Kingpin from Daredevil season one, is a great example of how you do a "city infiltrate by secret terrorists" storyline. Ricardo Diaz felt like a worse version of him. However, I don't see how the Diaz twist was predictable. The writers kept the audience guessing without making it obvious. With better pacing and trimming the fat though, his reveal easily could have been the mid season finale, instead of waiting until episode 13.
@Xehanort103 жыл бұрын
Fisk was a good gangster villain where there was more to him than just "gangster." But Diaz was a generic gangster character who the writers tried to make seem scarier and more dangerous than he actually was with stupid shit like Black Siren saying she was more frightened of Diaz than Zoom. When a serial killer with superspeed is more of a threat than a guy who wants to take over a whole city just because a guy bullied him when they were kids. The bit when he killed his former bully was forced "He's done something really evil. Be scared of him now please."

There actually is an explanation for that. The Writers were pretty much outspoken that they hated Laurel. And I mean that quite literally. They openly stated that she would NEVER get a canary cry if they have any say in the matter. To the point where the flash writers had to put it in during a crossover. There are also rumors that the sole reason they brought back Sara was to kill off Laurel. And Guggenheim at one point basically fanned the flames by hinting at him not wanting the Black Canary / GA relationship but preferring the OC Felicity one. And of course they kept telling everybody, even after she became a heroine, that black canary would not be a focus. They hated her.

@jonasstark71483 жыл бұрын
I‘m always annoyed when people use comic accuracy as a measure of quality. This is a different medium with different creative voices, which can’t just do the same things. These shows can’t just copy the comics and they shouldn’t. And as a result the characters will be different, act different and look different. They should be rated as characters on their own and not just as the counterparts of comic book characters. These characters are loose adaptations and that’s exactly what they’re supposed to be.
@zemox25343 жыл бұрын
Well I am sorry but there is a small part of me that loves the source material and it be nice if CW actually showed some fucking respect to the comics and be a little more faithful to them. And even if I did judge the show as its own thing, I think it sucks. Most of the Arrow shows started well but they have slowly gone downhill. The flash especially is just unbearable ever since S2 and Legends is a fucking joke. As comic book shows they are lacklustre and as their own shows, they are still lacklustre. If you like them that is fine but I just do not give a shit. Sorry for the rant but I needed to get that off my chest.
@truepotential2063 жыл бұрын
@@jonasstark7148 @Zemo X2 If they want to do a series based off a beloved comic the least they can do is not shit over the core material. I am not advocating they follow strict comic book accuracy but continuously spitting all over the material is nonsense and shall not be rewarded with blind following. If they wanted to do whatever they please then they should have just created a rip and not use the names or story of The green arrow. Create their own show. The very reason 70-80% people started watching the show and how it grew is thanks to the title and familiarity of the name so they do owe comic gans something. Was there a writer's strike? I think, a while back, I heard that the later seasons had a different staff from the early seasons and they didn't want to touch on the stuff from the early seasons, like the Flash writers apparently totally dropping the whole "FLASH DISAPPEARS IN 2021" article from the future thing. Somewhere along the way, maybe season 4 of Arrow and 2 of Flash or maybe even during season 3 of Arrow it started, the stories got taken over by a much lower quality writing staff that just tried to play into a status quo and used tropes to manage their stories and progression. Which is why every time a character completes their main development arc they kill them off (and yet try to somehow still give a happy ending in following arcs, like Laurel 2 coming to Earth 1 and bonding with the Earth 1 Officer Lance, Oliver's saving his mom in the universe he got dropped off in thing. Heck, Roy's death was faked and then they just patted him on the back and sent him off). They had a great thing going, but maybe they just got stretched too thin when it expanded to multiple shows or something like that, hard to say

Granted, I still haven't seen Season 10 yet so I gotta catch up on it. And while I am aware of how the spin off shows like Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond carry important information that could play into the final season, maybe even go as far as having all of the characters from all three shows come together in one big crossover season, I just don't have any interest or patience in watching them. Maybe I'll see the Rick Grimes movie if it ever gets made, because come on. It's Rick Grimes. Lastly, I'm also aware how it ended in the comics, but I'm hoping the show ends differently with satisfaction whereas in the comics it just stops and immediately jumps forward in time with an epilogue.

