Last week I picked up a MSI MEG 342C, really happy with the monitor, and your simple tweaks made the monitor even better :) I have allways been holding back when it comes to screen size, so for me 27" have been the sweet spot, but after upgrading to 34" and been using that for my simrig, I also wanted 34" for daily driver also. And the biggest pluss was that my retail store had a great offer on them so I paid 1050$. In my country the MEG 342C goes for 1500$. I have for a long time pushed MSI for answers about msi meg 271q mini led they launched at CES 2022. No info on when that monitor will hit the market.

Thanks for the informative video. You should ask LG why they don't take more seriously what most people are asking: a well executed GLOSSY coating. I mean one that's better than Samsung option with raised blacks. LG will lose LOT of OLEDs aficionados this year just due their reluctance to offer a glossy option. The Dual-Hz Oled + Glossy would have been the KILLER monitor for 2024, what a pity...

The recent emphasis on colour volume hasn't done them any favours. Samsung's TVs have matched LG's luminance increases up to 3000nit peak, if they'd brought any of that to monitors I think it would be a trouncing.
@Sean-fj9pn
@Sean-fj9pn 4 ай бұрын
Making noise about it gets attention too. Corporations are very aware of the mood of the market and what consumers think online. I buy LG TVs (ironically the best glossy coating on any mass market display), but I cannot ever consider an LG OLED monitor, maybe it sounds like hyperbole but I think their matte coating is so bad it makes the screen unusable to me, I wouldn't dream of spending money on one for that reason alone. Awful.

@PD-ws4td
@PD-ws4td 4 ай бұрын
Exactly this. I've been wondering whether LG or ASUS could still switch to a glossy finish instead of matte on their dual-hz models. Usually, those who seek OLED displays typically prioritize the visual experience, so their decision to apply a matte coating seems incredibly confusing and counterintuitive to me. Also, OLED screens still struggle with brightness levels in well-lit environments, making the matte coating pretty much useless.

Awesome update. Keep it regular on Quarter basis, please. Also add the separate thread for IPS with dimming zones, dynamic refresh rates, etc. Also speedup somehow the standard RGB oled panels development in LG or Samsung to get ideal 27 4K 240/360hz (over dp2.1 or hdmi 48Gb) monitor without ABL, Shimming or other strange OLED surprises for the normal productivity work. Consider the IPS panel devs with full pixel-to-pixel backlight or double OLED layers as the next step to the ideal monitor. Talk with LG and Samsung and make some posts that you are frustrated that they don't use this opportunities. Also remind them that Color Gamut not updated too long and BT.2020 100% volume coverage still waiting for them.

27" 1440p 480hz is better even for competitive. It is too difficult to see targets at long ranges without 1440p and the monitor size doesn't matter as long as you move the monitor far enough away that it is functionally a 24" monitor in your field of view.

Currently the LG OLED panels seems more tempting for me, mostly because of the sub-pixel structure. It would be nice if the Samsung QD-OLED panels could further refine the sub-pixel structure as well in upcoming generations, making them a bit more "traditional" (getting rid of that triangle shape for text clarity). Pure RGB OLED panels from LG looks promising as well, but I still hope for major improvements when it comes to brightness on OLED panels, as well as a 3 year burn-in warranty maybe becomes a minimum for OLED panels in general. Currently I look at the OLED technology of more a transitional technology before MicroLED and/or QDEL appears at consumer prices & sizes. MicroLED and QDEL could be the OLED & LCD killers, as long as the current OLED & LCD technologies doesn't gets major improvements that can make them compete with those upcoming technologies. For OLED, the brightness has to get way higher, as well as the lifetime for the organic materials in the sub-pixels improves in a such way that that getting any kind of burn-in, even with office/desktop/static content use, would seem practical impossible. For LCD, I suppose you would have to give each pixel its own backlight (if that happens, doesn't that mean that the MicroLED technologi is ready?).

Yeah I bought the MSI 360Hz 1440P panel and love it, but will probably return it before the window is up and get the LG 27" just for the RGWB layout. Text IS acceptable on the QD panels, but there is barely visible doublevision effect from fringing. I use it all day everyday for work (text) and half the night for gaming. Works fine and it's a tough call. Colors will be more washed out on the LG panels due to the white pixel. Most of those will have LG's matte coating too which can't be anything but a downgrade. It's a tough choice.. smart thing to do is wait for reviews on both, but it was hard to get ahold of this panel and anyone who goes QD is not 'making a mistake''.

