Too true ! You notice how some of Jon’s low expectations were a come up, how Sam’s were a let down, from where they were before? And from some of that outside perspective only someone like Mr. Edward’s can in the way some of us yell out during watching these haha, it’s a dynamic we all could use how deep is that for a friggin Monday!?!? Keep up the great work guys, I hope the Silicon Valley is buzzing come the hopefully in person combo Apple event! Fun to get to be near than from San Jose if I’m not working we’re just getting started!!!!

@marcsequence I was def yellin at sam during this. He overhypes himself for the future, then when it shows up in the present, he overlooks the gift because he's still trying to solve the future. No shade, super smart people be like that sometimes. It can just cause some internal distress that only patience and learning to live incthe moment, for a moment, can resolve. I thought he had it figured out with that first vision pro livestream/vid, but sounds like he just needs some more time. Andru def brings a based perspective and levels out the show. He makes regular people arguments, but in a more articulate way that most of us would struggle to do. Wouldn't be mad to see him on the show more often. 3+ hrs went by quick.

Hey Sam, let me breakdown for you. The iPad is to Macbook what the WACOM Cintiq is to the PC. To say a WACOM product is useless is missing the point. When I didn't own a Macbook, I used the iPad Pro for everything at home, including my finance. Then I bought the Macbook and now I just use it for Procreate. So the answer is: if you own a Macbook you only need an iPad if you are an artist or you want to watch KZfaq on the couch. If you don't own a Macbook, then the iPad Pro is your daily driver.

Sam, when you say that getting a wrong fit using the default measuring tool is a big issue and that is a big flaw of AVP, and you also mentioning that Apple Watch came out perfect. I just want to share that, do you remember when the solo loop wrist band first came out, there was this ruler thing that you print out and use it to measure the size of your wrist? Do you remember how off that tool was? I got my Watch and the band was super loose, I had to go into the store and tried multiple sizes before buying another band that actually fit my wrist. But I never complained about it, because I love how the solo loop band feels and I want it to work for me, so I have no problem going into the store to find my size.

Jon is right. I’m still rocking iPad Pro 2018, would welcome a worthy refresh (i.e. not colors and bezels). What problem does an ‘island’ or ‘thinness’ solve for users..

My hot take is that the iPad has replaced a laptop for me. I refinanced my house on an iPad. I’ve done my taxes on the iPad. Just recently I’ve built a gaming pc and realized I did not have a home computer in use in over 7 years since I’ve had iPads. Now the iPad mini with cellular is my go to and it’s almost replaced my phone for everything but actual calls. So I’d say that for people without the extra income an iPad would be the better choice.

Usually disagree with Sam, but this time I think he is on point. You can't review something based on future promises or anything but how it arrives. If Apple is too incompetent to send the right light seals and it hurts, that's how you write it up. It's not up to the customer to pick up after a bad UX, especially when the seller is scaled like Apple.

I use accessories with my iPad accept screen protector and case. But I also watch tv on my iPad. I hate normal tvs, the iPad feels way more immersive for tv shows then a regular tv does because with normal tvs there so much space between you and the tv so I just get distracted easily.

I thought Sam was onto something until that statement about people having Windows PC's instead of a Mac. No, so many people now don't have a PC at all. I think it's crazy but the reality is I know so many people who don't have a PC and they only have a phone or a phone and tablet. In writing this comment I realised yes people are actually buying iPads because they are simpler. They probably don't even realise at the point of purchase how limiting they are but they are just simpler to use and do most things the average person needs. I keep getting reminded how unpopular PC's have become whenever I tell someone to do something on their PC and they tell me they don't have a PC and want to know how to do that on their phone.

As a follow up to further comments. We don't actually need phones. In fact some security experts are now advising to not have a sim in your phone at all any more and to hotspot it and use services that provide voice calls and messaging. The reality is we could use a small tablet for that and when the iPad mini came out people were trying to work out if they could use it as a big phone.

I feel for Sam. Before I got my AVP fit properly at the store I was super sad it hurt. Now it is way better and I look forward to third party straps. Andrew is a trooper for hanging through the “loud” sections. He totally gets it and has a great outlook on his approach to reviewing products. 👍🏽

Awesome Video-Actually loved both sides of this, I understand both Sam and Jon/Andru’s side on the Vision Pro,it definitely seems like the future is here but the flaws also are valid in that  didn’t give what they promised.-Still I wonder what the future of this will be!

Charging the phone between 40 to 80% or something is actually a lot better for the battery. I have limited charge to 80% though.

Almost 4 hours! I watched it all. I had so many things I wanted to tell Sam but forgot to take notes. Last week I took the demo and OMG where do I get $4K? Try the god damn $10 strap! Guys, I usually don’t have time to listen to this super long form, but I was up till 230AM listing to the Vision Pro segment and the debate between Sam and Jon and Andrew. This was very informative, and also incredibly entertaining/ hilarious. I am totally on the Andrew and Jon camp, but I respect Sam’s view. Hope you guys have more , and very curious how Sam feels after readjusting his headset size.

