Vax saying "dagger... dagger... dagger..." is an easter egg to the live shows. The voice actor Liam would say "dagger dagger dagger" when doing his full attack because he could attack 3 times with his daggers in one turn.

Random piece of trivia: The little girl who was strung up to represent Pike was voiced by Sam Reigal's (Scanlan's) IRL daughter. At this point they were doing all the recordings at their homes because of Covid and she was basically just a) around and b) interested in what her father was doing, so he got her into the show.

Now we get to see some of the Briarwood side of things, meeting the people before hand makes it sting even more. Happy to be seeing these reactions. Not one of the more impressive kills, but one of my favorites is from my first ever session trying ttrpgs. My favorite DND kill was when my Kobold character, who could not swim, killed a sea monster. He was out of spells, trapped underwater and about to be swallowed whole by the creature ( which was basically a Reaper Leviathan from Subnautica). Before the creature ate him, he uncorked his full bottle of Dust of Dryness. This instantly removed 500ish square feet of water causing both him and the creature to fall to the sea floor and crushing waves of water to rush into the space. My brother's character and mine almost drowned, but it was totally worth it!

15:41 Percy's gun is based on a real life design, called a Pepperbox, but the name of this particular weapon is "The List", for obvious reasons. In the game, Percy had had two of the barrels enchanted, adding fire damage to one, and cold damage to the other, but the ammunition itself was mundane lead shot, which he crafts himself. My best kill from my current character, an Aarokocra Monster Slayer Ranger, who threw a javelin through a Frost Giant's neck, but my proudest moment was successfully using the spell Ensnaring Strike to restrain a Remorhaz, as it failed a DC 14 STR check with advantage, and was stuck in place shredding itself against barnacle encrusted ropes while my party took it to pieces.

My favorite kill has to be when I, a warlock, worked together with a ranger and wizard to snap a dragon's neck with the power of cow. After not being able to land an attack on an ancient blue dragon all night and getting pelted with lightning, the wizard told the ranger to "Make a cow" and ran up to the dragon, holding her action to cast Tether Essence until she saw a cow within 30 feet of the dragon. The ranger used Conjure Animals to drop a cow right next to the dragon and ended his turn, and the wizard let the Tether Essence go, linking both creatures' taken damage. On my turn, I used Eldritch Blast with Repelling Blast to launch the cow off the cliff, dealing 94 bludgeoning damage to both the cow and the dragon, snapping the dragon's legs and neck in a cartoonish finish.

Best d&d kill for me was an assist. I was playing a dwarf rouge. So we're standing this doorway, and there's a guy and a werewolf on the other side. Shenanigans happened and I end up getting pushed up to the front of the pack and we end up rolling initiative. I'm still hurt from a previous encounter, and do NOT want to be at the front of this funnel. So I dive between the guys legs to get into the room, use my action to steal the guys belt (effectively pantsing him) and bonus action disengage and back up into the room a safe distance away. Next person in initiative uses his action to shove the guy and knock him prone (at advantage cause his pants are around his ankles). And then everyone else took their turns to run in and attack this poor guy on the ground.

My favorite D&D kill was definitely when I was able to take down a hill giant leader with a single arrow. Previously in the adventure we had faced off against an aboleth and upon defeating it another character suggested I take some of the aboleth mucus and I could maybe find a use for it later. When aboleth mucus comes into contact with a creature they have a chance to only be able to breathe water for a limited amount of time. Long story short I coated an arrow with the mucus and shot at the leader of the hill giants and watched as she slowly suffocated as we took out the rest of her followers.

Best D&D kill for me - I was a gladiator (who commissioned an artist to make collectable cards of me made - handed out to quest givers/rulers etc. Final battle was atop a large spire fortress to rescue the queen. Top floor had lair actions where sections of floor were trapdoors and would open and close (fall was large into spike pit). Our paladin was hanging onto edge of 1 pit, both wizard and rogue were down and healer was in single digit health. I saw final boss was on edge of trapdoor that would open after his turn, so I bull rushed him with my shield knocking him prone into middle of trapdoor, then dived on him for a grapple yelling "Remember & honor me". Boss failed to brake grapple, trapdoor opened and we both fell to our deaths. The queen had a statue made of me at her palace and my collectable cards suddenly became very valuable in campaign epilogue.