I'm currently using the 360hz Qd-oled and love it, But I did return my first unit due to it being much dimmer than I expected. I gave it another shot and can say it's "bright enough" but does leave me wanting and HDR doesn't really help that. If they can update it to reach a little over 300 nits or just let it peak higher with some abl, I would be happy. It's almost endgame, just needs a little boost in the brightness to appreciate its other quality's.

I really want to see the size difference between the 39" UW and the 38" UW. I have the 38 and I know its more like a 21:10 ratio and if the 39" is a more traditional 21:9 I think it will actually be shorter vertically. Thats why I am aiming for a 45" UW because I want a bigger picture size in that respect. Also, since LG is doing the whole dual resolution thing, if the make the 45" UW dual resolution (2560x1440 @ 480hz) it will be the perfect monitor for me, I really hope they do!

Thank you for the updates. I really appreciate it. Maybe you can clear up a question regarding HDR on the MSI 271QRX/321URX. Can you confirm that HDR works correctly and uses the appropriate gamut (i guess rec2020) when viewing HDR content when its NOT set to sRGB. So for example when i set it to Pro Mode: DisplayP3. Because im afraid it still bugged on other settings and not only the sRGB mode. Did you check that out and measured it ? Also i read that few people have more issues when using VRR via HDMI than with DP. Are there differences between these two inputs that could be the reason?

We are planning some further testing of the modes and HDR on the 321URX so keep an eye on the pinned comment against that video soon. I expect it using the P3 mode in SDR (slightly reduced colour space compared with native) would result in that same emulation in HDR mode. Although a lot of content in HDR is in P3 so that’s not going to be too bad. You’d prob need to use one of the none emulation modes to deliver you full panel gamut in HDR (and SDR)

Fantastic job! It requires some dedication to go through that marketing bs and clarify the stuff this well in a 15min video. Some manufactures don't even clearly point out weather their panel is woled or qdoled not to mention the generations. For me I am mostly looking forward to that Samsung gen "2.5" meaning the next generation 34" ultrawide. Sadly that launch seems to have the least amount of information floating around. Very useful information. I am thinking about upgrading my monitor. However, it looks like the best option is to wait for the next generation of OLEDs because I don't want to be stuck with an inferior panel. It always seems like the next best thing is just around the corner. On a related topic, I am afraid that monitor producers will try to sell outdated panels by rebranding them. Also, maybe prices are not going down because manufacturors don't want to mass produce panels which will become outdated very soon...

At this stage the full specs and capabilities are not known, but the reason we divided them in this way was to make a distinction based on their production years. The only known difference at the moment would be with the pixel densities (getting higher as the screen size gets smaller). Other developments from Lg Display may impact those further down the timeline but at the moment we can’t be sure.

Hi patreon supporter here. Keep up the good work! One quick question. I've noticed that none of the recently announced 32in 4K OLED Flat panels either WOLED or QD-OLED have a Gsync module included. (Its obviously not impossible, because Alienware/Dell's AW3423DW QD-OLED ultra-wide does include it, but that may be the only one). Setting aside the cost of incorporating the module and license, what are the other blockers for ASUS in particular in not going that route with either of their 32in 4K 240z OLED options? Thermals? Connectivity? Diminishing returns? Thanks!

I have preferred QD oled however, with the added brightness, subpixel change, and new dual mode feature I dont see how I can pick QD oled. Especially with QD now seemingly going matte and the woled going glossy... I guess I have like 2 years to think about it but I am very torn because 4k 240 with an option to go 1080 480hz is kind of the best of both worlds and this is my leading choice but likewise a 34" 240 ultrawide thats 5120x2160 also is a dream monitor, when we can get the ultrawide with a dual mode for higher refresh its over.

