Pattie Boyd breaks her silence on her marriages to George Harrison and Eric Clapton in her 2007 autobiography, “Wonderful Tonight” which reads like a cautionary tale. A fairytale that at times felt more like a nightmare. She shares some delightful stories about the good days but as time goes on she describes some jaw dropping moments that provide insights into the dark side of living the rock and roll life in the 60’s and 70’s.

Such a sad story. At least she realised that George was a better husband than Eric but the whole story is dreadful. Those crazy psychedelic drug/drink fuelled sixties/seventies have got a lot to answer for.

George was only incrementally a better husband. A spouse constantly cheating is no picnic to live with. He's addicted to variety and is not going to stop until he's dead. This is the demoralizing downside of involvement with a rich, famous, desirable man, and no woman is ever prepared for this aspect of daily life with such a man.

Fools alright! Patti just wanted to be a good wife with strong hopes to become a mother. Could it be karma? - Eric’s son passes away tragically & George is stabbed in the chest by an intruder in 1999, then dies (of cancer) in 2001. hmmm 🤔 So glad Patti has found happiness and a good life for herself ❤

I can’t understand how anyone would repeatedly put up with so much betrayal. Pattie’s youth was wasted on men who didn’t deserve her. Jane Asher showed how betrayal should be treated. All’s well that ended well though. She found someone worthy of her in the end.

@newdeltamusic
@newdeltamusic 3 ай бұрын
@@savannahsmiles1797 according to the timeline for that possibility, Jane kept up the ruse for a little while but was aware her Paul had died. The breakup was inevitable but she was gracious enough to not time it too closely to Paul's passing. Billy Shears (William Shepherd) was then free to publicly marry the woman he had met and fallen in love with, Linda. Personally, if this is how it all went down, I don't think Billy is the bad guy, as wonderful as Paul was. Billy Shears has given us a lot of great music. But I don't know what to really believe at this point. I can see either (just a crazy conspiracy theory or the greatest switcheroo EVER) as being possible. That is when George paid Patty's rent for an apartment as long as she lived there. That is the least he could have done for her. I am glad Patty is finally doing well. For their behavior, for us not leaving fast enough, for not being smart enough- just keep that in mind in the future when discussing this. We really beat ourselves up emotionally inside about it. It’s a cycle. They break you down slowly, and over time. Tiny boundary crosses, slightly larger. More frequent …the love bomb love bombs loooovvvee bomb best ever- then they go in for the first big cross. And and are shocked. You can’t believe it. You think they can change. That they will. We all heard about the rotten lifestyle Erich Clapton had. It is amazing that he is still alive and has sobered up. I remember when my ex husband was helping out with Richie Blackmore’s Rainbow. I know he was helping with audio at the time. We were invited to their concerts and I remember the groupies that would hang around. Jimmy Page’s name was always mentioned along with Keith Moon. To say that these crazy relationships were continuously circulated is understatement. Olivia was the woman who stayed married to George, so obviously strong enough to put up with or deal with George's shenanigans and Dhani had a good Dad in George. Much unlike many people, I have never seen clapton as being among the greatest of musicians, singers, songwriters. Good, yes. He can play. But he just never seems to be able to deliver the 'feel', the 'soul' of the music. When he copped the great songs of Bob Marley and J.J. Cale, he understood the total 'cool' and bluesy depth of their abilities and tried to copy it. But he never could measure up to what they brought to music. That said, I never had any idea that these guitarists, all at the top of the rock pyramid, passed around and scrounged either others wives like snagging a cigarette out of the next guy's pack! When I only hear one side of a story, I automatically discount it's validity by 50% until I hear the other side too. But even at that, much as I am still in awe at the musicianship that most of these guys achieved, I can now only muster a tiny fraction of respect for them - 'rock-n-roll lifestyle and all that" aside.

@sylviaelizabethclarecholic2073. She hasn't been 100% honest about those times. She has selective memory and only discloses "just enough" to keep things vague but generate interest. Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones) revealed much more about his repeated flings with Pattie (while she was married to George) in his book "Ronnie". Ronnie was also friends with Clapton and would holiday with them in their house in the Bahamas. Pattie has maintained a very cozy friendship with Ronnie Wood.

I read about a lot of this in her autobiography. As a young girl of 12 & 13, I wished so much I could look like Patti, but sure wouldn't have wanted the chaos & heartache in her life. It's so sad that she allowed herself to be so mistreated by men in her life. Solid proof that being beautiful has nothing to do with having healthy self-esteem!

Pattie’s sister Jenny Boyd didn’t just marry Mick Fleetwood. She married him, divorced him, then married him again, then divorced him again. Apparently their relationship couldn’t survive the success of Fleetwood Mac, and Mick had a brief affair on the road with bandmate Stevie Nicks.

There's nothing kind & sweet about taking an advantage of your younger sister. I guess most people don't get that or gloss over that. I mean playing Layla for her, while Eric was living with the sister & saying or implying that "hey, he wrote that for me". Whether it was true or not, which it was, that was cruel, and to turn around and kick your little sister to the curb is just wrong. Patti's not sweet. I'm an older "prettier" sister & never have I ever treated my sister like that. Drugs or no drugs.

Exactly. I don't know why the commenters here think that Rock/Pop musicians own the market on this. Women kind of pushed it too during the 70's. I was young and I remember but I never could detach my emotions from sex. I grew to see that I ultimately had hurt myself or knew no different due to my own childhood trauma. The only upside were men who started to complain in the 80's about being a piece of meat.

This just goes to show that as the great philosophers The Cramps said “people ain’t no good”. People like George Harrison and Eric Clapton have enviable musical talents but are generally just as flawed as everyone else. I find it particularly telling that George would envy the “holy men” not due to their wisdom or connection with any divine power but rather because of the young women they attracted. Granted Pattie may have an axe to grind but still it sounds pretty believable to me.
