No category of watch is currently more idolised than the stainless-steel luxury sports watch - specifically those with a design that integrates case and bracelet in one continuous, coherent shape. Unlike the majority of design trends, which evolve over time, this concept sprang abruptly into being in 1972 with Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak, and was followed shortly by the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the Vacheron Constantin 222, in 1976 and 1977 respectively. This holy trinity of “sports-luxe” watches laid the foundations for the Cartier Santos, Piaget Polo S and many more, from the A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus to the Zenith Defy.
Here, we take a close look at the Vacheron Constantin Overseas - the successor to the 222 - and explore how it incorporates the maison’s historic Maltese cross logo, building a sophisticated design language for both case and bracelet around that one shape.

One of the most under-rated watches from the holy trinity, forget the oak, or the nautilius the overseas is Steels Sports Perfection .

@@crybabyteamo It has a instanious Date but no hacking. But you can back hack it. I own one and the non hacking is not really an issue on a daily driver.

I had the privilege of seeing one in person, put my rolex to shame. Its a feeling and emotion I get with this watch that iv never felt. Ill be getting the 37mm soon.

@@RICHFRVR nobody, who can afford it, actually cares. Even Patek nautilus doesn’t have hacking seconds and sells for 100k... it tells the time and it’s what matters. You don’t need EXACT time by the second 😂 keep your iPhone if that’s what you want. No better precision sang

@@franciscojosedominguez5227 Impossible, but only because it’s a French brand, not Swiss. Breguet historically was grouped with Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin in a select group known as the “four sisters.”

have you noticed an issue with the 4500 overseas when you change the time, i noticed if i pull out the crown to change the time sometimes it doesnt engage the hands and the crown just spins without changing the time at all

Im searching for years right now for a watch like this which is not oversized. I absolutely can not understand the trend with big watches. They look ridiculous on the wrist. Is there any small (below 37mm) watch with integrated quick change bracelet an automatic caliber and a date function with an ultra slim case on the market?

It’s sad that it’s overshadowed the other Gerald Genta watches of the era but at the same time it’s a little too on the nose with how much it references the Maltese cross. That would be like Rolex doing a five pointed crown bracelet with a matching bezel and rotor...

The only reason why no one wants vacheron, JLC and other brands is because there's no hype around them and no re-sell value compared to all hyped rolex SS, patek nautilus and AP. That's the reality sad but that is part of decision when purchasing luxury watches.

Rolex is not hyped. It is a brand of watch with recognition. It is like Porsche it makes a good product that holds value because people trust it. I could easily imagine my self going for a dive or climbing a mountain or in business with a Rolex. Until the brands can develop that sort of recognition and trust they will never be at Rolexes level.

@@bighands69 OMG Rolex is the number one hype watch and less than 0.1% will user their show off / speculation Rolex for diving, climbing or garden work because they fear that the beloved status symbol (because of hype and recognition) could get a scratch. This is the funny thing: Buying a Tool watch and handle it like a raw egg because of resell value. I always say "if you have to look for resale value it isn't your watch taste or you cannot really afford this watch or booth. Look for something else". I rock my Overseas and that's cool ;-).

I know everyone keeps saying you have to love this watch, but I just can't. At the end of the day, it is unoriginal and too aggressive. Sure that blue dial is beautiful. But beyond that, are we supposed to love it just because it's from VC? If this watch is made by a non-holy Trinity watch house, I'm not so sure people would be giving it the praise it's currently getting.

I have a 3rd gen and I can tell you it's design is absolutely original. In fact, that's one of the reasons why it isn't as popular as it should be - it doesn't look like an APRO or a Nautilus. If you've ever worn one in the flesh, and still think its design is unoriginal then this watch really isn't for you!

And lets be honest, i think the "Trinity" no longer really includes Vacheron. I think the "trinity" is now Patek, AP, and Rolex. These 3 are the benchmarks of the watchworld (mass produced, not indies), whether we like it or not.

Uhm how so? it’s a Stainless Steel blue dial watch on bracelet.....the nautilus and Royal oak were there before so...The strap changing mechanism is from Cartier. Where is the originality?

thelobbguy Cartier from 2018 and VC from 2016 .. both brands under Richmond Group