Looks like LG is making some really big (and necessary) upgrades this year. Both Samsung and LG are increasing pixel density and refresh rates, but that's where the improvements stop for Samsung. LG is improving brightness by 30%, subpixel layout, and screen coating on top of that. Still worried about their color saturation though.
@DaddySizeIt
@DaddySizeIt 3 ай бұрын
my concern too, color saturation. That's a big deal. I bought the MSI 360Hz 27" QD-OLED and it's great, but there's a very slight doublevision appearance for text fringing. Given the prices on these, I'll probably return it and wait for the LG 27" 1440P panel with RGWB layout. I'm still not feeling 100% on the idea, but I do think QD OLED is superior, just maybe not for desktop use. TV I'm looking at the S90C 55".
@ClearAlera
@ClearAlera 3 ай бұрын
@@DaddySizeIt I hope you like it. I had the PG27AQDM (last year's ASUS WOLED flagship) but returned it due to pretty bad text fringing and really bad SDR color saturation. Was amazing for HDR gaming and I really miss the buttery smooth response times, but the desktop experience was worse than my 8-year-old LCD and I decided $900 was too much for that sort of compromise. It felt more like a cool tech demo for AAA games than an actual everyday usable product. I hope the RGWB layout and better brightness makes your experience better than mine was. Personally, I'm gonna hold off until the RTX 50 series cards come out so I can have something that pushes a lot of 4k frames and then figure out whichever 4k monitor is best at that point. Sadly using a TV as a monitor isn't an option for me since I wouldn't be able to sit far enough back to use one.
@DaddySizeIt
@DaddySizeIt 3 ай бұрын
@@ClearAlera that's exactly how I feel about it. I wouldn't say QD-OLED is "tech demo" grade though. Better than that. I do feel for the near $900 I paid for this with tax, I'm not completely happy. It's close though. LGs pixel layout on the panel you had is very weird. I feel like RGWB > QD > RWBG for desktop monitors. Yes my QD panel is not as crisp as the LCDs I have next to it for text. It's acceptable, but that slight doublevision effect is always there. I actually think the LG ‎27GP850-B is really hard to beat. The major gains in response time are at 120Hz anyway, and I highly doubt the pixel response makes any difference for hitting shots with that panel vs OLED. It's going to be hard to not purchase one of those while I wait for the LG RGWB panels. I would buy the 27GP850-B for $250 or so. But I refuse to spend over that on anything that isn't OLED at this point. Say $400, that money is best saved towards OLED at this point.

I love ultrawide monitors so you think it will finally look and fit well for consoles when it comes to gaming because people say ultrawide monitors aren’t good for consoles only PC gaming but I’ve had great experiences on my PS5 playing 21:9 aspect ratio although the screen stretches on console I still enjoyed it much but it is a big difference playing 16:9 vs 21:9 on console so I’m wondering if it will one day fit the same way it does for PC gaming?
@tftcentral
@tftcentral 4 ай бұрын
Most of the ultrawides should support a 16:9 scaling mode which would be a better choice for console gaming. The challenge on current models is they tend to use HDMI 2.0, and lack the vertical resolution for native 4K support. So it often leaves gaps with what resolutions you can use, and sometimes even limits HDR (like the Xbox can only run HDR when it outputs 4k)

Well some things have changed but the LG 32GS95QE it not properly released yet or shipping, and when it is, I’d expect very limited initial volumes to be available for a few months. So far that also seems to be limited to the USA, with no sign of pre orders or info for any other region yet that we’ve seen. It’s good though that LG Electronics have been able to develop that nice and early though thanks to their affiliation with the panel manufacturer, to have it available around the time of panel mass production starting. Other manufacturers aren’t as lucky though and their timelines will be later in the year still If LG mentioned June for the 480Hz 27” panel, then that will have been LG.Display, as LG Electronics don’t have any monitor announced with that panel yet. so their talk of June is likely for panel production, aligned with our dates here. The only monitor announced so far using that panel is from Asus, and their expectations are still for monitor release in Q3 they’ve told us

While I like the idea of a true-RGB layout, I don't see how LG can hit the brightness levels of WRGB or QD-OLEDs. It doesn't seem like they're getting a 480Hz option either. When you combine that with the prevailing opinion that text-clarity issues being a non-factor on the latest OLEDs, I don't feel particularly excited about the 2025 panels. What I'd like to see most is vastly improved longevity and an interface that can do true 10-bit 4k 480 without DSC. Even UHBR20 can only manage a measly 267Hz and I haven't seen any standards being proposed that go beyond it. Both VESA and HDMI consortium have been caught napping a little bit by these fast panels.
