The pause on releasing reactions to content struck by SAG-AFTRA is still in effect. The content featured in this post, according to our research, does not fall under any of the struck categories issued by SAG. This video was published during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, this episode of The Legend of Vox Machina being covered here wouldn't exist. #SAGAFTRAstrike #SAGAFTRAstrong Support the Entertainment Community Fund for struggling strikers HERE: entertainmentcommunity.org/ EVERYONE can watch the Full Length Reaction HERE: blindwavellc.com/the-legend-of-vox-machina-2x01-full/

They cant actually legally stop you from making reactions. They can just abuse the youtube systems to bully you. But if actually brought to court. it would be an absolute slam dunk for you guys, or any other youtuber who finally stands up to this crap. Proving content is transformative is, basically as simple as can be. 'Do more people watch our reaction, then other peoples reactions? Well then guess were being transformative enough to make that much of a difference.'

Though they are shown running here in the animation too; theres a difference between running through half a city that is activley being torn to pieces and running to the nearest tree to jump directly home. They were nearly taken out just by the poison gas at the castle, no way they'd have made it through acid rain and that fire bomb like is shown here.

One of the craziest parts of this is during the session, the dragons weren't really making rolls, it just happened. The whole thing was Matt gleefully destroying the rich complicated setting he'd been building up for years, like a kid stomping down an exquisite sandcastle they made. You're horrified, you want to yell "stop!" but it's their sandcastle, so you can't really do anything about it.

Yeah it's always great when this happens with a reaction series. Having someone who can explain any in-jokes that go over others heads or clear up confusion so they don't spend ages talking about something unimportant/inconsequential really helps. Hell just being able to give them all the names of important characters is massive. Wish this happened more often honestly.

I think it was the watch party where Matt estimated 800,000 dead in that first attack alone. The cast said he looked almost shell shocked after that game, he said he'd just destroyed something he build.

Yup, it had been *years* of world building at the time. Nearly a year of the stream plus an additional few years of the private home game. Matt had built up Emon as well as the other cities the dragons are affecting this entire time, so Matt destroying it in such a catastrophic event was huge for everyone but especially Matt himself. He spent so much time designing and building this world and in one session destroyed it all.

800,000 makes more sense than 80,000. This is the capital of the entire continent, also Raishan probably killed entire blocks with her poison breath, with Umbrasyl dojng the same but less so. And then Thordak wipes out the core of the Emon garrison in that Godzilla blast. Also it'd have to be so many people dying for Vax to actually see the Matron of Ravens. EDIT: And when I say the Matrons of Ravens appearing, I interpret that less as her grooming him to be her champion, more that all of these people dying so suddenly weakened the barrier between worlds.

It’s more than just designing the characters and playing them in the traditional sense as an actor, they wrote those characters themselves. Their improvisation made all of the moment to moment choices which shaped this story. It’s theirs and only theirs.

For those wondering, as of this post here are the campaign lengths for Critical Role. Campaign 1 (of which Legend of Vox Machina is the adaptation of) is sitting at just over 459 hours long, counting the 115 episodes of the main campaign as well as the 3 epilogue bonus episodes that came out afterwards. Campaign 2 (which the recently announced Mighty Nein animated series will adapt) is at a hefty 566 hours spread across the 141 episodes and 2 bonus reunion episodes that came out afterwards. A third reunion is planned in the coming months. Campaign 3, the current campaign, is sitting at 275 hours so far as of the 70 episodes we've gotten to date, but this will grow each week with new episodes dropping each Thursday. For comparison, watching the entirety of the anime One Piece, including movies, would sit you around 450 hours. Watching all of the Simpsons is a mere 275 hours. Watching all of Dragonball, Z, and Super will set you at about 230 hours. Remember, these other shows tend to be 20-25 minutes long. Critical Role episodes average between 3-5 hours *each.* The Chroma Conclave, these dragons, are easily the best examples of the terrifying power of dragons I have ever seen. I fear them more than I do Smaug or any of the Game of Thrones dragons. There are 5 members in total. Brimscythe the Iron Storm, a blue dragon with lightning breath was defeated last season. The remaining 4 are Vorugal the Frigid Doom (white dragon with ice breath), Umbrasyl the Hope Devourer (black dragon with acid breath), Raishan the Diseased Deceiver (green dragon with poison breath, also the only female in the group) and Thorak the Cinder King (red dragon with fire breath). Dragons in D&D grow more powerful as they age. Brimscythe was a young adult, at around 100 years old or so. These other 4 are *ancient* at each of them around 800-1000 years old. They are vastly more powerful than Brimscythe was. Each of the four ancients could be the main villain of an entire campaign in and of itself, but this show threw four of them in.

