I just finished LOExG (The Nemo Trilogy), and I gotta say, some of the best parts of the series are found in the prose sections of the books (Quartermain Chapters, Almanac, The Life of Orlando etc....). Kindof surprised DC fought to get The Black Dossier and didn't offer the special paper grains on the original releases from ABC and TopShelf Comics. Not to mention, the Black Dossier sets up the next stories, which DC doesn't own. If you don't have LOExG, The Jubilee Edition is ok. But I'd recommend the ABC/Topshelf releases, since the paper grain is actually related to certain plot points, or "secrets" hidden within the story.

One of the rare cases where Im glad to have the original standard sized hardcovers. They are so much nicer with their embossed faux leather covers and ribbon bookmarks. Thicker paper too. Also they match the size of sequels published by top shelf.

Same a softcover but no dossiers.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol 1 & 2 are pretty approachable since they have characters that most people will have a passing knowledge of like the Invisible Man or Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde but, it is the later books that will give people the most trouble like the Black Dossier. Just remember that Moore is delving DEEP into literature and pop culture so it's easy to become lost. In the backup stories you've got Allan Quartermaine meeting the Time Traveler from H.G. Wells Time Machine and they fight the Morlocks for God's sake. Though the most horrifying backups are of what really happened to Alice (Alice in Wonderland) after her return and also the expedition party that decided to investigate her story. *SPOILERS BELOW*: . . . . . Alice returns from her Through the Looking Glass adventure with her internal organs reversed and unable to eat regular food. Only one of the expedition party members returns looking like a carbon copy of himself, skin turned black and his eyes reversed (black where white is and pupils turned white). If I remember right he drags back one of the Playing Card Men which promptly dies.

Great overview (as always). I have read and loved the first two volumes but have never read Black Dossier. I fear I may not like it as much as the others, but I am still excited to get it all in one book. The price point for this book was just right on, so much so that I couldn't pass it up, even though I have all the TPBs. The binding is a bit of a disappointment though.

Never read the book but vaguely remember the movie. Moore often makes my head hurt but I feel like reading this now!

I like the Black Dossier too! But I did not read it with the 3d glasses tho. Could not bring myself to take them out of the book!

Totally agree about the Black Dossier 😂 I remember sometimes reading a page or two and then literally having to go back and re-read them. Just not on Alan Moore’s level I guess.

I tought the movie was a fun action filled thrill ride - all u really can expect from a summer blockbuster , i look to other type of movies for a good story but its always nice to get both things in a movie like born identity or lord of the rings

The 3d remind me of that Masters of the Sun book where you could use your phone to read it in AR.

Hi Omar, Would you ever do a Terry Moore overviewed and show us all his independent stories? I’m keen on getting into some of them but they are very hard to find and expensive. Give your audience a general plot and what the series is similar to so we know where to start eg Rachel Rising is similar to Buffy. And the differences between the soft cover omnibu and hardcover, et cetera. Thanks mate.

I find Alan Moore to be super dense. I think he is a genius in the medium and elevated comics. He paved the way for many of the writers in the industry that I enjoy, but I end up really confused after I read anything of his. One of the measuring sticks I use is if after reading something can I remember the little details. Is it memorable? Sadly I don't find Alan Moore memorable. I'd like to try his Promethea or even his past work on Supreme and I think I enjoyed his Tom Strong stuff. I'm curious what did you not like about the movie? I was able to understand the movie better than the book, but I'm just curious why the movie was criticized and failed?

I confess that I've only seen & enjoyed the movie. Might have to buy those books!

Great review Omar. I have the first two in softcovers and heard the Black Dossier was meh. But this would be worth the pick up. I noticed the omni has "wavey" pages is that due to the glue binding or something else? I noticed both my Super Sons omni and 80s of Batman have a similar issue and I'm just curious how it occurs.

I have a question, I was gonna pick up the all new xmen run in HC but I don't know the difference between the premium Hc and the regular Hc ... is the premium the oversized one with the dust jacket ?

Is there a difference in the coloring and page quality of jubilee edition and tpb omni?If so which is better?

Yeah I already had the paperback so I skipped this one mostly cause the black dossier isn't really any good.

Do Knockabout or Topshelf have the rights to print the DC books? If Moore owns the rights, can he grant any publisher to print all the stories? In other words, will there ever be a real LOEG OMNIBUS?

Had a question - I have noticed a (looks like) a reprint of the Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus vol 1 and also the Amazing Spiderman vol 4 are both due out in June on amazon, however it is no where to be seen on Instock trades coming soon list. Does it keep the thick and rough paper stock that the "Fanny Hill" section in The Black Dossier had? Also - I have the Top Shelf LOEG books (Vol. III: Century and the Nemo trilogy), I can honestly say they're a better read than Black Dossier. Both connect to Vol. IV: The Tempest, so they're recommended reading. It's worth noting that the binding on the Vol III collected edition is terrible.