As a player, my favorite kill will have to be when we fought a necromancer and my warlock decided "F*ck this sh*t, I'm out", and ran to the door, but his patron stopped him and literally turned him around by the shoulders. He hid behind a casket and let out one attack, that was not only a crit, but also one with well-rolled damage, which was enough to end the fight. However, since he hid back behind the casket, he didn't notice he had killed the necromancer until a bit later. As a DM, my favorite kill was from our Tiefling Barbarian. The group had just gotten under a spell that made them small and gave them wings, basically making them fairies. They could discard the spell at any time. And the Barbarian decided it would be fun to start raging in fairy form, fly above an enemy's head, and turn back. He came crashing down hard with his axe, and the enemy never knew what hit him.

for me it's not even a contest, my best kill of all time was the final boss of a long running campaign where i played a paladin. the boss had downed our entire party, killed half of us, and we were literally just rolling death saves to try and get up, when I nat 20 death save, get up, bonus action branding smite my javelin, throw the javelin, nat 20 again, crit the boss to death, and then he explodes as a final attack, i'm the only one close enough to get hit but i nat 20 dex save and thanks to the shield master feat i get to reduce the damage to 0 instead of half therefore not dying. I know this sounds insane but the triple nat 20 in a row will always be my crowning achievement.

My best D&D kill was when my character fell of the back of a beholder 80 feet in the air, fall damage was mitigated by a party member who blasted a huge stream of water under me to break my fall. I immediately got up and cast darkness around myself and two enemies who could not see in the darkness and so made for easy kills. From the perspective of everyone else all they saw was my character disappear into a cloud of darkness and then a minute later two heads roll out 😂 She just casually strolled out afterwards and I felt like a badass. My character also killed a black dragon one time but I don’t use that as an example because I was unavailable that session and so my group jaeger’d my character so although she did it, I did not. We ended up deciding not to jaeger characters anymore after that, and if people aren’t able to make it (which isn’t often) then we just postpone the session.

Haven’t watched fully to the end, but since everyone seems to be sharing - my favorite “kill” (using quotations because while my character played a major role, it was more of a team effort) was when our party defeated a young Green Dragon at level 3. To simplify a complicated series of events, it was laired in an abandoned tower without a roof at the top of a hill in the middle of an abandoned village, so we came up with the idea to drop a bomb down on top of it through the opening. We took a bundle of dynamite, cast “Enlarge” on it, octupling (x8) it’s mass and thus the damage it would deal because more explosive material (and also tying some homemade shrapnel to it for good measure). My character downed a potion of flying to get way above the blast radius, and then chucked the thing down at the dragon. It hit, did a shit ton of bludgeoning damage to the thing as it impacted its skull, and then turned the tower into that cement truck from the one episode of Mythbusters. The dragon *barely* survived, and - after avoiding an initial round of attacks from everyone in the party with a ranged spell or weapon as it was flying off - our party’s wild magic sorcerer managed to kill it with a Magic Missile, severing it’s wings and sending it crashing to the ground. The thing is, due to some earlier wild magic shenanigans, if anyone in the party had hit it during the initial round of ranged attacks, it would have had its HP restored to full and we would’ve been in a world of hurt. Our sorcerer was an avid worshipper of Tymora, the goddess of luck, and I have a feeling that she gazed down lovingly upon our party that day as we feasted on Green Dragon steaks and did our best to collect a dragon hoard that had been explosively scattered across most of the town and surrounding countryside.

