This is my The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die Netflix Movie Review. Alexander Dreymon reprises his lead role as the great warrior Uhtred of Bebbanburg, who must ride once more across a fractured kingdom with several of the series' much-loved returning characters, as they battle alongside, and against, new allies and enemies. Following the death of King Edward, a battle for the crown ensues, as rival heirs and invaders compete for power. And when an alliance comes seeking Uhtred's help in their plans, Uhtred faces a choice between those he cares for most, and the dream of forming a united England.
In the year 872, many of the separate kingdoms of what is now England have fallen to the invading Danes, leaving the great kingdom of Wessex standing alone and defiant under the command of King Alfred. Against this turbulent backdrop lives Uhtred. Born to a Saxon nobleman, he is captured by the Danes and raised as one of their own. Forced to choose between his birth country and the people of his upbringing, his loyalties are ever tested. What is he? Saxon or Dane? On a quest to reclaim his birthright, Uhtred must tread a dangerous path between both sides to play his part in the birth of a new nation and--ultimately--recapture his ancestral lands.

The BEST season was Alfred’s last. The movie left me feeling pretty neutral. I would’ve loved to see more feel good moments between Uhtred and other core characters. Something for us who’s been around for all seasons. But that might be too much to ask for in one movie instead of another season.

I just wanted to see Young Ragnar appearing in Valhalla at the end, drinking ale and smiling at Uhtred, as Uhtred happily walks into the Great Hall.

The ending apparently is how the books end which is what they were going for which is also why some characters aren't in, but I do agree with you

I was looking for him too. But then, wasn't one of the horrors of his death being that he was killed in his sleep, without a weapon in hand (or from battle wounds), and therefore was not going to enter Valhalla?

I was excited that they decided to end the series with a movie, I thought it could be really interesting… sadly I think they tried to cover too much and introduce new characters that we just weren’t invested in like the other characters! It fell slightly short for me but I’m sad I won’t get to see the boys going on an medieval adventure again 😢

I think with these new characters we wouldn't have been that much invested in because after this they weren't really of any interest, their story was sorta done, they either get killed off or go away. I do agree that they tried to put in too much, I wish it was longer or there could've been another series, but it was incredible nonetheless.

I was pretty let down by this. Way too rushed for me to care about anything or anyone but Utred. Definitely should have been a season although I would have been fine if it just ended after season 5 tbh

I literally just finished it and I got to say I agree it felt rushed. This should have been a season. I really loved the final scene though it was an absolute perfect way to end the story.

It’s kinda bittersweet that he will be in Valhalla with all of his dane family, but the other people mostly osferth, beocca and athelflaed won’t be cause they’re christian so he’ll never see them again.

I'd seen all 5 seasons (even read a few of the books) and I still needed a refresher to before diving into the movie. Highly recommend watching the 15 minute recap on YT. Also helps if you're familiar with history, like the Battle of Brunanburh. Just so you know who all the kings and sides are. Given that all the others (other than Constantin) are new in this.

I loved the series. Hated this movie. Nothing in the storyline made sense. Uhtred is too honorable to bend the knee to Edward, but it’s just fine to bend the knee to the murderous tyrant (180 character flip) Aethelstan? So dumb.

I think he hasn't died and there's room for more. If he died he would walk in Valhalla,but he didn't. In the books he dies in his 80s without any battle. I'm very sad and disappointed with the movie, he and fans deserved better.

7/10 decent but somewhat disappointing given the show (imo) is a 9/10 It felt rushed but tbf they did a good job of fitting it into 1h40m. My biggest disappointment was missing characters not even getting a mention like Uhtreds daughter Stiorra, it was as if she didn't exist... Could've at least mentioned her one time like they did with his son Oswald. Didn't like that they turned Aethelstan into a rainbow boy either. Overall, it was worth the watch but it could've been so much better as a content rich season 6 or longer >2h30m film.

Sad to see it go but happy it didn't over stay it's welcome. They told their story and moved on. To many shows these days trying to milk it for all it's worth until it grows stale. The Walking Dead comes to mind. They could have easily condensed that show to 7 or 8 seasons. Both Negans" and the Whisperers' could easily have been one season each. Instead they chose to drag it out with a bunch of vapid content until their viewership went in to free fall. And now they have spin off after spin off coming out. It's time to let it go. Tell your story and move on.

