Exactly! I don’t wear makeup or buy a bunch of shoes or purses. I let my hair grow long; still pretty, yet saves money. Paper craft supplies bring me lots of joy and they are worth it! :) Thanks for the tip on travel journal inserts. They sound very user friendly!

Girl, I could have made this video for you! I have so much. I started a bullet journal 5 years ago with Erin Condren, quickly realized I can’t draw, swam in the seas of the TN (both sizes) only to give all my money to Hobonichi. The problems of multiple books still haunted me. My purse was a monster to carry! Even now that I work from home, I still carry 2 journals. It’s madness but you just cannot sustain the lie that you need so much! Keep yourself organized, remember how your day went, and find some other hobbies. Remember journals and pens and stickers and bags yada yada are a reflection of you!

This is so fun to watch!! Currently, the lies I tell myself are more fountain pen inks (which leads to wanting more pens so i can use all the inks)... and the TNs are in my radar, I have been so good telling myself I don't need it.. but I can feel I am about to give in anytime this year haha! Again with the inks... i am anout to fall into the hobo weeks or a6techo at least because i want to have an ink journal! But to answer your question - it really does brings me so much joy. I usually say, I'd rather indulge in these than pay a hefty fee to see a psychiatrist 😅

But that goes for all hobbies - in fact, part of the fun of a hobby, whether it's knitting, painting, makeup, crafting... is trying out interesting new materials. Every hobby contains an element of collecting. If one realizes it and knows it gives him pleasure and can afford it, what's the problem? Actually, that's the goal.

Great video. I think we all catch ourselves in those lies. And it goes on with stickers, Washi tape, stencils, stamps, … But it’s a great hobby, journaling is so good for mental health, we get benefits from the hobby, not just the empty wallet. I‘m waiting on 25 ink samples, hehe. I‘m starting my first bujo this year in a dotted notebook, we‘ll see how it goes.

Completely true! 😂 I have a ton of ink samples I don’t think I will ever go through. I asked for the inkvent calendar for my birthday (in December) and now I have more! 😂 I went from Bullet Journal to Happy Planner and all the stickers and now I’m back to bullet journaling. I did get a Travelers type set up as well but have yet to use it.

the lies we tell ourselves 😆 this video speaks to me! 2023 is the year where I tell myself: when I'm almost done with my journal deco so that I can buy new stickers! 😅 I also have two inks I bought years ago and I have yet to finish them and once I'm done, I'm buying a fountain pen for writing and new inks I would really use. But people giving you more stuff that you enjoy is a concern coz no space to put them (like what you said in the video) 😅

I really feel this video...2023, the year of health and change. I have decided to box up all my pens, pencils, and notebooks, only keeping those that I felt I would benefit the most from. My TN regular and TN passport, my Platinum 3776 w/Carbon Black ink and my Kaweco Brass w/DeAtramentis Document Black ink, and a Kuru Toga 0.5 pencil w/2B lead. I have to say I did buy a Lamy 2000, but that was something I had on hold for me before I made this decision, so...My goal is to break this FOMO habit and get back to really enjoying what using the tools. Maybe get rid of some of the boxed up things.

It is so true! I fell in love with journaling, creative journaling and Bullet journaling in 2019 when I got pregnant with my son. Since then trying, experiment new and beautiful things for my journals has become a real passion. Like you there aren’t other things that I buy for myself that I don’t really need. Sometimes I would like to have the time to ‘’play’’ more with all the beautiful creative stuff that I already own but in the meantime can’t stop being interested and fell in love with new things I really would like to stop and become a minimal creative person but I am simply too curious and I find it So difficult. Hope to ‘heal’ soon! Anyway yes all this things make me joy and make me feel that I really can choose what I want to use depending on my mood and needs and this gives me a sense of freedom that I really need in this moment of my life…

I prefer to think of myself as a curator of a well-rounded collection. 😂

Really enjoyed your video. Oh, my gosh, I started with one pen too. That grew so rapidly I had to get a place to store them. Ink! Vanness has 4ml samples. You can guess how that went. Oh my, then storage for them-ammo boxes. You have to have journals. I can relate to all of this. But so much fun!

