In today's video, Chuck shows how to make a pattern from scratch. Making patterns isn't a quick process and it isn't always easy, but if you take your time and make adjustments as you go, you'll have a beautiful pattern in the end! Whether it's a design you've had in the back of your mind for a while or something that was inspired by the shapes of a fellow crafter, let's get those ideas on some pattern paper!

What I like about Chuck is that he is so enthusiastic. You watch some of these other guys and they will put you to sleep. Chuck makes you want to go to work!

Yes he does. Unfortunately I am still waiting on my supplies to get in. So, I end up thinking of other stuff I want to try and I can't stop buying more stuff to get into leather working lol.

Well, I’ve watched this video three times and I finally came away with one thought. In order to make a pattern, you just have to jump in and do it. One of two things will happen. Either it will come out good or bad. Chuck mentioned the word we all need, confidence. Where do you get that stuff, confidence? By just doing it. If it comes out good, well you got confidence! If it comes out bad, well you through it out and start over again. Good luck everyone!

I try to be as eco friendly as possible, so I use Strathmore watercolor 300lb weight paper for patterns instead of plastic. I've found graph paper is very helpful for making small patterns from scratch.

Thanks Chuck. This helps me a lot. I usually end up making things just a tad too small after assembly. This video will help to figure out what I am doing wrong. Now maybe the next project will be like I imagine it to be.

Amazing Chuck! It’s really a great way of coming up with our own designs. Close? Yeah maybe but then especially in fashion nothing is really new. and putting your own spin on things makes it so much more personal.

Hey Chuck, you've mentioned that you put non-slip tape on your straight edge rulers. Is it a special kind? The kind I'm thinking of I'm worried it'd scratch up leather.

Useful articles cannot be copywritten in the US. Only the decorative elements incorporated into the design of the useful articles that can be identified separately from, and are capable of existing independently from the article can be copywritten. So you can't copy something like a carving, but you can take pretty much anything else. This was determined by the Supreme Court in 2017
