The legacy of Martin McGuinness
Martin McGuinness, a paramilitary leader and the former deputy first minister of Northern Ireland, has died at the age of 66.
He had suffered from a rare heart condition, standing down from politics earlier this year.
As an education minister who had failed at school and a man who had been convicted of IRA membership, McGuinness was always a controversial figure.
Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips reports from Belfast.

RIP Martin 🇮🇪 The people calling this man a killer seem to forget that the people he was fighting were ten times as worse and they are the reason he took up arms. You’d do the same if there were foreign invaders in your country.

If someone deliberately throws a plate to the floor, regardless of the reason for doing so, and causes that plate irreversible damage, and then subsequently chooses to pick up the pieces, does that make him a good man?

Imagine someone came to your house, smashed all the plates and you tried to fight them to get them out, then they tried to claim they were the victim.

If the reverse happened (Ireland, entered the English Isles, killed their men, raped and tortured, pillaged, and plundered. Contributed to a famine by exporting almost all other food sources, made forced work camps, forced religious conversions, burnt many family shelters to the ground over extortionate rent, over stolen land. Would you consider a handful of deaths on your own land, against your enemy, terrorism? How can you be a terrorist in your own land?