Movie while good would have been far better as a whole season. Lot of things felt so rushed, too many villains, Villains motivations could have been fleshed out more, Aethelstan as king wasn’t done that great he was almost the ‘bad guy’ for whole thing but gets too quick of a redemption, storylines needed to be fleshed out more and a ton of characters were missing like where was Stiorra, Aelswith, Hild, Young Uhtred?, etc, Uhtred ending was great though and the Battle of Burnanburh was amazing.

Hild was a favourite - no one matched the great characters in the series - we got to see a few briefly in Valhalla at the end.

The other characters weren't important at this point. They were focusing on the actual storyline from the books which is basically Uhtred and Aethelstan, and how England would come to be formed. The villains weren't really important to stick around, they just wanted to get rid of Aethelstan and take land, after what happened their story was done. I did miss the other characters I won't lie, and I wish we saw Young Ragnar in Valhalla but it was still a brilliant and satisfying ending.

I wanted more. Loved the show and watched it twice the first day. Then, started the series all over again. I loved the story since reading the books when first published. Still want more 😂

Sad to say this, but the movie was very disapointing for me. Everything felt so rushed. Missed the character building and a good storyline. Which is hard to do in such a short movie like this if you compare it to the series but still. They should've made another season instead of the movie.

I've been looking for reviews. So enjoyed the movie! I believe Uhtred lived and helped guide the new King of England, which is why he was so good. Aflan's daughter died and she was supposed to inherit his kingdom. He said so in the beginning when she was reporting on Edward's illness. So she's the 6th 'king' to die on the battlefield. Edward plus the heirs of all the kings who rose up against Athelstan are the 7 kings who died. Uhtred was never a king and lived to a ripe old age :) *that's my ending* LOL Love this series! They got everything right start to finish & this movie was icing on the cake. I hope the Peaky Blinders movie is just as good because that is another series that I loved beginning to end.

I really loved the film. I know that people wanted certain characters to come back but you've got to understand that they aren't part of this story. They followed it straight from the books, and with only a limited amount of time they just wanted to delve into Uhtred and Aethelstan and how England came to be about. The villains didn't need to be fleshed out, we knew their intentions to kill Aethelstan, take land, whatever and then after that their story was done. It was a lot to cram into a film, it could've been longer or just another season, but I still thought that it was really well done especially for how it ends with Uhtred. Did want to see Young Ragnar in Valhalla, but I suppose there was a reason for that, maybe they weren't available or something, otherwise I'm sure they'd love to put him in, it has been yrs since the actor was in TLK. I'd give it a solid 9.5/10

I loved the movie. I think some things could have been done better though. I feel like they could have used a half hour more atleast. Could have ended exactly the way it did. But I feel like it needed just a little more. Could have been a 4Part ending like you said. Either way an 8/10 for me 🙂 Destiny Is All ⚔️❤

This was disappointing unfortunately. The series ended a lot more satisfactory. And this would have done well in a mini series rather than a film which just felt rushed. However it did have a nice ending.

Sad that it's done. Loved the series but the movie was an 8/10 for me. I grew tired of his loyalty even as he gets *ucked over and over. I personally wanted uhtred to go a little savage. I thought the ending was dumb. Always pledging loyalty to another except self. Dumb.......

Loved the show but honestly I kind of wish they had just left it at that instead of making this movie. Season 5 ended on such a beautiful note with the story and Uhtred coming full circle back to his land, meeting the son he thought dead and having, finally, his birthright. Without a longer runtime this movie felt incredibly rushed. No emotional gut punch like when Halig died or others because it just moves on so fast. Athelstan's characterization seemed like a complete 180 from the character we knew in the show which wasn't given any time to really seem plausible. Maybe if his grief over the King's death and anxiety toward whether to be king now himself or let his brother ascend was given some screentime it might of seemed more understandable that he gets manipulated so easily. As is it just felt like a character assassination. Also a strange choice to have Finn do the narrating at beginning and end, I thought, given it was always Uhtred before and the books are all written from the perspective of old Uhtred recounting events from his youth.

