Excellent review! Thank you for the humility explaining how you were kicking out the platform and what you did to rectify. This might save someone from getting hurt. I appreciate your ring-of-steps review as well.

Tree hopper tree suit is lighter….. but , you can’t level it. Very very detailed quality review. Never seen this channel til today. Will continue watching. Currently I only run a ring of steps …. But a missed opportunity on a weak side 5 o’clock shot a few weeks ago has me rethinking my tactics .

Been using a ring of steps with my platform since day 1. Cool to see I am not the only one that does this. Hunting big trees without it creates lost shot opportunities. It also helps you shoot. There is no need to be a balancing ballerina 20' up. Smart that they put the ROS holder on the post where they did. Shows they actually tried it out. If you put it too low or attach it to the platform it wants to uncam the platform from the tree in certain situations.

I would like to add a few things I noticed using this platform for a season. 1. you have to make sure the pivot point bolt is tight enough or it will have creak noise when you move. 2. I did not care for the finish they used. It had a grit in it for grip and it shimered if sunlight hit it. Like glitter almost. Spray paint to the rescue. 3. You have to keep a eye on the knob for leveling the platform it easily comes loose. I used some Loctite on mine. These also absolutley are casted parts.

I am using the XWing for run and gun to give it a fair shake and I can give a post season review. However I am keeping my Predator and Predator XL because they are tried and true.

Thank you so much for talking about the kickout issue! When I started using my x-wing I had this issue and thought I was the only one. Other than avoiding the side/rearward loading, is there a way to prevent it other than running the ring of steps strap in addition to the USA?
@platinumpursuitoutdoors
@platinumpursuitoutdoors Жыл бұрын
As long as your feet stay on the wing themselves, it might move, but it will not on cam. I think, making sure you set the platform starting parallel to the ground and then giving it a good toe cam should definitely help.

I didn’t see how you attached the ring of steps. Is there a connection point on the platform or did you just go over it with the ROS strap?
@platinumpursuitoutdoors
@platinumpursuitoutdoors Жыл бұрын
The platform has a ring of steps guide, which essentially hold your strap in place towards the bottom of the platform. All you have to do is feed the strap in the little guide, and then you can set it.

The tree hopper is sweet but it doesn’t allow for pitch adjustments. That’s a great weight too!
@MrShysterme
@MrShysterme Жыл бұрын
@@platinumpursuitoutdoors true...i think platforms with undersupports (like the tree suit) or maybe cables (like hang ons)....if this is developed further and refined with pitch adjustment and the like....might make platforms even lighter....combined with using different materials like polymers or even cord in non-structural areas and tubes/grates instead of solid metal.....might really bring the weight down some of these medium sized platforms weigh as much as a locon windwalker tree stand with seat and the whole 9 yards....my suspicion is that many saddle platform design requires them to be overbuilt so that the unsupported end of the platform doesn't bend or break i guess i should learn to weld/machine/bend metal!

The prices for these platforms is ridiculous. You can buy climbing stands for less than some of these tiny little platforms and most of them have to be modified in some way.

The new wild edge platform puts this to shame. It does not kick out whatsoever! I'm sorry I had to say it. I don't normally use a platform. Three wild edge steps has always been my go to. Now I'm using two wild edge steps and the new platform. You can do so much more in movement with, that set up. Your missing out if you don't try it. Good review and to the point , but the price tag and the possibility of kick out , is a way no go for me.

@@platinumpursuitoutdoors it is but it doesn't flex like the other platforms! It's solid! Having the other step above is a game changer! I've been saddle hunting for six years now. For whatever reason, everyone fought saying you only need a platform. I like room to maneuver. I don't care if it takes more time to set up if it helps me, make the kill.
@platinumpursuitoutdoors
@platinumpursuitoutdoors Жыл бұрын
I gotcha. I think you’ll find people on both sides of the spectrum. That WE platform plus the attachment method is about 4 pounds plus three Wild Edge Steps is another 3 pounds. So you are talking 7 pounds just for the platform set up. With the Latitude xwing, a Bullman ring of steps with three steps and the attachment method comes in it just above 3 1/2 pounds so half the weight and it has more platform space. So I think the latitude will appeal to the guys who want to have the lightweight advantage but I still think people need to use what works best for them. If you are comfortable with your set up, then you need to use that and focus on killing deer! Thats Whats it’s all about anyway.
@mikenutto396

@@platinumpursuitoutdoors you can sit and try to remove every ounce , if I worried about it like that , it means I'm over complicating the process of going hunting. One the wildedge step doesn't flex , where as both other platforms mentioned do. Light weight doesn't always mean it's strong. I want sturdy , equipment. That lasts! I'm 15 to 25 feet up. I don't want something that flexes under my feet. Yes I get it that people will want the least amount of weight. The possibility of a kick out is next. You proved it yourself , if you don't know what your doing , and don't use a strap, rou could have an accident. I'm 51 , when I started bow hunting almost 30 years ago we were taught safety is everything. The saddle world has really gone to lengths avoiding safety! Product after product cheaply made,with little thought on safety. I'm putting this right there in that category after you showed what could happen. Why is it products are being brought forward without the over all safety of the consumer being thought out? I see it with way more then just the platform. I could go on and on but unfortunately it will be the downfall of saddle hunting when people get hurt. Weight wise if I'm going mobile three wild edge steps still can't be beat, it's tree pounds. And I can take just my set of steps and add three more and still have mobility , and the steps have stood the test of time. I get it each to their own, yet I'd rather keep it simple rather then complicate the process of climbing a tree , just to kill a deer , let alone worry something was going to go wrong. This is just my opinion of course. Again each to their own.

You did notice the wild edge steps on my telephone pole and the WE Battlement? I have and support all companies. As far as this ex-wing, being strong and sturdy, based on the way that it was machine, I would put this up there with any other platform as far strength. As far as flex, I personally prefer the platform to flex some because it makes it feel softer under your feet. Aluminum or a platform that flexes is not a bad thing. But like both of us have said. That’s why I like options. There’s room in the industry for people who prefer much heavier set up and there’s room for people who prefer a much lighter set up.
