@M C That's what they said about jazz.. Rock n Roll... hip-hop... metal... movies... comic books... books... literally everything popular throughout history at one time or another. Kids have listened, read, consumed, and played inappropriate things since entertainment was a thing (so, forever). And everytime, old curmudgeons ramble about how it's terrible, and how their music was so much better. Your parents did it. Your grandparents did it. Their parents and grandparents, and so on. Such is art, and growing up in a cultured society.

Kimberlee Ponson Pink Floyd was like this too, the live performances were much longer because of the guitar solos, or even keyboards or everything combined, truly shows how great artists are when they can extend their music live.
@realguy640
@realguy640 7 жыл бұрын
yes, and in a studio, Prince can do a Pink Floyd favorite by HIMSELF. That is praising Floyd, as their music live was so magical. This video when it came out shocked a lot of casual fans, but I always knew he could play like this, and better - if you listen to most of his work, he is a very emotional player with masterful sense of vibrato and bends, and this song was made for him to hit out of the park. Clapton is a huge fan, and he must have LOVED it. PRINCE IS AN ALL TIME GREAT. BUt none of the all time greats has mastered all the instruments and can play as many styles as Prince, plus sing and dance? No one comes close.

An understatement :) whoever thought of asking Prince to do this needs a medal on so many levels, its a lovely nod to George (both were creative and experimental songwriters), a nod to Eric's original solo which was in itself a 'step out' for the Beatles, it brings attention to this great song once again, it shows Prince as a more consummat artiste alongside respected contemporaries and as an individual guitar player... I could go on but you get the idea. 35 million views cannot be wrong.

@@paulywalnuts5008 I'm straight up gonna assume he really didn't mean it or something happened between them after the performance that led to Dhani making those comments because DURING the performance everyone and ESPECIALLY Dhani enjoyed the performance; smiling like hell.

I love prince's music, but I can see what George's son might have thought. The throwing of the guitar up in the air at the end was a bit elitist, if that's the appropriate word, and was kinda like Prince saying "Ok I'm the big star. Now I'm gonna walk off because my work is done here". He is a superstar obviously, but there are one or two other guys on stage that are pretty OK too. BTW, where did the guitar go? Didn't see it come down! (unless it bounced off Dhani's head and that's why he was annoyed).

I think the best thing about this track is that Prince was snubbed from Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists list shortly before this performance. He also never rehearsed this guitar solo, making it one of the coolest things in Rock history!

Of course Prince rehearsed this many times. Just on his own. How do you think anyone gets good on an instrument?

@@HitmanJake2113 It’s in a case at Paisley Park! 😉. His guitar tech or one of the crew was by the stage and caught it. He’d frequently throw his guitar and someone would be there to catch it. But it did work perfect on this view because it does seem to disappear.

Agreed a hundred-fold, not only did George respect Prince's playing he said he was the best. So to have a Dad fave play his part in this incredible song and have Prince go God mode on it must've been gospel to young Harrison.

Also Tom Petty who's struggling to keep a straight face when Prince is propped up from the crowd in front of him and is laying down some crazy stuff :) Petty's also urging him on soon after, so much for the much-discussed battle of egos ...

Jeff Lynne (ELO) is one of the most versatile musicians and producers ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest. Lynne didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco. Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world....

He was an undisputed genius. However, his music got very samey and bland after Diamonds And Pearls and his songs were usually about the same thing - how sexy and funky he was. His best songs were written for other people. He peaked for me when he did Sign O The Times. He should have done more political songs. He would have got even more kudos.

@classicrockfan8034
@classicrockfan8034 4 ай бұрын
From the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame: Jeff Lynne, ELO’s vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, founder, and frontman, conceived of a rarefied musical sphere in which cellos coexisted with guitars, and where classically tinged progressive rock intersected with hook-filled, radio-friendly pop. Picking up where the Beatles left off, ELO expanded the concept of great melodies, epic song structures and grand orchestrations. ELO added an exciting mix of elements into rock and roll. Imagine a marriage of tuneful, rocking pop songs with instruments from the symphonic realm, and you’ve got the blueprint for what made ELO one of the most popular groups of the 1970s and beyond. The result: ELO’s boundary-breaking approach to rock that resonated with a global audience, both as a pop singles act and as album-oriented rockers with deep-track appeal.