I've rewatched the series 4X that's how much I love it. The movie? Sucks. It's disjointed, fast paced, clumsy. I felt no emotion. They should of stuck more to the books. They demolish Athelstan's character makes no sense just to make him gay? He was known in history as well as books to be the first true king that united all the kingdoms. The way he is portrayed as tyrant there is no way he would of been that king. Finan is a loved character although we do not see his wife on screen often because of the love of him you would feel for him. He grieved for 2 seconds.

i literally wish i did not watch the movie. The ending of season 5 made me cry and i somehow felt satisfied with everything. if i had known that the movie was only made because Netflix refused to make a sixth season, and that the cast had to beg for them to just consider making the movie at all, i would’ve just settled with the season 5 as the ending. I somewhat feel that SKMD kind of stained my love for the orginal series, though i hope that will faint will time

I don't think it should have been a full season, simply because the ending of season 5 is a great conclusion. The Show ends well, in my Opinion the movie wasn't even necessary. So when you add an additional Story like that, it either needs to be a Movie or a seperate Mini Series. Thats the only way that you can make sure that the main ending, stays untouched.

Always liked the series but why make Æthelstan gay and end with Valhalla. Why not heaven seeing Alfred, Beocca and Aethelfled. Sad ending.

An overlong mistake. Too much talking, none of the great characters we've had throughout the series (watched twice). Uhtred would have been 80 at this time - completely ignored. At least some of the characters were waiting there for him in Valhalla at the end. This appears to be one of the few review sites with a fine balance of considered criticism instead of instant euphoria.

"Certain things"??? the entire movie was rushed. It was a good story and a good ending for the show... But it really should have another season.

Seven Kings Must Die is a good movie, but the last season of The Last Kingdom wrapped up all the story lines.

Watching 7 Kings without of watching the series is the same as watching Avengers Endgame with no idea about the previous 20 movies' plotlines

That's why i watched the entire series then the movie. Took me like 3-4 weeks or so but I loved it. Great series

one of the relatively few positieve reviews. fan of the show. been hearing a lot critisme about the movie. not sure its worth watching if its going to leave a bitter aftertaste in my mouth

I think the series was the very best on television. I probably watched it over 10x. This was terrible. What a let down.

I've been a huge fan of the show and I loved the movie. I don't know why people are hating on the movie so much. It was a little rushed, but I think overall it was a very fitting end to the series. I think it is definitely worth watching.

I found it very boring, unrealistic, poor storyline, and the religious overtones were just too much. I also felt like it was a bit rushed in the making and lacking some of the depth of the previous series. I think people like it just because it's the Last Kingdom and are a bit blind to the poor development of the story. For instance it was just too ridiculous that Uhtred would allow his sword to be so easily stolen after years killing hundreds of thugs almost with his bare hands in the series. It was just silly. Very disappointing over all.

I actually have to go back and watch it a few times to digest everything, I didn't follow who the new characters were I'm more about character development than the action sequences, I'm a little let down, this is the greatest series ever even surpasses GOT! I'm going to go watch the whole series again for the fifth time in about 4 months, I was a little let down by the movie and sad I do believe Uhtred did die, very sad no more TLK

Huge disappointment. Better that they would have done nothing.Looks like they said we have to limit it to an hour and a half for the short commercial flights. Huge waste of talents like Alexander Dreymond, Mark Rowley and Sihtric and many others.The battle scene is good. My wife and I will watch The Last Kingdom for the fifth time to forget this "movie" and remember the absolute greatness of The Last Kingdom,which by the way should have won a ton of awards.

15 minutes in and the two male characters who are presented as making every life decision based upon biblical texts, start making out.. It seems that once again, the directors couldn’t resist injecting their logically inconsistent, religion bashing, homoerotic fantasies into what otherwise could be a good movie.. But I suppose that’s Netflix in a nutshell isn’t it?

loved the series .was so excited to watch the movie, but the gay scene is where i've stopped. not watching that crap. its unnatural and not the norm. why push a unnatural agenda? I' not even watching further as this is a real "put-off" now they've spoiled everything for me.
