I’m a huge Marlins fan and I actually met Jose before he passed and he was the nicest player I have ever met. I asked him when he was in the dugout after the game for a signature and he told me “outside”. Being a Marlins fan I knew where the team exited the stadium so I went there and waited and Jose saw me and came right over to me and then went through the rest of the people there. I woke up and saw a notification on my phone he passed and was waiting to wake up from that nightmare and it never happened. I miss you Jose. RIP.

I still remember his rookie season in 2013, and after watching him for only a few games I told my dad "This José Fernandez guy is gonna be special. Cy Young, MVP, All Star, all of that is in his future." He told me the whole "it's only been a few games calm down" thing, but I knew that he would be one of the greatest young pitchers the league has ever seen. I always thought that José was the most fun player to watch, and I'll never forget that I saw an SportsCenter segment asking if he was the most fun player to watch, and I was watching it just chanting "Yes! Yes! Yes!" Into my TV. José Fernandez is a huge part of why I wanted to become a pitcher, he just had this exuberance about him that made it seem so fun and easy. He made striking out guys like Dustin Pedroia a walk in the park, and he had so much fun while doing it. He just played the game the way that it was meant to be played, and that's why Fernandez is such an inspiration to me. It didn't seem like a job to him, didn't seem like he was playing for a contract. He played to have fun, and he had fun throughout his entire career. Still my favorite ball player ever RIP José Fernandez

He was one hell of a pitcher. As a Cubs fan I remember every time the Cubs versed him I knew we had no chance. Guy was a beast, and he was also a great guy. It was crazy, the day I got the text he died, I was in shock. I remember the Cubs versed him a couple weeks before and he was dominant. I know now he's striking out Babe Ruth in heaven, and with Yordano Ventura heaven has a stacked rotation. 🙏🏻

I am as diehard a nationals fan as anyone in dc and he was still my favorite player. I cried like I lost a family member when I got the news. He was everything that was good about humanity and baseball. I wish he got a chance to learn from his mistake. I’m still not over it.

I cried watching this, he was such an amazing person and had so much life and youth in him. It’s depressing to think that he’s really gone and no longer here with us pitching his amazing sliders and 98-100 mph pitches. Rip❤️

A memory I will remember him for is a pinch hit he had off the Atlanta Braves in the 12th to drive in two runs to win the game, since he lost me about 10k in winnings on a parlay. Despite this I couldn't respect a player more that loved the game as much as he did, and was as good at it as he was.
