See i came up with a very helpful strategy on the 3rd phase, its super simple and it makes it real quick. Don't tap the Y button, slide you finger up and down across the Y button and it really helps, try it next time

Do you want help on beating him? I realized that you need to quite literally rubbed the Y button until you get a blister on your thumb, pressing on it doesnt help. RUB THE Y!!

It's very validating seeing others struggled with the second mash; I tried beating him for an hour straight and got so mad I tore my DS in half... it was the limited edition Triforce Gold version 😭

I remember the first time I got to the part were you have to mash Y, I got by the first part just fine but wen he launched it back I had to ask my dad to help me out, and that's how my first playthrough of starfy came to a close Its memories like that that keep you coming back to such a wonderful game and I'm glad it was part of my childhood, heck I still love it to this day! :D

Trying to beat this boss as a kid, I literally had to pause the game during the button mash part just to give my thumb intervals to breathe. That was actually the tactic that worked. I’m surprised the game even let me pause during that segment. I wanna go back to the game if I can find it and try to beat it again 10 years later

My tiny little 8 year old hands were just too weak; I had to close my ds to pause the game several times cause my hand would get tired. By the the time I finally beat him, it had gone completely numb. I still remember how fucking intense that was.

I remember my parents bought 2 copies of the Legendary Starfy so we wouldn't fight over the game since we both had our own DS'. The copy my sister had was a new one and I had a used one. In the used one the previous owner had unlocked almost everything (Minus stage 10) so my sister decided to try the boss rush. I remember showering when my family heard her screaming and they rushed in and she came into the bathroom at full force: MASHTOOTH HAS A SECOND PHASE AND IT'S A DIAMOND IN THE MIDDLE!!! Proud to say that after 5 years I finished the second save file completely, Finished the Diamond, and now am suffering in world 10 because I'm not a speedrunner

There was a trick I always used to beat the part where you needed to spam y to win. I would always keep one finger in the start button to pause the game at any time to rest and I’d keep my thumb/strongest finger on the y button. The strategy never failed.

If they will one day make Smash 6, they should include both of Mashtooth’s theme (both “Showdown with Mashtooth” and “The Final Battle” combined into one remixed track) as one of its music tracks (my guess: the remix will be a dark orchestral version of “Showdown with Mashtooth” followed by a heavy metal remix of “The Final Showdown”).
