It also looks like a wash basin or a roomy bathtub. In any case, it's probably the coolest design I've ever seen on a record player.

I'm glad this isn't just another shiny plastic object. I like the look and anything that lights up makes me happy, but I was worried it wasn't great quality. So thanks for the review! I went ahead and ordered one.

I"ve gotta say, though it may not be made with great materials and the highs are extremely rolled off, but this thing is STYLISH! I'd want one of these just for the way it looks. It probably sounds fine through a proper stereo system, at least I hope it doesn't have any sort of sound doctoring circuitry inside.

Very interesting, looks like this modelled on record players from the late 60s and early 70s. These were actually floor standing models but also had only three legs, just quite alot longer. The arm was also of a similar design but usually plain black. MPK are shaping up very nicely. I hope they bring out some 'HiFI separates' style models.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like it probably could play with the dust cover closed. Notice the plinth around the platter, they certainly gave it enough space to accommodate a 12 inch record. It looks like there would be enough room vertically, as well.

Buy a 10" RGB colour ring light from Kmart. Remove the round led strip and cord and toss the plastic casing. Place led lights under acrylic platter on a decent turntable like a Pro-Ject. Affix with double sided tape and enjoy the light show!

There were a lot of unusual designs of record players, televisions, and other electronics in the 1970s. My very first thought when I saw this was.... Well, everything else is going retro, so why NOT the 70s styling? I dread the day that 8-Tracks become a thing again..... But there's been enough derision poured on the format over the years that maybe it won't happen. Then again, having said that, the Universe has now been incentivized to prove me wrong.

@@Recordology I sort of like the tactile experience of grabbing one of those big plastic cartridges and jamming it into the slot with a solid K-THAK. I could do without all the problems that plagued them, though. It's funny, when they were introduced they were a 'revolution'. They literally birthed the entire automotive-sound aftermarket, at least, on any sort of scale. Fifteen years later, they were the target of ridicule.

@@RecordologyYuck! same here I gave all mine away last year and I think my cassettes and the JVC tape deck are going next. I just couldn't keep up with the tape ripping, foam deteriorating and head alignment bleed. Now I notice a lot of cassettes with foam buffers going bad on them. I think Ill just stick to collecting CD and vinyl and mp3s. Cds can have rot too but its far less heard of than the other stuff. I had the foam buffer fall off on at least 10 well taken care of cassettes in just one sitting and I think I am going to need to back whatever I like up and throw them all away unfortunately. I love the jvc autoreturn deck I have though. Whatever I end up doing its going to require decluttering things that are in the way.

Interesting design mix, unfortunately another fail with just two speeds. Would have definitely favored 78rpm instead of BT, especially as there are compatible styli available for the AT3600L cartridge. Nice review, thanks! 👍
@xaenon
@xaenon 4 жыл бұрын
I can see why they'd omit 78 rpm from this unit; the people who need or even want that speed capability are comparatively few in number. And I'm noticing that the 78 speed is being ignored in a lot of newer models. The platter mechanism is identical to the ones found in many suitcase players and cheap all-in-one jobs, so adding a 78 rpm speed would actually not be difficult if you really wanted it. Though, of course, doing so would void your warranty.

There are only 3 feet to minimise vibrations not to increase stabilisation....because of course it's more stable with 4 feet

@@Recordology there was never a chance of wobble with 4 feet....exactly why tables and beds have 4 feet....its more stable than 3. From what I have read about why my Michell GyroDec has 3 feet, the only reason is to minimise the amount of external vibrations reaching the stylus. 👍🏻
