@@eddo_2169 you should remember though that that is an ending added in because people thought the old and imo truer story was too tragic, so they had to give an ending where Isaac survives, and for Edmund and his coworkers, this had unfortunately ruined what they originally wanted to keep the story as (or at least I infer this coming from one of the coworkers saying "let them have it" in response to people wanting a better ending.) Before repentance, the events of the game were Isaac going insane due to loss of oxygen within his chest, and roughly all the endings along with different details in the game support that. Oh, and MatPat already made a whole video for afterbirth just to seeing if there was an ending where Isaac had survived. And now... this all had kind of gotten screwed since the plot transformed into "no Isaac is not dead, *this was a story made by him and his father, Isaac is alive and well"*

@@heatherperleberg7816 it's super fucking complex, but here are some over-simplified theories: 1-He hid there to escape from his mom 2-He hid there to play with his imagination and got trapped this second one is way more complex than "haha murderer mom go brr" because it implies that his mother was never even violent towards Isaac, yes, she failed to take care of him, and took her religion to an alarming point, but that is because she was dealing with the pain of being abandoned by her son's father, who had a drinking/gambling/both problem.

He might have been fictional, but the issues and conflicts that Isaac and his parents had are very real, and is unfortunately the reality of countless children all over the world, regardless of nationality or religion. Everyday there are many children who probably go through the same stuff as Isaac did, feeling like their parents arguing or divorce is their fault, many more are assaulted or abused by their parents. Their are multiple cases of a child taking themselves off the census because of the stress/trauma/depression they’re put through by their parents. Sometimes, the parents don’t even realize that they’re hurting their child, others don’t even care. It’s honestly heartbreaking to know that stories like Isaac’s are happening all the time. We called CPS and they did jack crap. the girls had bruises and belt marks on them and the CPS working didnt even acknowledge them, she didnt even walk through the door! Because of the alcohol addiction the father shows in these types of flashbacks for the player to see, plus the gambling addiction as it seems, and even after stealing money from her without even asking, he leaves them and with that, the mom went nuts because one of the two persons she loved dissapeared all of a sudden without any previous advice and thus, making her crazy about her religion and believing "God" speaked to her and said "Kill your son" to prove her will for doings thing in the name of the "Lord", lady was probably attached so much to her ex husband she felt so depressed she created her own allucination in where that previously said voice was God, her own representation of the God she believed in said "Kill your son" because when some mothers don't find a apropiate reason to think it was both the husband and the wife's fault they blame it on their son/daughter when they didn't even participated on the fights they both had, and as a way to "fix" the problem, she thought killing her son will return her husband, or maybe she was crazy enough to think killing Isaac will fix any problem she had, but deep down maybe it isn't even the principal reason and Isaac invented all the stuff to a way to see things with his own deppression, first think about her mom being bad because she "tries to kill him" and hides on a chest, but later he believes it is his fault and stays there to die lonely in a weird and bizarre invented world and before he dies, he has a flashback when things were good, when he was happy and invented everything we see when we finish the game, and invented that one "good" ending that shows Isaac's mom caring and loving her son, and after dying and her mother finding what is left of Isaac's body, it shows that the mother was really suffering.

Isaac never had a choice on what to believe, and all the stories his mother told him led him to imagine all the stuff we see in the game. Pretty hardcore stuff for a child innit? So i'm pretty sure the ed's intention with this game was to criticize religion, not endorse it lol

Honestly, I think it's up to the user to really determine the ending that makes them happiest. Do you want to believe Edmund? Yes, you can. But no one's gonna crucify you if it makes you happier to imagine that Isaac never died, and it was some grim imagination of Isaac's Even if you do believe the creator, there's still a bright side to it. He was always blaming himself for Dad leaving and Mom becoming aggressive and obsessed with God. All of these things, well, they were out of his control. In the end, he got clarity- the truth. We'll never know what was really on dad's note. A confession to his mother? A letter to Isaac, wishing he could've been better? Journal entry? Who knows. Whatever it is, it seemed to put Isaac's soul at rest. He could've died believing he was the root of all evil. It would've been a much, much bitter end. At least this DLC softens that blow, even if it still hurts. In the end, I don't think there will ever exist a finer ending for a game like Isaac.

The final boss I think was a hallucination or something. So saying that ending where it is a story is just a dead Isaac imagining something he deserved, but never got.

Sadly he is still super dead as Edmund himself clarified. But now unlike in the other endings, he accepted it and went straight to heaven without feeling bad about everything anymore. Personally I think that instead of talking to his father at the end, he is telling his story to THE Father himself, if you get what I mean. Poor guy finally gets the rest he deserves.
