On the beauty of the Traditional Mass in the use of the Latin language. Why Latin? Did you know that the Latin the Church uses is not the classical version? Why does the priest face the tabernacle? Why so much silence? For more please go to reginaprophetarum.org & remember to say 3 Hail Marys for the priest

Thank you for this! I was especially edified by the part concerning Satan's hatred of the language and of how it is the universal language of the Church. I wish it were still true that we could attend mass anywhere throughout the world and it would be exactly the same because of the singularity of the Latin language.

Perhaps the opposition to Latin also includes a forgotten sense of the beauty of separation of the sacred from the familiar? Especially in America, where culture is so informal, it is ....(can't find right word, banal? crude?)

How does a language "preserve doctrine" over another? How is one more "beautiful" than an other? How is it "perfect"? Are you suggesting that a synthetic language is "better" than an analytic one?

The FSSP is not right they make compromises with the Novus Ordo, they are entirely under the Novus ordo, so they have to go along with whatever heresy or order is from the bishop. The FSSPX has always had their own bishops not in opposition of the church, but rather in accordance with her, and there is no doubt that the FSSPX is ENTIRELY valid.

We catholics enjoy listening and watching Latin mass in wonder more than listening and responding in a native or English language. It teaches and reminds us many things about the mystery of the Catholic Church; and brings the memory of the history of the early Catholic church. The early Roman martyrs were called by our Lord his children that he could die a second time for them. Our Lord called the Roman Catholic Church his bride.

The sadness is in the fact that Novus Ordo COULD be prayed ad orientem and in latin but where? Priests were purposefully starved of latin in seminaries and their proclivity to obedience during formation made them think that it was "against the rules" to inquire and demand proper traditional formation.

A couple of questions. 1) Re silence: I'm not a choir member but I've often wondered, how do members of the choir manage time for silence during High Mass? 2) My circumstances dictate that I can only assist at a Novus Ordo Mass these days. Thoughts as to how to use the noisy church for prayer during Mass? (Noise from constant music, even the priest singing the Prayer of Consecration while facing the "audience".) Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks, Reg.

Christ our Lord called the Roman martyrs his children ; the Catholic Apostolic Church his bride. At the Appinine hills. , Peter saw our Lord carrying the cross and asked Christ in his vision :"Quo Vadis?" Our Lord said to Peter: "I'm going to Rome " . Peter said: " But, Lord, Rome is burning!" Christ said: " I'm going to die the second time for my children in Rome. How about you, Peter.? Where agree you going? " So, Peter went back to the Roman martyrs whom the mad Nero fed to the lions for his amusements.

But Jesus spoke Aramaic, so why isn't the Mass in Aramaic?
@Leocomander
@Leocomander 5 жыл бұрын
AB CD The mass can be in Aramaic. The reason why Latin became the principal language of the church was because it was the principal language of the Roman Empire and was considered a unifying and universal tongue. Also we have full scripts of Latin and can expand on it and keep developing it that’s nor quite the case with Aramaic even though it is still in use by some Christian communities.
@isaiah3872
@isaiah3872 4 жыл бұрын
I think it's worth mentioning that Aramaic (which was once a lingua franca and native language throughout the Levant) is the traditional liturgical language of 3 Eastern Catholic sui iuris churches: the Maronites, Syriac Catholics and Chaldean Catholics. The first two used the West Syriac dialect and the last uses the East Syriac dialect. Because their ancestors were inevitably Arabized (it is the Muslim-majority Middle East after all), West Syriac largely disappeared as a native tongue, but still survives in several parts of the Maronite and Syriac liturgies alongside hymns and chants. Chaldeans on the other hand have managed to maintain their dialect as both vernacular and liturgy.

What about all the rites in the Catholic Church that do NOT use the Latin language? Are their masses less sacred for their lack of Latin? Does the priest act "in persona Christi" at mass or not? If so, is there anything intrinsically wrong with the priest facing the people as the person of Christ? Anyone ever brought up this point to you? Is it not at least worth considering?

