You asked about the eyes on the White Dragon. That's True Sight. It's a magical trait that can be gained through various means (and is commonly in the innate magical abilities of various extremely powerful entities such as ancient dragons) that allows the being to see through various illusions and concealments with pretty much zero effort. It fits for Vorugal, the Frigid Doom because White Dragons have a very pronounced Prey Drive, so a significant portion of their power supplements their predatory natures. Same reason Vorugal was the perfect pick to go chasing after the refugees seeking shelter at Vox Machina's keep; prey running away just makes predators want to pursue. Dragons are inherently magical beings, and gain a slowly-expanding range of spell-like abilities as they age up... but they can ALSO learn more intentional forms of magic in the same way humans can (IE taking class levels in Wizard, Warlock, Bard, what have you). When Scanlan reacted to the Green Dragon Raishan, it was because she DISPELLED his Magic Foot, which suggests that on top of being an Ancient Dragon, she's at LEAST as accomplished a spell-caster as Scanlan himself. A lot of dragons don't bother diversifying their powersets like that, because just being a dragon is such a huge power advantage in most cases.

Uriel dying made me *so* sad. He's the only person that I would feel confident saying actually deserved to be a king, because when he realized there was an issue with him, he ceded the kingdom to the council, he stopped to help up the guard that fell instead of running to save himself, and died relieved to see his family was safe.

Fun note, Grog not being able to damage Raishan like that is actually a moment in the live stream show for Campaign 1. He rolled a 19 to hit her, and when Matt (the DM) told Travis (Grog's player) that it didn't hit, his jaw dropped. He then rolled a 22 on his second attack and that was what connected, but just barely, meaning her Armor Class (AC) is 22. Also, each of the Chroma Conclave has their own title: - Raishan the Diseased Deceiver (green dragon, poison breath). - Vorugal the Frigid Doom (white dragon, ice breath). - Umbrasyll the Hope Devourer (black dragon, acid breath). - Thordak the Cinder King (red dragon, fire breath, the leader) - And formerly, before Vox Machina killed him in Season 1, Brimscythe the Iron Storm (blue dragon, lightning breath, the youngest of the group, essentially a teenager in comparison to the other four).

Honestly the people of taldorei never had reason to fear a dragon attack of this scale because dragons normally hate each other. They are extremely possessive of their territory they have a strict hierarchy. So the older stronger dragons tend to do what they want whle younger weaker dragons obey their superior dragons. This is the first time dragons of multiple colors came together.

It's worth noting that although Red Dragons like Thordak are very powerful. Thordak himself is larger and stronger than even a normal ancient red dragon. It is also VERY unusual that these dragons are working together. Ancient evil dragons are incredibly territorial and extremely selfish. The fact that they're not actively trying to compete with each other for supremacy indicates that there is something very wrong going on.

Most Ancient Dragons can use magic, they also have legendary resistances (Shown when Allura wraps around Vorugal and he breaks the spell) which allows them to ignore the effects of a failed saving throw and allowing them to pass automatically. There are dragons that are more likely to use magic versus the others

Dragons in D&D age like a fine wine. The older the get, the stronger they become. For context, the Blue Dragon was an adult dragon, mid- teir in the Dragon-pecking order, with Ancients only being topped by their gods.

As someone who watched Campaign 1 of Critical Role all I can say is get ready because if you thought this was a lot the rest is going to be an emotional rollercoaster.

yeah, each color of dragon has a different breath weapon in D&D. Brimscythe from last season was a blue dragon and had lightning breath. White has ice, green has poison gas, black has acid, and red has fire. Also, Thordak is voiced by Lance Reddick, who played Charon (the hotel manager) in John Wick, Agent Broyles on Fringe, and the place that I know him from, Commander Zavala in Destiny/Destiny 2

Dragons are very magical in D&D. When a human turns out to be a sorcerer (someone who has the innate ability to cast magic instinctively), it's usually because one of their distant ancestors was a dragon and something "activated" that part of their bloodline. Human sorcerers are rare, but every dragon is a powerful sorcerer.

In D&D dragons are almost innately powerful, so much so that "draconic ancestry" is one of the most common sources of the class known as the sorcerer.

In the latest edition of Dungeons &Dragons dragons don't have spellcasting ability. However they did in previous editions and Matt played through those old editions like I did. So he gave some of the dragons spellcasting abilities in the edition of D&D they were playing (5th edition) and other abilities they used to have in older editions.

