As a former die-hard cruiser guy, the crusier scene is kind of divided into two camps. Some guys and gals want those tech-driven, real sleek bikes, while others want the old-school heritage bikes. Indian can facilitate both of those camps, while Harley really can't just yet. I think the Pan Am is cool, and I like the nightster more than the sportster s.

For a kid that had the spark for motorcycles grew on mid to late 1980's, the Cagiva Elephant 900 was one of the greatest "Dakar" bikes. Someone probably came with the idea of recreating it but Cagiva is so out of the radar it wouldn't catch. It was brilliant to use the Ducati brand power today to do it, and beautifully pay homage to the classic "Lucky Strike" paint scheme. Just awesome.

Im a big Aprilia fan and was excited when the Taureg was release. I owned one for a short time. My only complaint would be the motor falling on it’s face, off-throttle. I felt like I had to keep the revs up all the time. Ive since gone to a Husqvarna 701 I built up into a rally type bike. Lots more fun.

I enjoy your mostly non-biased approach to motorcycles. It is a breath of fresh air. I am an old biker, my first was a Honda 90 Super Sport, then a Lambretta, 305 Hawk, Yamaha, Kawasaki on and on. I am wondering from a demographic point of view who has the most accidents. When a 19 year old can jump on a 160 HP bike as his first. I would assume that the majority of accidents in the US on motorcycles is in the age group of 18-30. I then contrast that thought to the UK with there mult-level motorcycle licensing and wonder how motorcycle accidents in the UK in the 18-30 year olds compairs to US. Maybe if you run out of things to do, you could research this. Just saying. Be happy, be safe

It’s good to see Harley doing water cooled bikes again, even if it looks aren’t to everyone’s tastes. Metric cruisers have been water cooled for decades, allowing better power, longer life and improved emissions - so it makes sense to go that way. I actually really like the new Hornet. I assume everything is moving to parallel twins for a good reason. Reduced complexity and better torque lower down - but we will miss those inline 4s - that howl is definitely for the name Hornet.

I completely agree with you on the points about horsepower figures being focused way too much on. I own a 22 GSX-S1000 with "only" 150HP, and for anyone who has ever spooled up one of these bikes you quickly realize just how beyond overkill this thing is for the street. Once you've experienced this, it becomes completely laughable when people start talking about how 150HP is "not enough" in the streetfighter class because bikes like the V4 streetfighter exists. As if it makes ANY difference for a street/road rider! Even the MT-09 is totally overkill for the streets if you're planning to stay out of jail.

@@CathodeRayNipplez My Volkswagen was made in Mexico. Before that I had a Ford that was made in South Korea. I have a mate who's BMW was made in South Africa. That's the way the world works these days. And, no. Australians don't have a fascination with buying stuff from China. It's just where every company decides to make their products. Look around your house. I'm sure that you have plenty of products that were made in China. The X350 & X500 are the only Harley's that have ever appealed to me. Harley Davidson was the one who made the decision of where they're being manufactured.

@@punchbuggyyellow7097 Australians should be wary of funding the beast that is screwing their country. And yes, Aussies love cheap Chinese crap. And yes, made in South Africa, Mexico, South Korea no matter how bad, is superior to Chinese rubbish. The only reason companies make stuff in China is to avoid paying real wages and adhering to decent environmental practices. And No, I do not have 'plenty' of Chinese crap in my life. I buy with a conscious and vote with my money.

@@punchbuggyyellow7097 they are not coming out of Milwaukee. There is zero R&D involved. They are benelli bikes. They just have HD badge. Unlike a BMW that uses it's own factories and technology to make things. Or work in partnership like with TVS. The more accurate term would be HD reselling benelli bikes. It's the same bike with different colours. Like if Apple bought a samsung model and renamed it apple.
@punchbuggyyellow7097
@punchbuggyyellow7097 Жыл бұрын
@@bulthaosen1169 Actually, they're being manufactured in a new factory that is a joint venture with Harley Davidson. And yes, while there will be shared parts with the Benelli, there will also be Harley Davidson specific components as well. I'm sure that the Harley Davidson design department in Milwaukee had a decent amount of input into the bike, just like they did with the Street 500 that was manufactured by Bawal in India for every market outside of North America. A better analogy would be if it was like Toyota & Subaru getting together to design a car, or Toyota & BMW doing the same. Or in the motorcycling world, if Triumph designed their bikes in the UK but moved their manufacturing to Thailand. Oh wait, that's already happened. Made in America may be a really big thing in the US, but here in Australia it's a different story. All we've experienced besides HD are a bunch of 4 wheel vehicles of questionable quality that have a nasty habit of consuming lots of fuel, constantly breaking down & costing a mint to fix. Not exactly confidence inspiring.

I used to have a 92 GSF400 Bandit inline 4 with forks, triple clamps, clip-ons,& front wheel from a 1990 GSXR750 Slingshot and newer (in 1999/2000 lol) 6 piston Tokico calipers. It had the Slingshot 750 rear shock and a wider rear wheel running a 160 rear. You just need to ride it like a 125cc 2-stroke MX bike....wring it out, and carry as much momentum as you can. In the right hands on tight and twisty roads and tracks, I think the Ninja 400rr could destroy the R7. I work at a dealership and see the R7 as a very capable machine, but I think the 400rr would have an edge in many areas.

I can't agree on the CB750 being "such a high revving" bike, and therefore less fun on the street. Obviously, I didn't ride one yet (i had an MT07 Tracer though), but looking at the specs and characteristics of both engines, I don't see a world of difference: for peak bhp and torque is a mere 750 revs (9500 vs 8750 and 7250 vs 6500). On a subjective level, I actually like the slightly extended rev range (frankly, I wasn't blown away with the low rpm performance of my Tracer, but I did like the mid and high range very much), and the reviewers praised the Hornet for its punchy engine. I guess we will see :)

Appreciate and agree with your comments about the KTM Duke 790 as for the most part it seems to be an after thought if mentioned at all in most of the many on-line discussions about the Hornet/GSX 8S and the popular 650-800cc middle weight naked class.. Untested middle weight newcomers (Hornet/GSX 8S) should significantly up the class performance standards but in the end I think KTM's decision to reduce the standard Duke 890's displacement by 100cc and price by $1800 (US market) will end up giving us the best performance bang for the buck.

@@sallhame While that's true the 2023 790 Duke also is replacing the base 890. Scooters are the real tools. The down low weight and low seat height makes them able to travel through terrible weather and snow. They're comfortable and don't have a clutch (great for when you're tired AF after work.) And they often have locking storage for moving cargo around. Why have motorcycles become so UGLY?? Most of what's coming out on the market looks like some sort of terrifyingly hideous insectoid xenomorph. Can we not get a modern, plain, street motorcycle with current technology that isn't self-consciously aping designs of the 1970s or earlier? At least the retro bikes actually look recognizably like *motorcycles*. The Honda Hornet looks like it could have been a great bike, if they'd given it a smaller, lighter, more manageable engine and a less bug-like look with less clutter. Nobody needs 90 bhp on the street. Tech-wise, it has all the right bones, but the styling is just horrendous. If we could just get something that sits somewhere between the simplicity of the Royal Enfield Continental GT650 and the modern technology of the Honda Hornet, that would be the sweet spot.