The 23 episode season format panned out well enough for the first two seasons but after that the Arrow writers should've simply taken a page out of Agent of Shield's playbook, going for the pod structure spanning anywhere from 8-12 episodes per villain/problem/... Also, the island exploding should've taken out several of Ollie's allies, such as Wild Dog, Lance, Thea and even Felicity to shake up the status quo and streamline the bloated roster. Mr. Terrific provides competent tech support and Ollie might've gotten closer to Black Canary.

Currently binging the Arrowverse for the first time and just finished Arrow, my ultimate takeaway: anyone can change. This show portrayed countless stories of redemption: Slade, Malcolm, Sara, Anatoly, Earth-2 Laurel, Dinah, Sebastian Blood, Moira, Roy, Nyssa, Maseo, Oliver, and so many more I’m probably forgetting. But, it also showed the other side of the coin, that anyone can also fall to darkness: Ivo, Cayden James, Andy, John Diggle Jr., Ra’s, and Waller. Ultimately, the show’s main message is that we each have a choice in our lives to rise to the light, or fall to the darkness. This is also present in other shows in the Arrowverse (mainly Flash and Supergirl), but Arrow is where it is most relevant. I will always miss Arrow and the journey that it took me on with Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen.

The writing of CW shows might be here and there but one thing I'll say is that one thing they always seem to nail is casting, ALWAYS. Whether it's Barry, Cisco and Caitlin or Oliver, Diggle and Felicity the chemistry between these characters always felt so real and never forced. CW also always manages to develop a great emotional attachment between us and the characters you always care about the main characters no matter how flawed they are. The characters are actually real. The character development sometimes moved in circles and did hurt their shows a little but it was still handled well. All in all, this show left an impact on me and I'm sure it did on countless others as well.

I honestly think that people should give the majority of Arrow a lot more credit. Sure it’s not a perfect or the best written tv show I or many others have ever watched, but it’s a lot more than a “poorly acted and lowly budgeted soap opera.” Some of the actors have real heart in their roles. And when it comes to Arrow as it’s own show, it’s stories are so good that they’ve created some of the newer characters in present day DC comic issues. Sure Felicity could be better in some seasons, and Curtis can be annoying as all hell. But the show is able to communicate some of the better (if lesser known sometimes) characters and their arcs in a well done show. Hell I prefer Oliver in the show to most of the iterations in the comics. In the comics he’s far too close to another Flash much of the time, but in the show he has an added layer of nuance that I feel is complimented very well through some of the more important characters. From John’s lack of emotional control in certain situations, to Felicity’s abundance of emotion in even the mundane, to the Lance family’s views on justice, the show makes for a very good story that I feel stands up to the comics of the same characters (those that are in the comics) Flash and the others can be hit or miss to the point where I haven’t finished any of the others entirely, but Arrow is just a good show. Not the best, but a good one nonetheless
@Chronoflation3 жыл бұрын
Stephen's performance really made the character. I wish the show didn't get hampered by being stuck in with the other Arrowverse shows, I feel like they did more harm to Arrow than good, but I especially enjoy the early seasons of Arrow, before all of the "every enemy is a martial arts expert that can also shoot a bow and arrow" fatigue hit in. Also before the super powers and melodrama became too prominent. But, overall, a pretty good show. The DCAU Green Arrow is also a really great version of the character. Pretty different, but very well written and performed

I completely agree with this take on the show. It reached a point where the storytelling was incredibly predictable. Blackstar shows up as a new mysterious character except she’s a tiny blonde like felicity, shes participating in an underground fight club like Oliver, her first scene is literally a transition from Oliver & Felicity having sex to William seeing Mia for the first time and look at that, Oliver, William & Mia all like to drink scotch. Oh my gosh! Who could she possibly be?🙃 This show definitely wasn’t known for being subtle. That said, even with its ups and many, many downs they still managed to make me care about the main characters. I wanted to see how the story played out for Dig, Oliver, Felicity, Quinten, etc and I’m glad I did. For all its flaws Arrow introduced countless characters, launched numerous shows and created an entire universe which is incredibly admirable. Most shows dont make it 100 episodes much less 170. And strangely this silly show about a guy with a bow and arrows inspired a rampant online community, spawned some real and lasting friendships and raised hundreds of thousands for charity.

From S6-8, it was a just a constant mix of sub-par villains and the constant need to rake Oliver over the coals. The rest of the characters, good and bad, could do as they pleased and Oliver is the only one punished or judged by himself or others. CW hero shows have really lost steam the last few years. I came to resent every character for their words, actions, and lack of admitting their mistakes, and that included Diggle. A character I never thought I'd dislike. They were never forced to learn a lesson for their actions either. S6 was the end for me.
