George actually introduced himself as “the husband in law” at Eric and Pattie’s wedding 😂 lol I love him. And then there’s also the interview moment “we shared the same wife” when George was asked about Eric. I love George always joking, so relatable. Bless him. Rest In Peace my love, my favorite Beatle, George. ❤️

@@carlosangulo3035 George's marriage with Pat went weird after he went to India and too deep to religious eastern cult thing, he decided sorrounded him self with a lot of girls, don't forget that this is an era of hippies and flower generation, traditional marriage values and norms is out of the window, so Patty is devastated by George sudden changed. And there's Eric, George's 'best friend', who probably loves the idea of falling in love (especially the forbidden love). Patty was in vulnerable emotional situation at the time, she though Eric was her true love after she lost George, but nope, she later realize that both men are just into their ego. Both men just loves the idea about falling in love with her, but never really love her. At least she found her peace and happiness in her 3rd marriage.

Damn, 'if you don't go with me, I'll take this whole vile of heroin.' That right there is a massive sign of a failed relationship, before it even started. Generally, out of control, abusive minds make threats like that to their partners. It's not cool to make someone feel guilty for their own choices in love and life. Example: 'I'm sorry I hit you, but if you walk out that door, my death is on YOUR hands.'

Too true !!! If someone uses emotional blackmail like that to try to get their way it is a very big red flag that are a manipulative, abusive and controlling personality, and should be ran far away from. Sadly a lot of people would not see what Eric did to Pattie as emotional blackmail or manipulative, they would see it as desperation born out of obsessive love. It's no wonder that Eric for all his professions of undying love and tenacious pursuit would treat her like crap once her got her.
@kate_cooper

Yes, a partner threatening suicide or self-harm if you leave is a massive red flag and a textbook piece of emotional abuse. Unfortunately for Pattie, that fact wasn't nearly as well known and recognised at the time as it is today.

People say in interviews or documentaries that she left George and married Eric, like she cheated or something, when it was George who cheated and Eric who cheated. She even stayed with George after Eric confessed his love for her and refused Eric for George, so in the end its not her fault that both cheated and one became distant with her. I love her. You have to wonder in Eric's case whether his deep involvement with Pattie was psychologically a way to bond himself to George. I'm sure that Pattie was lovely, charming, fun to be with, and all that--but something deeper must have been going on. Something Oedipal. For as great a musician and celebrity icon that Eric was at the time, he did not reach the zenith of worldwide adoration that George achieved. Making it with Pattie became a way to psychologically validate himself on a higher level in his mind.
@Markle2k

Ralph Adamo I'm sure the "Clapton is God" graffiti that started when he was in the Bluesbreakers, the acclaim of Cream and Blind Faith eased any jealousy he had over not being a Beatle.
@ralphadamo1857
@ralphadamo1857 9 жыл бұрын
Markle2k You might think that the acclaim Eric achieved would be enough, but when you reach the level that he has there are always higher mountains to climb. According to Ginger Baker, the esteemed drummer from Cream days, despite Eric's awesome talents, when he first heard Jimi Hendrix play, he was--in so many words--stung with envy.That's the funny thing about human psychology, and where the Oscar Wilde saying comes from: "There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it." An example of this is Oracle founder Larry Ellison, who's worth $54 billion, has a gigantic yacht, amazing autos, etc. Yet he feels great dissatisfaction and frustration that Bill Gates is worth $79 billion. Being #5 or whatever isn't "good enough" in his mind.

I always admired George Harrison for the way he handled the situation between Eric Clapton and Patti Boyd and always held a great deal of respect for him that he didn't allow this to come between their friendship. I wish I could say that I would have handled things with as much class, but I'm afraid I can't. In my humble opinion, George found his true soul mate with Olivia and perhaps that was the key to his recovery. That, and his beautiful son and his strong faith in his spiritual beliefs. The world lost a very good human being when George passed.

***** George Harrison was a beautiful human being and I hate it when people get on here just to talk trash or be disrespectful. The man brought joy to millions of people...first as a member of the Beatles and then later in his career as well and that's more than 99% of us will ever do. He was happy with his wife Olivia and together they created a beautiful, talented son in Dhani. Artists as varied as Jeff Lynne & Tom Petty to Ravi Shankar & Prince respected George's immense talent, and again, that speaks volumes about the man. Thank you for the kind words. Take care.

MrMike9158 I totally agree. Though I always felt like I related to Harrison in many ways, and when I finally read the story about this whole love affair, I felt like he reacted very much how I would have. Agtronic I liked your comment and much respect to you if you truly feel you would have reacted the same way George reacted. It takes a good person and a strong person to react that way. I'm not sure I can say that I could have reacted like George did. As I stated previously, I think finding Olivia played a big part in his recovery along with George's personal Spiritual beliefs. And of course, once Olivia gave him the beautiful gift of Dhani, his healing was complete. This of course, is all just my own opinion. I just totally believe in my heart that George was a beautiful man and a very good human being. I appreciate you posting your thoughts with me, thank you. Take care.

