5:50 the guard signed help. This show uses American Sign Language, so people who understand ASL have a bit of an advantage to knowing what is signed between Amaya and others.

Because sign language is much more then the basic alphabet. There are different hand signals for different words, they dont just spell out words they use hand signals for words or phrases. They could have also tweaked it a little to make it unique to where Amaya is from and for easier animating

Aye. Her being mute would have made more sense; as she utters no audible voice at all in the series; which a deaf person can still do, if quite a bit off key. Would've been interesting too; as mute recurring characters are quite rare in stories.