I completely agreed with Sam on VR and Zuck. VR takes the humanity away in a way tech hasnt done yet. Tech has gotten close but not like in VR. Video games are not comparable to VR. Video games can be a social event and even when you are playing online you still have all your senses completely available to the real world at all times. (That is why you need VR to immerse you more into the game). Zuck is honestly dumb and evil. Most of his products only cause mental illnesses and didnt do anything positively significant to the progression of humanity. Only severely damaged most of the population.

@Sam, Linus did this test. He gave his staff money and told them they could order whatever they wanted, but they had to only use those items. About half ordered a computer and a phone. The other half ordered a phone and a tablet. Tablets have begun replacing computers. You are wrong. Not everyone will pick a computer. I gave up my Macbook Pro in 2019 and have only used my iPads since. I do not miss my laptop at all.

You guys are the fucking best. Stoked when a new video pops up. The iPad is my single most favorite piece of tech ever. 12.9 1T M1. I use it for every occasion I can. It’s my go to. With iPad, where there’s a will there’s always a way. There’s very few instances where I’ll grab my Macbook because the iPad won’t do it. The trick is you just don’t do it the way Mac does it. You have to do it the way iPad OS does it. Making it more like a Mac would kill the experience. It’d be like if Vision OS were more like a Mac. That’d suck. iPad OS is great. Once they fixed stage manager to be more like “Desktops” it’s been awesome. When I get home I throw my phone on the counter and it’s all iPad. Just a better experience for all the same stuff. And when I leave the house, I grab my phone which becomes a shrunken down iPad that fits in my pocket. All my notes, reminders, pics etc. are all synced with the iPad and I’m all set. The only thing that’s taking the space of what my iPad does currently is the Vision Pro. Loving it.

What iPad has always needed is proximity or IR sensors under the screen so that it can ‘see’ your fingers hovering above the surface of the screen. You could have a MacOS experience with that kind of tech.

Jon talking about the planetarium and textbooks makes me realize that the Vision Pro will allow me to be something I always wanted to be when I was a kid - one of Miss Frizzle’s students

just in regards to the sizing thing. sure remote sizing introduces risk of error but the big screen beyond requires a face ID scan and they seem to have figured out how to use the data to make a correct fit. Also I agree with Sam in regards to how all these minor things including the erroneous sizing are part of the product experience as a whole so you can't disregard that experience when looking at the device itself since it's unavoidable.

I’ve been waiting for the MacBook to get a touchscreen for years. When I use my MacBook about 50% of the time, I try and touch the screen because I expect it and use a touchscreen for work. It is a much more fun way to interact with the screen.

Just like Mac’s can use iPad apps, I want there to be a way to run Mac apps on the tablet (and subsequently the avp) in an emulation window. Even if it’s limited to a single instance. Specially since certain work/school apps require a pc. Double the battery life and add Mac apps and I’ll trade in my beloved M1 MacBook Air.

I’m convinced Sam is trolling. He’s complaining about the comfort and people are giving him a reasonable solution and for 45 minutes he refuses to even consider it. The whole glare thing, they tell him to choose a less dark environment and he whines. It seems like he is either putting on an act or he truly wanted this to be a perfect product out of the gate. I was on the fence about getting one and I finally pulled the trigger and I can say it is the best way to consume content by yourself. It won’t replace family movie night but if you’re laying in bed watching KZfaq there is no better way to do it

I think your assessment is correct. Sure, it’s only human to be upset by ANY unfulfilled expectations in life. But, he actually admitted that he’s “hamming it up” for the broadcast. Once he realized that he was literally burning bridges, he tried to walk some of his Apple-hate comments back towards the end. I see now why Brian Tong called him out on his inauthenticity 🧐 Besides, didn’t he say that he was returning his AVP in a previous broadcast?

Sam is speaking the truth, AVP has major flaws that most people don’t want to gloss over. Nely Patel really did have it right, “it’s magic, until it isn’t.” The eye tracking works well with large objects that have space between them like the app icons. But when you are in Safari trying to select small elements that are close together it falls apart. It doesn’t matter how well it fits, it is heavy and getting a different size light seal won’t change that. There is far too much friction with other Apple devices. Why can’t I unlock my iPhone with Optic ID? Why can’t I mirror my iPhone display? Why can’t I copy text from my iPhone, Mac or iPad to AVP? There is a point of diminishing returns with multiple monitors or virtual monitors and windows. It’s cool to see Apple take a chance with a new product category, but to say that the AVP hardware we have now doesn’t matter is naive at best. Some of the issues can be fixed with software, but many (like the glare) can’t. Though there is potential for this product to be great, when do we ever review a product based on its potential to be great? I really appreciate Sam focusing on what we have today and being honest about his dissatisfaction with the current hardware.

I get, what Sam is saying. Look. He's obviously frustrated and disappointed and he's having trouble articulating his feelings on the matter. I think everyone just needs to get off his case, and give him a chance to explain what he means, without jumping down the kids throat, right after he finishes a sentence.

I recently heard Sam is a robot that has no emotions and doesn’t watch movies at all. I take that back he’s programmed to have emotions for Apple products only.
