so dead dog tired I can't make it to the sink but I make sure to take it off with micclear water in bed. Lots of commenters talking about problems washing off makeup when dealing with depression, here’s my tip! Keep a cleanser and some pads by your bed (if you have a bedside table it’s easy). You can get cleansers that don’t need water, i have a Vitamin E cream one from the body shop that is really good at taking off my makeup. You just rub it in and then wipe it off. I’ve had recurrent severe depression for about 15 years now, and this is something i only started doing about 4 years ago but it’s been such a game changer. Not needing to be in the bathroom to use the sink, you don’t even need to get out of bed, and it leaves you feeling clean and human. There’s no shame in making your life depression-friendly. It’s better to have a way to clean your face from your bed than to beat yourself up for not being able to get up and wash your face in the bathroom.

having severe depression, ngl sometimes at the end of the day i feel too unmotivated & exhausted so i’ll sleep in my leftover makeup. i try to do this as little as possible but it definitely makes a huge difference in my skin if i don’t do my nightly skincare routine or even if i don’t just wipe my makeup off with a wipe. like my skin will be fresh, clear, & glossy but the one night i don’t take off my makeup the next day my skin does a full 180 & is broken out, dehydrated, & irritated. I now try to keep a routine even with my depression to keep a daily nightly routine & i notice a big difference not only with my skin, but with my depression as well:)

I have depression too and after a full day of struggling through peopling and working during an episode, sometimes I’m too exhausted and too apathetic to do a full skin care routine or shower. I had a bad episode at the end of 2020 and ended up with a scalp issue from not washing my hair. Now I make a point to shower at least once a day and wash my face in the shower. It’s not a full skincare routine but it’s something and the shower at least helps me feel more comfortable.

I have still, not quite, however, been able to get back into the routine of makeup removal (IF, that is, I wear it - which I have, actually, begun to do again, sonce the depression is lessening so much...the cleansing routine, though, not so much, yet..). The showering, however, is something with which I am still struggling, which is something that anyone who has ever known me - even during my depression episodes, which I have had most of my life - would be shocked to discover, because this is something that has only really become a part of my depression (well, to the extent that it is now, at least) recently. What a shock, right?! That my depression has become so much more debilitating since I've come closer to, and have now reached, the age of 50! Eyeliner and underlining have to be cleansed meticulously, too, as they sit right on the lash roots. If microscopic bits are left choking the follicles, there will be permanent eyelash loss. After cleansing, soak a washcloth in very warm to hot water and press on your eyes and eyelash roots. This is the best way to make sure your eyes are thoroughly cleaned.

The experiment the reporter did with not removing her makeup for a month is so interesting and explains a lot. Prior to the pandemic I wore makeup at all times. Some nights I would remove it but not always that well. I had acne and large pores so I always felt I needed the makeup to hide those things. Lockdowns happened and I stopped wearing makeup and began just cleaning my face more, using vitamin c serum, eye cream and face cream. My acne cleared up. My hyperpigmentation began to fade. Overall my skin looked brighter. Since then I’ve had the confidence to go out without makeup because of how much stopping it helped. Sometimes if I am in the mood or want to look really nice, I will put it on but consistently not wearing it has helped my skin more than I would have ever guessed.

You know, we have never thought to call out brands for falsely stating products last 10,12,24,48 hours. If we sued them all they might actually test the products to see how long they last instead of just putting a random time on how long they’d last. Also, if you shouldn’t wear makeup that long they should not even advertise that you can wear their product for that long, since it’s promoting the customer to cause harm to themselves that they then need to wear more makeup for.

My exact thoughts as well. Would love more makeup/skincare/beauty type horror stories. lol And ikr!? When he showed us the photo of the embedded mascara, i physically cringed but thought to myself, HOW DID SHE NOT SEE THAT HERSELF! I mean, i cant think of a logical reason one would ever flip their eyelid up to look at the underside, other then to get an eyelash or something out of their eye....👀👀👀. But for 25 flippen years straight!? I just cant believe that someone who was just reapplying makeup layers, every day for 25 years, never once noticed the big, super noticeable, scrape-y, black head looking spots/bumps allll over the inside of her eyelid? Just like you said, HOWWWW did she not know. And put two and two together. Especially since it got worse over time ofc. I also assume she had that in the bottom lid too? (but if not, maybe her tears naturally kept the bottom more clear of debris/mascara bits?) I still have so many questions for her 😅. Im just so curious if/when she did see those yucky lookin spots, what she thought they were? Or why she didnt seek medical attention prior too. Or ya know, stop with her super unhygienic makeup routine 🤔But heres to hoping for more fascinating makeup horror stories and that she had a fast recovery and immediately stopped wearing eye makeup! lolol