One of my favorite kills was when I was playing a halfling fighter/psionicist (2nd Edition). I was at the top of a 3 or 4 story tower, and the top floor was only enclosed on three sides. A hobgoblin "boss" type had pursued me to the top, and I was positioned near the edge on the open side. I taunted him via some heinous insults, so he started charging at me. I stepped off the edge, and (thankfully) successfully activated my "Animal Affinity [Eagle]" power, which allowed me to fly. I looked at the DM and asked him if the hobgoblin was able to stop his charge in time. One failed Dexterity check later, he went plummeting over the edge of the tower, and down into the canyon.

My favorite kill was we were stealthing down a hallway and could hear 2 Orcs around a corner. I used Thaumaturgy to make sounds come from a pile of boxes and then snuck up behind one and caused 47 points of sneak attack damage, then 14 additional points of damage with my bonus action while my two teammates killed the other one. It was pretty epic.

In terms of what system they're using they started off using Pathfinder but by the time they started streaming they were using 5th edition. Which is one of the reasons Trinket was left behind. Bear in Pathfinder is very strong, but not so much in 5th edition. They're still using 5e, which various homebrews that Matt has come up with, which often ends up becoming official D&D material.

My favourite D&D kill was against a Hag. She'd been bound at the bottom of a lake, but she was using mind fucky powers to try and get people to release her. It wasn't even in combat, my Druid, with whose head the Hag had fucked with, was so pissed she just stood on the shore of the lake use used Call Lightning for its full 10 minutes. So We had to use an online dice roller to roll damage. I did so much damage I boiled the lake away to nothing, turned the Hag to charcoal and that lake now has a permanent magical lightning storm over it.

My favorite kill was a hydra, my lvl 7 Dwarf fighter and my friends lvl 7 barbarian/sorcerer were kidnapped by some dwarvish rivals of mine and thrown into the cities arena. The two of us go wailing on this hydra while the other 5 players watched from the seats and tried to figure a way down.( they never thought to look for the stairs) At the end we both killed it, and we had 5 hp between the two of us.

In my first campaign, I played a Circle of the Mountains druid who carried an obsidian dagger, something she had made herself. We were fighting a homebrewed enemy that we all decided to call Mudbitch - he was a clay construct for whomever was controlling him, and the only way to destroy them was to hit the heart. So our characters are warn out, learning the weaknesses, etc., when I had the brilliant idea to stab him with the dagger. It didn't go all the way through, so I asked my DM if I could cast Stoneshape on it.... I turned my dagger into a longsword and that was the day the party learned to not underestimate my druid

My favorite kill in D&D? I remember it well. I was playing a Way of the Open Hand Monk. Me and the rest of my party was protecting a caravan holding a villain prisoner. The caravan was ambushed by a hole bunch of his allies including a blue dragon. The battle was very difficult and that dragon was causing a lot pf problems. So the party's wizard casted the Fly spell on me. I legit flew up and uppercuted the dragon, using one of my monk abilities to make it fall prone if it failed a saving throw, which it did. It crashed onto the ground and I followed with a second attack. Natural 20. I landed on the dragons neck and killed it. I will never forget it.

Maybe not my best D&D kill, but one of my favourites I like to recount, and a good story to demonstrate why I'm always loaded with random adventuring gear. Traversing a cave with the party, finding path into a cavern some monster we were chasing was lairing in when we came across signs of a goblin camp. The way around up to it was a rough hewn set of stairs chiseled out of the rock to ease passage, but it was dark, narrow, steep and one side was just a sheer drop into a vast emptiness. Being the cleric, and not wanting to have to deal with the pain of assaulting this camp in our path, but needing to get rid of the goblins somehow, jimmied some pitons into the rock near the top of the steps and strung a rope between them, in such a way that it could cause someone to trip and fall either down the steps, or if they were unfortunate, over the edge of the cliff face into the blackness. Tripwire in place, we made a commotion, drew out attention from goblins that came charging at us on the stairs. I cast light to blind the cave goblins and make them prioritize heading for me to stop the light, and out of 8 goblins that ran at us, only one didn't trip. All the ones that didn't go off the edge were kicked further down the stairs and died largely from accumulated damage rolling down the steep steps. The one that didn't fall stopped short of the rope trap and instead went back to rally the rest of the camp and wait for us, having realized that in about 12 seconds we threw 7 of them to their deaths and all it took was a bit of rope and a light spell.