I love your accurate recount of LOVM/Critical Role. The sheer amount of content is mind blowing. I remember the days of getting bullied for being the "XXX nerd" who actually played the red and blue, and green and black boxes. The power level of ancient dragons (in that game...) is often focused on high level player moments- the implications of what they can do is beautifully explored here.
@Holidaemon2516

Out of curiosity, are those hours the total lengths of each episode as presented on youtube, or is it counting just playtime? I feel like at least half an hour of each episode is dedicated to pre-game messages and the mid-game break. EIther way, it's still a massive amount of content, and campaign 2 alone would still be longer than each of the other pieces of media you talked about.

While you aren't wrong, it probably won't happen on the channel (though if they did it on their own, that would be good too). It's a lot of content and their schedule is already pretty packed as it is, not to mention the Mighty Nein show has already gotten greenlit by Amazon. That said, I would love to see them tackle EXU Calamity. Its short enough to be its own weekly slot for a single month, and it requires minimal prior knowledge save for the context given by season 2 of Vox Machina. Only other additional information that could be helpful would be the Exandria Intimate History video, which is only 10 minutes long

On the topic of not being able to keep up with the full campaigns. I 100% feel that. I'd suggest watching highlight videos of the episodes instead. You'll still experience the major moments of the campaigns, and its far less time-consuming. I'm watching "marisharaygun"'s campaign 3 highlights at the moment. They did the latter parts of campaign 2 as well. Its a totally valid way of enjoying the show if you don't have the time to watch the hundreds of hours of content :)

I spent a month, *a month* watching an episode a day to to finish the series, then immediately went on to campaign 2... which I then burnt out on after another month and ended at about episode 40. I REALLY need to get back into campaign 2, but it's such a chunk of time, and once I get there campaign 3 is gona be looming over me as well!

Agreed. I've only managed to get completely through campaign 2 myself, not including some of the shorter specials. As much as I enjoy CR, I do have a hard time recommending it to people because it's such a time commitment. The notable exception is EXU Calamity. Not only is it short, but it's some of the best D&D I've ever seen played.

I would do this but I'm already too far in to start watching highlights. I watched the ENTIRE campaign 1 including extra episodes, and am in episode 110 of campaign 2. It has been a really long process. I think I've been watching nearly 2 years if not more lol. I know it would be amazing to be able to catch up and have the hype of waiting every thursday for new episodes, but at this point I'm so committed I need to watch this the old fashioned way. If that means campaign 3 finishes before I do then so be it.

I was the Jake to my own friend group watching LOVM together! As the only one who had watched all of campaign 1, they all excitedly turned to me afterwards and asked questions. I was happy to add context, clarity, and fun facts. happy that the crew has Jake on their side for this season!

FINALLY!! This season is so good and I definatley reccommens watching some videos comparing animated series to campaign moments becuase they are so good and they really give people perspective and its really cool to see how they adapted those moments. Also, to note to you all, these came out in three episode batches and these first three premiered on my birthday...for those who know...know...

Law and Order, with its 456 episodes at roughly 45 minutes each, lasts about 319 hours. The second campaign of Critical Role, with its 141 episodes at roughly 4 hours each, lasts over 556 hours total, with almost 484 hours of pure game time. The Mighty Nein is indeed longer than Law and Order, and it was worth every second.

I'm so happy to see you guys do this. And for this show at least I like the fact you brought in a critter instead of the anime guy. Please don't take this as hate towards him I like him but for this show a critter is so much better.

Jake is a nice addition to the crew. I like how he is able to add things based on what they watched this episode (and last season), but more importantly is able to not say anything that is explained later in the season so the other three can still get raw reactions. :3