I always work minimum 13 hours and frequently work around 20 hours per day sometimes working up to 40+ hours per shift (without napping or sleeping). So yes there are plenty of people who might really wear makeup for 24 hours straight and not sleep in it. I remember seeing so many mascara ads where the model had on fake lashes in the after image. Companies should definitely be held accountable for false advertising.

there's a subset of the japanese subculture Gyaru where the less well-off girls sleep in their makeup (which typically consisted back in the 2000s of very orangey tan foundation, white eye makeup, heavy mascara and false lashes, heavy blush, and white or pastel lips) to make use of it longer, and not use up the products as quickly. this vid reminded me of that lol

Almost the same for me! I started using Makeup at around the age of 13 because I developed acne and wanted to cover it up with Makeup. But that started a vicious cycle as I know now because back then I did not know how to take care of my skin properly just covered it up with loads of havy Makeup. I did this in my teen years, learned a lot about selfcare and selflove in my twenties and just recently, when 30 came closer I really started to take care of myself in all aspects: I eat healthy, almost no meat, try to drink 3 l a day (only water) and clean and moisturize my skin every morning and evening. I don't need expensive products. Just mild products with no perfume and a lot of hydration and sunscree. And I only use makeup for special occasion. My skin looks a lot better now- it is still not perfect (it will probably never be) but it also FEELS so much better!

I started a skin care routine that has lasted my whole life. I always get compliments on my skin. Now, in college, my friends and I regularly went out to clubs and stayed out until the sun came up. My skincare routine is like a soul food ritual... Especially in the PM. Once I've put the kiddos to bed and before I crawl into bed with my husband, I devote 20 minutes to myself... To wind down and enjoy the quiet me-time. All while reminiscing about my journey -- where I began, the progress I've made, and where I'm going. That said, there have been a time or two where, after a date-night or something, that I've accidentally fallen asleep before doing my ritual.... and in those scenarios, I wake up in the middle of the night in a panic, check the time, catapult out of bed, and rush to the bathroom, all while explaining to my husband that, no, I can't just "close [my] eyes and go back to sleep." It's like a sin, at this point. And I'm pretty sure I'd have nightmares thinking about all the bacteria-induced closed comedones I'd develop, and the makeup ingredients and oils seeping into my already enlarged pores. Yeah, no.

For me personally I feel like it's worth saying that sometimes it's hard to take makeup off at night depending on my mental health. For example with a history of depression, I find that various self-care tasks will fall through the cracks, and for me that is definitely taking make-up off at the end of a work day. It obviously varies and I don't do it every day, but once in a while I find that I just don't have the drive to do it, despite knowing I should, and it's very easy to feel even worse about yourself for that reason 😂

This ensured that our face would last through whatever shenanigans we might get up to for as long as we wanted to stay in drag. Sometimes this would be the next day and we’d always compliment each other on the immoveable perfection of our drag by exclaiming, “Girl, you’re party perfect!” We always got a big laugh outta that. I'm a disabled mum and still make sure I find those 5-10 minutes daily to remove my makeup and do my skincare. I tried using micellar water and a reusable cotton pad once to remove my makeup but it didn't remove it all and I only wear a small amount of make up. I guess it's better than nothing but definitely nowhere near as effective as a cleansing balm followed by a traditional cleanser.

Saaame, honestly it's even hard to nap with sunscreen on, the feeling of it on the face when you wake up is just so gross to me.

I must be blessed. Every time I sleep with my makeup on I wake up and it looks great exactly how it looked the night before but muted, saves time when desperation hits,

James, you got me to wear sunscreen and now I can't go without. I can't imagine not taking off my make-up at night. So crazy to never taking off your mascara! Some people maybe don't like the way they look without make-up?