So yes, most dragons, especially older dragons, are able to use magic. Some even specialize in spellcraft, but most people don't know that about dragons. In fact, most people don't know much about dragons at all besides the basic folklore and scary campfire stories, so it's not surprising that the group would be caught off guard by that.

It was a shock watching Matt do this in real time during the campaign. It was so exciting and terrifying and a complete shock.

Dragons get more powerful the older they get and the more they acquire for their treasure horde. Not only that but they naturally imbue their lairs with their magic, which alters the land around it and creates obstacles/traps. The category of dragons is based off their age so its usually •Wyrmling (5 years or less) •Young (6-100) •Adult (101-800) •Ancient (800 to 1000) •Wyrm (1000-1200) •Great Wyrm (1200 years or more)

I'm sure you've already gotten all the names, but just in case: Thordak the Cinder King (red)- he's built different Raishan the Diseased Deceiver (green)- she's not like other girls Umbrasyl the Hope Devourer (black)- he's got black Air Force energy Vorugal the Frigid Doom (white)- he just loves killing

Black: acid, Blue: lightning, Green: poison gas, White: ice. Red is fire, but Thordak pulling an Azula is *not* the norm. Dragonbreath is an ability, the Silence spell would be useless. Brimscythe was a young dragon, these are ancient, hence the natural truesight and so on. Whitestone is pretty isolated, and hasn't had much contact with the outside world since the Briarwoods took over. It's unlikely the dragons are even aware of it...

2 answers... Raishan didnt know keyleth through brinsythes eyes. Raishan placed something in Brinsythes layer to be able to spy on either brimsythe or maybe intruders to Brimsythes layer. We wont truly know because brimsythe was from before the live games. But my guess is that Raishan didnt finny trust Brimsythe. Brimsythe was the youngest of the dragons to join the chroma conclave so it would make sense she either didnt trust him or trusted he would fuck up so she wanted to keep an eye on him is my guess. Then keyleth happens to stumble upon some like seeing stones or something and Raishan was on the other end. And all dragons know magic. Dragons by definition in d&d are "highly intelligent magical creatures." Not monsters. Not animals. And they are considered HIGHLY intelligent. Which means they can shrug off a lot of normal magic or just see through it. It was odd scanlan questioned them using magic. I guess they are going the route that knowing they are magical is only known if you studied them like vex has. On that... the only reason vex knows so much about dragons is because in d&d character creation guides typically have you pick an enemy or two that your character has studied and laura picked dragons for vex due to... spoilers.

Season 2 is SO GOOD!

There are a lot of monsters in D&D that despite their beastial appearance are actually quite intelligent enough to learn magic and perform spells. Like krakens; it's not enough to be so big they can swallow a galleon ship but some are able to control the weather, create storms, learn to breathe outside of water, and fly! And don't get me started on the fact that in the rulebook it doesn't say that they can't pilot vehicles if they find one big enough for them, if the DM's being sadistic... "Where's the other dragon?" Oh gee I have no idea...

Dragons are so, so cool and so, so scary.

To give you a bit of context, these are Ancient Dragons, typically the strongest type of dragons according to the Monster Manual (Child, Adolescent, Adult, Ancient) and are normally reserved for very high level player characters. I believe Brimscythe, The Iron Storm (Blue/Lightning), from the start of season 1 was but an Adult, maybe even a bit on the younger side of that designation. Effectively, it was the runt of the Chroma Conclave. You can picture how this event was never meant to be won now with 3 Ancient Dragons (White/Ice, Green/Poison, Black/Acid). Thorrdak (Red/Fire) is actually beyond even the Ancient designation... which umm btw.. Ancient Red Dragons are the most powerful kind from the Monster Manual... Matt just decided to go beyond that level with him. Granted I feel like newer additions may have gone past the Red Dragon now, but Critical Role has never seen stuff like Solar Dragons or any of the Gem Dragons.

Yeah in dnd (which this is based on) White dragons ice breather are the weakest of them all and are less intelligent black dragons the acid breathers are and I kid you not the most evil and sadistic of them all pain,misery,hunger,torment,and sadness are like flavours of ice cream to them green dragons the gas breathers are excellent liars they are so good at lying they could convince anyone to murder and then you have red dragons fire breathers they are the most powerful of them all and think them selfs as the only true dragons of the world