not sure this counts for "Favorite Kill" (cuz it's more than 1), but... 1st: We got to level 12 or 13, and the party had been complaining (in and out of character) that my Wizard wasn't really helping (very little damage) in combats. I was playing a Battlefield Control Wizard. So, getting tired of that, I changed almost all my spells. We came across a town under siege by a small undead "scouting party" (small part of the bigger army... more on that later). Party engages. Instead of my usual control spells, I go full on offense. Animate Objects... I specifically asked the DM if there were flaming splinters... roughly 10 or more. Got a "Yeah"... so now I have 10 Flaming Splinters. Only 1d4 damage each... but they are on fire, so the DM grants another 1d4 fire damage. So that's up to 20d4 damage PER BONUS ACTION. And I also have Disintegrate. The party has never seen me use EITHER of these spells before. After a few rounds of combat, 4 of the 7 of us are down. And then there's me... destroying everything in my path. After the combat is finally over, everyone is alive and awake, I get to say the biggest Wizard flex comment ever! "Just because you haven't seen me do something, doesn't mean I can't." Later in the session, I clarified that I have chosen to keep everyone safe rather than destroying everything. They never complained about my lack of damage ever again. 2nd: We maxed out at level 18. We had planned to go to 20, but I kinda destroyed the chances of that... I mentioned above about an undead army. I'm talking THOUSANDS of undead. Well, after the above story, the Vampire guy in charge of this undead army hears about it and decides to march on our capital city. Luckily, we have 3 days to prepare (we found out via scouts and scrying). So my group starts setting up defenses for the city. as many trenches as we can... as many bows and arrows as we can. You name it, we tried to set it up if it was available. And then there was me... I spent 2 of those days in my Wizard Tower (which I built - via magic) doing research and calculations. At the start of the 3rd day (with hours to spare before the attack), I venture down the road... the path the undead army would have to take. When I get to a specific spot, I cast Alarm on the road and hurry back to the capital. The Capital City had well made walls of stone surrounding it. One could even walk on the top of them. (I forget what such walls are actually called, so apologies there.) I sit upon the top of the wall, calmly (I'm the only person that is calm) taking my breakfast. An hour or 2 later (in game time skip), the Alarm bell goes off in my head. I tell everyone, "It's time. Protect me while I work. DO NOT ENGAGE THEM OUT THERE. And do not interfere with my casting..." And I get to work... I start casting. The undead army gets closer and closer. The undead army comes into view and I'm still casting. People are getting worried. And then... the 10 minute casting ends. And so does the undead army as lava erupts from under ALL OF THEM. 1 Square Mile of Lava erupting and spewing into the air. Destroying the entire undead army. The DM and other players just "Wait what? Does that work?" I pointed out that the DM, when I asked about taking this spell, did say enemies could drown in water (citing Jeremy Crawford tweets) as such, they are effected. So Lava would work just like lava. So with 1 spell (not counting Alarm as that was just for timing), I eliminated the ENTIRE undead army. We stopped shortly after that because... I mean... how do you top that?

my favorite kill in dnd would have to be as my dnd 3.5 druid. me and my group were defending a city from a force of invading undead following in the wake of a terroasque (which we didnt directly fight but the dragon riders of the city were able to put it to sleep) each of the party members had to fight a deathknight that was commanding and controlling a portion of the undead. so my druid in his fight transmuted the earth to mud cause i figured 6ft guy in full plate male will sink in mud. and he sunk down the full 5 ft of mud and so after he had sunk down he was not able to climb out due to a nat 1 on the dm's side to climb out of mud in heavy armor and so when it came back to my turn i transmutted the mud into stone trapping the death knight and simply walked over and slit the knights throat i proceeded to turn into a trex and help out the other fighters on my side

I was a way of astral self Monk and my party was high level and attempting to Garner the favor of a band of warrior lizardfolk to obtain a piece of the corpse of one of our allies' former master. My character was considered the powerhouse of the party and so they put him up against the Lizardfolk's greatest warrior, a 20th level Druid. I proceeded to Ora Ora Machine gun them into oblivion before they could even move to the horror and awe of the crowd before throwing the foe into the water of the arena they had chosen to fight me in thinking they would have the upper hand. They even had a suicide bomb ability which I just absorbed with an item I had and dealt the final hit.

