I'm a guitarist, but synths have always fascinated me, and seeing how happy and excited you are in these videos, along with providing tons of great information, makes this channel a truly hidden gem of YT. Thanks for making great content!

Your synthesizer videos really are a cut above the rest. I never get tired of these, even when it's talking about stuff I already know

Thanks for the kind feedback! It's always hard to say something new about these machines but be honest - did you know how to make the sound of an old London Underground train coming out of the tunnel?

Hours of watching people popping patch cables in and out without any explanation and getting nowhere on how to actually use this thing and you just showed me everything to get started, thank you! this is just what I needed.

Hope you get it going ok! Maybe I should have explained the voltage paths more, but the vid was already too long.

I just got my own recently many many years late, and I love it! Nice to see so much enthusiasm still for this wonderful synth.

Thanks! I'm OK with old stuff, but some of the new flashy machines... argh!

I absolutely love your enthusiasm. And there are some nice little tips and tricks there too. I've had the Behringer clone for about a year now and each time I watch someone do something, I learn something new. Such a versatile little beast.

This tutorial is so clear and easy to follow....the way you discribe complicated things in a logical and easy understandable way is gold worthy. I have to thank you for your enthusiasm and joy you give to all of us. Best info was the little arrow from EG1 to the controll input I haven't seen before...thanks a lot!

Lovely review of this machine! The flute sound is lovely

Yours is a genius presentation style. I never understood this machine although it was possibly the first synth I played ... in Hessy's Liverpool in the 70's as a school boy. My first synth (some will think it was a luxury, but I needed a poly and ... it just happened) was a Yamaha CS60, but it never gave me the bonkers sound or the ability to learn synthesis that this synth obviously does. Nowadays I have some coveted gear (The big Roland, Oberheim and Prophet polys and monos - classic later Korg gear too), but I never got the chance to really understand what this synth was about and why it impressed me so much back when I couldn't play a note worth listening to. You've taken me right back and I appreciate it. You're the kind of guy I'd like to buy a pint and chat synths with 'till dawn. Thank you. Stellar stuff 🤣☺️😉😎👍👌

Just got my ms20 a few days ago and have been playing around with it. Loved following along with your patches and learning more cool things it can do! I actually created that random note generation by accident the other night and was scrambling trying to figure out how I managed it because i ripped it out without taking a picture. Thank you for settling my mind there. You make a great teacher! I must say having a camera is so funny to me cause back in the day you poor guys had to write it all down I reckon? Haha

Back in the 1980's I used the MS20 to make a ghostly train bell effect for a show. I wish I'd written down how I did it! I still have the effect on tape, but I've never managed to make a bell sound as spooky as that!

Well, I was looking for MS-20 patch vids and found this - you, sir are a legend. In fact, your Science in Action 'Good Vibrations' programme was one of the catalysts for getting into music/gear in the first place. All the best.

I've only just come across this video. How I wish I'd found it four years ago when it was posted. I've not seen a video nearly this good on programming the MS 20. Second place goes to Estuera's 'making an electro track with just an MS-20'.

Great vid. Thank you very much. I collect my ms20 mini tomorrow. First ex will be dive bombiing!!! How you can remember what wire goes where and what is does is rocket science to me. Wel, I suppose its obvious... The EG wire from the Veggie A goes into the controlled voltage of the LFO which triggers the sync out whilst also comparing the voltage from the US toggle facility and then obviously channelled through the VCA which then triggers Winnie the Pooh!,,, Childs play! Pete

I loved this video and your passion for this synth. Is there any way to play the filter with this? I've been trying to figure out a patch that will let me do that. The sine wave on this synth is so nice sounding. So rounded and fat and I'd love the ability to play it but the patch bay illudes me 😂 Cheers mate.
@murderousmaths Жыл бұрын
The filter does have the most wonderful clear tone! You can keyboard track it by setting the controls at the bottom of the panel, otherwise if your machine has a filter input you could play it with an external controller such as a sequencer.

Hi Kjartan, Phil MT of D.U.S.T. here! Love the synthesizer videos. Didn't you build one as an Engineering project at Uni? Do you still have it? Ah, take me back to Selby, central Yorkshire... Best wishes.
@murderousmaths5 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil! Actually I'd already built the synth, what I tried to build in 1977 was a sequencer. Some of the circuit boards are hanging high on the wall up above the MS20 as decoration! Hope all's good with you...

@murderousmaths5 жыл бұрын
If you want to work with a PC then you're best getting a synth with midi - not one of these old analogue machines! However the new MS-20 mini does have midi so if you can find a showroom with one to try, I suggest you start there! Good luck.

You mean the guitar? Gibson SG certainly and probably around that period. I'd just done a long set of gigs, saw it in a shop with the cash on me and we eloped.
