When I was living in Gainesville FL I was a waitress at some of the bars that Tom Petty had started playing music. His photos of him and his fans were everywhere. Not one person said anything but positive compliments about Tom Petty and what a great person he was to them. No ego or head trip. Just a humble Florida native. I think that Don Felder who was shafted unfairly by the Eagles said that he gave Tom Petty some guitar lessons and he picked it up pretty soon.

Tom and I were both born in October of 1950. We were both inspired by The Beatles performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. I played drums in several bands in the 1960’s and 70’s. I did not continue along that path but had a successful engineering career. Tom and I both had a fractured hip. However, I got mine fixed. So I am still here and healthy at 73 years old. We were both Beatles fans. But I was a fan of his. Always loved his music and was very sad to not have him around anymore. R I P my fellow Libra.

The first time I heard of Tom Petty was back in 1979 in San Francisco. I was 11 years old and listening to my mom's roommate's stereo. I don't recall which radio station it was, either KSFX or KRQR, but the DJ announced that the next song he was about to play was a callobaration by Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty. I remember thinking to myself, who's Tom Petty? Let me tell you, to this very day, 'Stop Dragging My Heart Around' is among one of the best songs ever penned to paper. And as they say, the rest is history. Tom was/is a legend in his own right. Thank you Tom for all the beautiful songs. May you rest in peace Tom Petty. 🤘😎👍🇺🇸

Describing him as a national treasure is appropriate. The first concert I ever attended was TP at the UCSB Event Center, Goleta, CA, in 1979. That's a great way to start going to live music shows. His music is and will always be very special to me. I know many others feel the same way. Gone way too soon. RIP.