A bit late to the party but it was my favorite kill ever so I'm sharing. My character was a half-orc barbarian that fought with a maul, but he had a spear that belonged to his captain back when he was in the army, who died buying time so he and his squad could escape (this detail is important). The way I played him, when the half-orc trait of getting to 1 hp instead of 0 kicked in, my character would drop the maul and switch to the spear, to summon the spirit of his captain. This happened twice at the time, and BOTH times, once the spear was on, all the enemies who attacked him missed, so it created this legend of his squad literally having his back. The kill in question was a 1 on 1 in an arena, at level 3, and he was getting pretty beated, until the spear was out and then he managed to not get hurt for like 6 rounds and he won the battle. It was nothing flashy, but the icon of what it means to the group when that half-orc is fighting with the spear is something quite comparable to All Might's smile in MHA.

My favorite kill is actually very similar to one Grog does later on in the show (no spoilers though), where this huge panther beast threw my fighter like 300 feet in the air and I had the incredible idea to punch it on the way down. We were on open water at the time so it absolutely wrecked our boat and my armor had to be taken off so I could be fished out of the ocean and healed before I died from taking like 80 fall damage.

my fav kill, me and my partner, i'm a kobold UA monk way of the ascended dragon, and he was a goblin ranger ua that could summon a wyrm as a companion, we did sneaky sneaky in this town, we were paid to like do damage and cause a ruckus. But we found the storage which had black powder, which was next to an apothecary, which was next to this prison, which was next to the guard station. So we decided we were gonna blow this shit to kingdom come, we did the rolls, we set it all up and it went off with chain explosions and boy did it blow so many died.

Yeah. Percy's entire class was homebrew as Pathfinder had a Gunslinger class but 5E didn't (this also predates the existence of the Artificer class which is what he'd probably be now). As such Matt and Taliesin worked on making a subclass of Fighter for his adaptation of Gunslinger. Early on Taliesin flat out admits that he's the reason why so much of the rules are wacky in the campaign since they had to custom make an entire class for him. Other examples would be Keyleth using the Heat Metal spell on allies' weapons, accidentally making them drop their weapons and take damage because back in Pathfinder it was a thing she did to give them bonus fire damage but the spell doesn't work the same way in 5E.

I have to admit, I don't personally have an especially memorable kill story myself... but I do have the *opposite* - the time my Bard talked us out of a boss fight. A coastal town was under attack by a Juvenile Leviathan - the setting had established that the island continent we're on is isolated, as anyone who tries to come to or leave the continent by boat is destroyed by the Leviathans, but they've never actually attacked the coast before, so this was strange. I looked at my spell list, and realized something. The "Sending" spell specifies that the recipient can understand the message regardless of languages known... so I got a *crazy* idea. And proceeded to ask the Leviathan why it was attacking. The DM was not prepared for this... but was intrigued to the point where he allowed me to continue the "conversation" without expending further spell slots. Not only did I convince it to back down and leave in peace, I learned why it was attacking, convinced it that the one who provoked it was our enemy as well, *and* got a plot name-drop that the DM had not planned for us to receive that early. It was awesome. Definitely only got away with that shit *once* though.

They were being chased by this eldritch god called Hastur the King in Yellow, who was able to possess people so their old allies were by his side. They managed to lure him into the lair of Ymir, a Norse giant god who hates the gods, and basically recreated the "Let them fight" scene from Godzilla, were they were just running around fighting minions and trying to survive as the two gods battled to the death with giant explosions all around. It was amazing :)