"May God grant us grace to love the Mass, to love latin, to love silence, and to follow the priest at Mass into the Tabernacle of eternity." this is the closing prayer..there is something important missing here..let's expound...The latin is the official language of the Church it is sacred and pure...and as St. Pius XII the Latin Mass is an imposing unity to the Church...TLM is sacred & beautiful NO DOUBTS....but upon reflections Jesus is the Head of the Church and Church is the Mystical Body of Jesus...Jesus entrusted Peter the Keys & Authority to bind & loose..Matthew16:17-ff...as evident by the words of St. Ambrose & St. Ignatius of Antioch...the Church cannot exist w/out a Pope...and all the actions of the priests must be united and subject to the Church Authority... Question#1? what if a priest celebrated the TLM together with the attendees who are not in Full Communion with the Pope & the Church, meaning they are not submitting but resisting and not acknowledging the Pope and Vatican II Church Teachings....can the Holy Sacrifice being offered be united to the Church as One Body & Spirit? the Pope definitely cannot offered it in unity with Church...the priest freely chooses not to... Question#2? Can the Priest offer the Holy Mass (TLM) by his own prayer/initiative without submitting to the Pope Authority? Question#3? Can the offered Sacrifice eventhough it's TLM can be pleasing to God if it is not united in One Body & Spirit; in the Church together with the Pope? The answer to these questions are clearly answered by the great Church Fathers...thanks to St. Ambrose & St. Ignatius of Antioch...Godbless!

When the Holy Spirit prays in someone using their tongues he uses a mixture of languages. Some can be recognised, others are ancient dialects, some are utterances in the language of the Spirit himself. This cannot be understood (unless someone has the gift of interpretation) because the Holy Spirt speaks in wordless groans.

Natan Banwolf, all three are equally holy. The title "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews" was written in Hebrew, Greek and Latin. OT is in Hebrew, NT is in Greek and Holy Tradition is in Latin. God using Hebrew in that instance does not discredit the two other languages.

I know. It’s the same old story, over and over again: difficult to accept the fact that G-d makes “havdalah” (I am sure this is not a Greek word, and means “distinction”). Distinction between Israel and Esau, between Joseph and his brothers, between Jews and Gentiles, between Shabbat (Sabbath) and the other days, between Hebrew (G-d’s Holy language, where every letter has a supernatural meaning) and the other tongues. Love Latin (which I studied for 9 years) but I know that, in the end of times, the Holy Mass will be celebrated in........Hebrew. Be well.

....and you probably know that it is wrong to traslate the first word of the Bible “ Bereshit”, with the expression “in the beginning”, which in Hebrew would be “Berishona’”. The exact translation is “with the word” G-d created the Heavens and the earth, which is exactly what the Apostle John states in his Gospel “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was G-d.” Do you want me to believe that that Word was Latin, the language of one of the most ferocious nations in human history, whereas the word “crucifixion” is not even part of the Hebrew language?

No language is sacred. Jesus didn't have his Last Supper in Latin. The very first Holy Mass was in Hebrew / Aramaic. Second language was Greek. Latin is in the third place. St. Cyril and Methodius introduced Old Slavic language into the Liturgy and they were speaking of the HERESY OF THE THREE LANGUAGES. I understand that English speaking people especially in America builded their own Catholic Identity in Protestant environment around Latin Language, but the rest of the World did not have same problem. And, by the way, we (The Holy Catholic Church) had before Tridentine Mass 1500 years of very different liturgical rites throughout Catholic Church. Roman Catholic Church is just one of the many Catholic Churches. Largest one for sure, but not the only one. If someone wants to celebrate Holy Mass in Latin, he or she should learn Latin and be able understand the Holy Mass including Scripture and Homily. Laudetur Iesus Cristus in saecula saeculorum! Amen!
