Glyn, I used to put a shovel of sawdust in the pens first. Good for absorption and easier to sweep out .I alway love to get a glimpse of Charlie. I bet he has a very shiny coat right now. Baaa Baaa I think you might be turning into a sheep. I love your attention to detail.

Feeding colostrum to cold lambs is counterproductive. If you can get dextrose and give 5% dextrose subcutaneous (10ml/kg) and then put the lamb in a hot box, then give colostrum once they are back to normal temperature, you'll save more lambs. I completely understand your description of the stiff lamb. I twice had to lamb in the middle of winter because the neighbor caught my ram pasture fence with their equipment. Had many lambs at -25C to -40C and never lost one; using a hot box, dextrose and lamb kick start.

Jesus Glynn, such a massive amount of lambs. You are a very caring farmer and it’s wonderful to see how much you look after your sheep and lambs. A bit of craic with your dad is always good and he is good to have around helping with the tiny ones. I hope the weather has turned for all of you and things will get easier stunning scenery. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

My husband thinks I’m crazy. I’m glad the weather has gotten better. What is the state of repairs to the damage or, have you even started it yet?

One thing I noticed lambing ewe Hoggs is if they lambed themselves they took the lambs well and bonded but a few that I pull don’t take to the lamb so I tend to let them lamb on their own if can now.

Why dont you ear tag as well when going out glyn? 6:57 when selling/taking off land you've got to tag by law dont you? Lambing you have extra help why not use that to ear tag save a job each time you sell. With your tapari system and flock watch etc it might be more productive to tag now and put onto the system at birth and you can keep tabs on who is the parent for further breeding
@sheepshepherd
@sheepshepherd 4 ай бұрын
no never tagging again at birth, caused alot of joint ill.

How's yer dad feeling about the milage now? Does he want to cut it now? Milage is a great idea, as you are making some winter feed for the sheep during the summer. Sometimes thee sheep don't all the grass and leave a lot to waste. Cutting the milage/grass will hopefully stop that. Got my quarter Irish fingers crossed things go well.

Your working hard boys. And girlls. I'm wondering if you are seeing many of these ewes with lack of milk? I've had ewes this year with lack of milk but an udder. I've had to top up the lambs I could to get them through. Then things improve. But I've had a couple of ewes with a full bag , didn't look like mastitis but no milk. I'm putting it down to weather, cold easterlies and heavy rain. That's lambnng for you. Hope you get a rest after this.
@vwvw4
@vwvw4 4 ай бұрын
That sounds like OPP, sometimes the only symptom is what we term hardbag....full udder little to no milk. Very infectious disease, ewes are culled. You can blood test to confirm.
