You have to understand good storytelling. It DOES add something, but you are going to have to wait until the last episode to understand it. Good characters have to have reasons for what they do and what they feel and every single episode of this season has purpose and adds to the reason for these character's psychologies, which is what this show is really all about. Every episode adds to how and why these two characters are bonding as deeply as they do, which makes the ending only that much more powerful.

We completely agree that it does add to and solidify the character that we have grown to love on screen. We just felt like we already understood Ellie and would have preferred to see more in the present than the past. That being said, all your points are correct!