+James Morris Yes, I agree there is two sides to a story, I read Eric Clapton's book also....he describes his behaviour during his alcohol abuse days and addiction and it coincides with reading Patti's book. So glad Eric finally got some help so he could have a healthy relationship and is happily married or so his book says.

Rita Coolidge wrote the entire second half of the song with Jim Gordon for another song she planned to release called "Time (Don't Let the World Get in Our Way)," and she was rightly angry after hearing it on "Layla" and not receiving credit for it. The song was then recorded by her sister, Priscilla, with Booker T. Jones (Priscilla's then husband) in 1973... but this time, it was Jim Gordon who didn't get the co-credit!

Not only that, but even Eric's half of "Layla" has melodic inspirations: Duane Allman came up with the main riff after hearing Albert King's version of "As the Years Go Passing By."

After reading her autobiography, George was the better man, but.....not by much. Eric was downright creepy and manipulative. I always held George in the highest esteem for his spiritual direction. But the truth is, after reading the book, it seems like the Maharishi really messed with George's head. He was never the same after the Beatles returned from India. Instead of being more spiritual, it appears as his ego got inflated as he thought of himself as a guru with all rights to have a harem more than a husband. Pattie blames the massive amounts cocaine that George took as making him more withdrawn, but she talks about his meditating quite a bit. Both I believe were destructive. But Eric, psssssh, what a shallow narcissist.

AdventuresOfTheKanFam ..I just read Eric Clapton's biography and he had a severe drinking problem. It was far worse than the smack.. Eric was with every woman he wanted and they were more than happy to please him. Yep, he cheated on her big time. He said he wanted Pattie so bad but then after getting her it was no longer fun and his so called love for her went away.. I do love Eric Clapton. He had a screwed up childhood.

Loved Eric's guitar playing and the Layla LP yet he was just messed up in the head to treat his best friend so crappy by "falling" for George's wife Patti. It's like stabbing George in the back. Patti was cool through it all for the most part. I think they both were too young to marry anyway and happy George fell in love again.

Frank Sinatra said "Something is the most beautiful song I've ever heard". Any way Pattie certainly inspired two great musicians, and ultimately three of my favorite songs. The spontaneous instrumental born at the end of "Layla" is my absolute favorite. Second only to the piece Hendrix pulled out at Woodstock.

I have read some good comments about how George handled the triangle with Eric , his friendship with Eric and his everlasting love with Pattie till the end of his life even if he knew Olivia was the love of his life and that she saved him in many ways. Anyway I'd like to add that as human being there's no possible comparison between George snd Eric as George was an incredible great human being and Eric knew that when he organized the Concert for George. and when in Japan during an interview he explained why he loved George. Thanks God for the present of his life!!!

This interview helps me solve some conundrums in my life. Thank you, Pattie. ... My husband is a musician. He plays "Wonderful Tonight." And Layla is one of my favorites of Eric's songs. .. But even as the muse that you are, the men could not be faithful, and you still couldn't keep their attention. (Not an insult to you at all!!!) Sometimes, I just feel invisible. ❤️ ... Sad..that neither man gave her any money and yet she was their muse to those incredible songs which are still being sold today! Both George and Eric ended up becoming hugely wealthy and I read she had a hard time financially even keeping her house and had to borrow money form Eric! I love both of their music...but they treated Patti awful considering they each made a big play for her to marry them and then tossed her aside later selfishly in addition to cheating on her. I enjoyed her book and she was an icon to all the girls in the 60's..we all tried to look and dress like her.

jab3785 Considering that Heather Mills got 48 millions pounds in the divorce and after a few years of marriage (and a child) to Paul, it is tragic that Patti Boyd practically got nothing from either George and Eric. She didn't follow after either of them, they both came after her and she believed they loved her. It was so strange that George was sleeping with Ringo's wife Maureen while he lived with Patti. Those were some strange times but there's a lot of great music that came out then as well from both men.

I can believe that George really was the love of her life. Olivia Harrison has said that George had a tremendous affect on women. She said even a few words from him directed at you as a woman would stick with you forever. I am however glad in the petty side of me that George did get Eric back. He had a weekend affair in 1991 with Eric’s wife in Japan around the time they did a concert there together ... she has said that he was tremendously tender even though they had sex the whole weekend they talked as well and he was incredibly kind and held her as she cried about how Eric was icing her out since their sons death.. She also answered his questions and listened to him as he shared how he felt about the whole Patti/Eric thing which really affected him more than he led on this woman never forgot that weekend and has said it was one of the most passionate and tender times of her life which further proves Olivias point. He was an amazing man and according to other stories as well a very attentive and wonderful lover.
