it fascinates and disturbs me how much the innies are treated like children at a daycare. from the saccharine way that milchick speaks to them, the toys and prizes they get for doing their job, the games they play and events that are planned for them, the punishment of having to sit in a room and repeat something over and over, the way they call their superiors "mr" and "Mrs", even the name "innie" sounds childish.

6:06 The short answer is Yes. Each vault and there are literally HUNDREDs scattered throughout America, has its own unique Social, Biological or Technological experiment being conducted inside it. Two vaults, vaults 68 and 69, for example. In 68 there were 1000 men and one woman, in 69 there were 1000 women and one man. Another had completely see through walls, so same layout as vault 4 but the walls were see through. Needless to say they were all insane in their own way.
@glurgbarble7268Күн бұрын
There were a few "control vaults" that didn't have an experiment (like Vault 13, the vault the protagonist of the original game is from). When Barbara told Cooper she could get them into "one of the good vaults" she probably meant one of these instead of something like Vault 4. There were also a couple of vaults where either the residents mutinied or the overseer refused to follow orders (well, at least one, Vault 81) so the experiment never proceeded.

@04:19 Saw the edit, know that's not what you had in mind, but "Dog Whistle" is what popped into mine. Where a group or culture of people associate different meanings, associations, or feelings with specific terms. It provides a linguistical and emotional shorthand for the in-group. If that emotional shorthand is for fear, mistrust, and anger then you can also use it to filter for people who don't share the same beliefs. Mostly by impeding communication, but also with the threat of cognitive dissonance when internalized beliefs are challenged.

Roy's bird is a couple things. Thematically, it's his soul, so we can see it leave. In-world, it's part of Roy trying to process his new emotions. It's why all the replicants are so weird; they're trying to process emotions they've never had, trying to understand what emotions even ARE let alone what they mean. The way I always imagined it was that Roy saw the bird, thought it was pretty, but didn't know what to do with those feelings, so he just decided "I guess I'll bring this with me." Every time you see a replicant being weird, try to figure out what emotions they're struggling to process.

5:29 “Sometimes you gotta take a leap of faith.” Haha, ironically yes, as he’s a priest. Priests or anyone religious, are taking leaps of faith on some god or goddess that they don’t know if they really exist or not. Sein had to take a leap of faith in believing in our socially awkward elf goddess. 16:28 “Does he (Sein) want them to look older?” Yes. He’s saying “onee-san,” so it’s like a woman in her late 20s or 30s. In Western terms, it’s like he wants a MILF. Frieren, though physically over a thousand years old, looks like a young teen, which doesn’t turn him on.

10:25 That is the other side of "affirm" everything and be ultra supportive without even criticism. His initial words about Mut weren't even harsh but you had already judged the man based off a completely innocuous and purely objective assessment of his sons abilities at this time.

And yeah, there's basically three systems of magic in this setting. There's the magic monsters and demons use, including curses, that normally cannot be learned or comprehended by human magic (with some exceptions like the Zoltraak spell), goddess magic that requires both a copy of the scriptures and a innate blessing/talent to use any but the weakest spells of (and like curses, cannot be comprehended by humans) and finally human magic (including magic used by elves as they are considered part of "humanity" in this setting), which can be studied like a science.

16:31 Basically he's looking for someone who matches more the "sexy, mature woman" idea. Frieren lacks both the curves and the soft personality often associated with the "elder sister" (a more literal translation of what they translate as "older lady") archetype

That demon is terrifying. It doesn't seem to be good or evil and doesn't seem to care, it just does it's job, which is being a demon and torturing souls. It's just like a force of nature, an earthquake or tornado. 0.0 That's terrifying. The soul consumption and vomiting is nightmarish

Honestly great reaction (and content overall!) - you're one of the only reactors I've seen who loves Law & Order enough to get how perfectly this episode is put together. It's also written by one of my favourite comedy writers - Megan Ganz - she worked on The Onion, then Community and currently works on Always Sunny in Philadelphia (she's the woman on the podcast they had running after Covid). Great stuff :)

He gave Frieren true love and the only battle he could not win was his battle against time. If you look back in this episode the thing that was literally separating them was the clock. How could he tell her he loved her when her time is so much longer than his? Imagine how much that could potentially hold frieren back the rest of her life. He didn't want to be a potential shackle and instead of confessing he seemingly sprinkles his ways of affection in throughout their time together probably knowing that Frieren wouldn't ever understand during his lifetime. He loved her anyways despite never truly telling her how he felt.