100% can relate to all this. I only need one, I said. It’ll be fine, I said. I’m kinda tempted to make a response per category on IG, but we’ll see. I did keep a work/personal bullet journal between 2018-2021 and then switched to split journals. My current work journal is just for notes and task tracking and migration. I fell off the bujo train when I was doing too much work for it. 😢 But I also channel that creativity into my snail mail. Only have time for making so many beautiful things.

hahaha so laughed with this video. So recognizable!!! and not only with journal stuff, fountain pens and ink, but also with washi, stickers, markers. Oops! In 4 years, 1/3 of my bedroom has been turned into a craft corner. filled with lots of paper, markers, washi, etc My journals do always stay at home. use them as daily journal ( full within 2 or 3 months) , sticker/washi journal, tracker journal ( monthly trackers for postcrossing, mail, etsy sales) No idea so how many fountain pens I have, but must have 1 for each ink . + and dippen with multiple shimmer inks.

Guess what? Now you need the special little binders to archive your stack of finished inserts! lol

I went through something very similar last year but I went through the happy planner first n spent so much money on it and now I use it for work but I have all 3 sizes and bought so many things I don’t use. Right now for personal use I use an A6 folio with a weekly modori insert and a half year stalogy for dailies and tracking….but I have already purchased 5 leather A6 covers! And they r not cheap either. And I got into fountain pens and inks too…aye aye aye. I need to use and enjoy what I have this year! I have a lot to play with and am not gonna beat myself up, just make better choices 😊.

What do without our journals. I had three Filofaxs 2 from a very old work place. I had a fire over 12 years ago. And I lost all of them. Now 12 years later I have just one. Just replace out the dairy.

Yeah! I'm not in the same situation because I've been bullet journaling for 9 years and I have a few more journals and planners than you. But I'm purely a functional planner. But I always attempt to understand the mind of a planner. Bravo to you planner sister for this very candid and impactful realization.

The lie I tell myself. "I don't need to watch one more video." And here I am. I'm still trying to figure out just what is bullet journaling? I'm not a planner, but us in the fountain pen community feel the same way. I'm curious though how did all you planners get into fountain pens?

PS. Just wait until you tell yourself that you only need *one* really good gold-nib fountain pen….

I have been making a concerted effort to stop believing the lies. I have 9 gold nibbdd pens, and my most expensive is $750CAD. The other two before it were $500 cad. Then the other one I won, a Pelican m400 ltd. edition tortoiseshell. $600 USD to buy. Then there are 5 other gold nibbed pens, $300 Cad and under. 9 Gold tipped pens, followed by 11 other pens over $200 cad each, msking up 20 of my best pens. I didnt start there though. I started my collecting of chinese and japanese pens like Jinhao, and Hongdian, a huge rabbit hole of functional smooth affordable pens at $20 each when I started. Then added Penbbs and twsbi's at $70 US I do not need so many pens!! I have collected 86 pens aside from the 20 good pens. I don't want to go into the inks I bought in FULL 80 ml. size I didn't even like. They are in boxes under my bed. Yet I bought 2 purple inks because the only purple ink I had was too dark. I needed a lilac coloured ink for my latest Jinhao I loved. I have bought many pens I didn't love but just settled for. I know I have "wants disease" and God is my only cure! "Thou shall not covet" is one of the 10 commandments. We keep trying to fill our lives with things which make us happy for a while then something newer and nicer ALWAYS comes along. We keep filling the unhappiness hole in us and will till the day we die, bevause that hole is missing what belongs there that will always satisfy, God's love through Jesus Christ. Ask God to show you if this is true in you! I saw it in me! I can't be the only one in a world of collectors, when people collect all things. Never getting filled. Consider and ask yourself why?

With all those inks -you need more pens that take larger amounts of ink!

Now I’m just trying to hold myself back from buying a second… I went from no TNs to 3 TNs in about a month. And I keep holding back from moooore! Also fountain pens. Got into em last year and fell hard and fast. Now I have like 30. Sigh.
