Death was ashamed of himself, hating to have to kill beautiful things. All he wanted was friends and fun. The deer helped Death realize that nobody is angry at him, and that letting his friends move on is caring for them.

He wasn't ashamed of himself. He just realized that he held the power of taking life with one touch of his hand. And it's not that he wanted that power, in fact you could see that he struggled with it, but it was his task and he understood it and knew what it meant. In the end, he reluctantly gave rest to his best friend, and felt the grief of it. I think if I had to think of it in a spiritual sense I could imagine G-d loving us just as death loved the little deer. But like death, G-d realizes that He must deliver us to our death. Though it hurts, he does it. But it doesn't mean He doesn't love us. It's simply our time.

I wouldn't call it a moral -- that would constitute right and wrong -- and while the thought is poignant, and certainly romantic (in the actual sense of the word), it does seem a rather cliché platitude, and personally, I would think it arrogant to not fear death: there is nothing wrong with being terrified of finality.

Notice how all of the other animals lay down immediately and fell into slumber the moment Death touched them, but in the deer's case, at 3:40 it did not, as Death (I guess) himself don't accept it, but seeing the deer tolerating the pain, Death hugged it with acceptance and peace. Just a realization that made me cry even more.

Death loomed over her. Over the many years that it followed her she got closer and closer to it. Sleeping along side her, being with her while she ate, and watching over her family. Over time she grew old, weary, or sick. She knew it was time... As her family left the forest to graze she stopped. Pausing only for a moment and looked back to the death that had watched over her. She walked towards it calmly. She had lived her life; with understanding and trust she embraced death. The friend that would come for her and all that followed.

In my opinion, the character of "Death" touches the animals not to kill them but because he wants to touch something, to play, to have an embrace. This is clearly evident when he touches the flower and it withers immediately, shocking him. So in the end, the deer chooses him to touch and give him the embrace he was seeking. It was time for her to die. This is apparent because the deer seems to tremble and not be well when the others depart. Very, very touching from every perspective.

Death is sad because we’ve cultured it to be sad. Obviously because loved ones are no longer with us, but we choose to look at our own loss and rather than celebrate the life they’ve lived and moved on from, and rarely look at it as peaceful end to pain. Almost seems self-centred and egocentric, really. I like Neil Gaiman’s Death as portrayed in the Sandman comics; young, pretty, friendly, intelligent, warm, and reassuring rather than a dark and foreboding being. If you’ve never read it, I highly recommend the series.
@d.fiammata538
@d.fiammata538 2 жыл бұрын
@@travisjg80 It is indeed self centered. But we literally can't call these people up any more to catch up on things, to shoot the breeze. And the ache in our hearts sometimes never ever subsides until the day finally arrives in which we may join them--usually not soon, usually not today. So what are we to do but be sad? Yes, yes, our roles now as survivors are to go out and to gather more stories with which to bring to the afterlife and to share with our loved ones. But upon forming each story the instinct is to share it--now!--and the one for whom it's designated can no longer respond.

People comment how this is very sad, but to me it is bittersweet. The doe lived a full, happy life, and death garnered some happiness in the same period. When it was time to go, the doe accepted its death, said goodbye, and went out on its own terms with someone(thing?) that cared for it. There was a life well lived, a death well had, and happiness shared. To me, that is bittersweet.

So death lost its friend, it also gained a happiness it likely had never felt before thanks to the time it had spent with the doe. That was what I meant when I said it was bittersweet. It reminds me of the quote: 'It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.'

Life asked Death, “Death, why do people love me but hate you?” Death responded, “Because you are a beautiful lie and I am the painful truth.”We all want to live forever, but we are constrained by the life of the universe itself-the stars and the galaxies will eventually die, too. In order for new life to begin,another life must have to be able to pass,hence the circle of life.

One for sadness one for love one for hope one for family and one for the joy that this film brought me.🙂 And to anyone out there who is reading this comment thank you for taking a moment of your time after this video to read my thoughts on this amazing short film. I believe the deer died because it was at the end of its life. The deer went through seasons and in the spring, it had reached its limit. That's why it didn't go after the other deer, but turned back to embrace the inevitable. Death.

Definitely, you can just see it in the deer's body language. The way its legs shake and how it holds its head low. It was tired and dying.

Copper Bunnies Well wolves are social animals and it was all alone so maybe it was weak and at its time? The bunny also seemed weak with the way it looked sad and hung its head low, like it was struggling to eat the grass.. or maybe I’m just looking to much into it lol

I love how you made the Death so nice and gentle, shows how he doesnt mean to do harm to anyone, he just does what hes meant to. Even tho he makes the animals die, he does it as gently as he can. Also you can see how every single time he feels bad for the animals that die, but its just their destiny, its just time for them to go. And he learned about it later thanks to the deer he loved so much. He didnt want to hurt it, but it accepted that its time for it.
