He was a lifelong leftist so trump continuing the Reagan/Bush legacy of deregulation and tax cuts for the rich along with big military spending would obviously be something he would oppose. Trump wanted to send people to prison for burning an American flag. Carlin supported flag burning. Trump supports cancel culture and told his followers to boycott HBO until they fired Bill Maher. Carlin was a friend of Bill Maher's and was on his show frequently. Trump put extreme right wing federalist society judges on the Supreme Court that want to ban abortion. Carlin supported abortion rights and had the great quote; "What's pro-life about being obsessed with the unborn and then, once it's a child, refusing it health, education and welfare?" Trump was a supporter of the religious right and had goons like Franklin Graham and Robert Jeffress at the White House. Carlin frequently mocked the religious right and organized religion in general. I love and treasure individuals as I meet them, I loathe and despise the groups they identify with and belong to.” ― George Carlin, Brain Droppings “The larger the group, the more toxic, the more of your beauty as an individual you have to surrender for the sake of group thought. And when you suspend your individual beauty you also give up a lot of your humanity. You will do things in the name of a group that you would never do on your own. Injuring, hurting, killing, drinking are all part of it, because you've lost your identity, because you now owe your allegiance to this thing that's bigger than you are and that controls you.” ― George Carlin, Last Words “Government want to tell you things you can't say because they're against the law, or you can't say this because it's against a regulation, or here's something you can't say because its a...secret; "You can't tell him that because he's not cleared to know that." Government wants to control information and control language because that's the way you control thought, and basically that's the game they're in.” ― George Carlin “The habits of liberals, their automatic language, their knee-jerk responses to certain issues, deserved the epithets the right wing stuck them with. I'd see how true they often were. Here they were, banding together in packs, so I could predict what they were going to say about some event or conflict and it wasn't even out of their mouths yet. I was very uncomfortable with that. Liberal orthodoxy was as repugnant to me as conservative orthodoxy.” ― George Carlin, Last Words

@r33mote He was a comedian who took shots at the powerful. He hated corporations, capitalism and conservative politics. Here is what he said about Ronald Reagan: ""The election of Ronald Reagan might've been the beginning of my giving up on my species. Because it was absurd. To this day it remains absurd. More than absurd, it was frightening: it represented the rise to supremacy of darkness, the ascendancy of ignorance." He was spot on. His takedowns of George W Bush were great too. We definitely missed him during the Trump presidency. Him mocking the MAGA crowd would have been awesome and hilarious.

I always look at George Carlin as a Mark Twain, a Hemingway, a type of Shakespeare of our time. A writer and a teacher that will be talked about a hundred years from now. Like an artist or Philosopher who was called crazy or mad during their life but so revered for their work later on. Ahead of his time. I learned so much from him and so fortunate to have lived during his time. He was definitely the greatest.

Despite leaning pretty conservative on most things, I always liked George Carlin because he said what he thought without really caring about what people thought about it. It's easy to respect genuine people, even if you disagree with them. A perfect example of a great man regardless of your views of the world.

I saw him in 1983 at the old Chateu de’Ville in Framingham Massachusetts. Leon Redbone opened for him. I grew up listening to all his records and knew his act forwards and backwards. Because of that, my Dad and friends got up just a minute before he finished and left outside a side door to beat the crowd. We were walking down a hallway, heard the applause, and then ahead of us out comes George being escorted by two other guys. Walking towards us, I stopped, said hello, shook hands and told him I was one of his biggest fans. He thanked me and went on his way. To this day, my favorite comedian of all time. More than laugh, he always makes me THINK. Isn’t that what a truly great comic is supposed to do? I miss him everyday.

Saw him live way back, laughed so hard thought I couldn't breathe. Had all his albums, basically had the first four memorized, used to recite them to my buddies in study hall had them in stitches. His first 4 albums went at least gold if not platinum and that was unheard of for comedy records. The thing that made him unique was his comedy was like a play with a lot of acts; each act had a theme, a plot, and a punchline. And no he was not any sort of philosopher, he was there for one thing and one thing only, to make you laugh. He did have his views on life but when he was onstage he had one mission, get you to laugh. And no one, no one, did it better. Or even came close. Lastly yes he started smoking marijuana age 14 and went through pretty much every drug out there till later in life he got clean. Miss him, he helped me see life for the humor not the bad.
