What interests me the most about Rome is that it was more centered around Rome itself rather than all of the territories it conquered. I don't view Rome as a nation or even an Empire so much as a "City Nation" shall we call it.

If your country was part of the Roman empire then your ancestors were Roman. Romans wasn't just Italians. If you look up the legions online you will find that Rome recruited all over the empire and named some legions after the area of where they were recruited like Hispania.

I believe that the legacy of Rome goes far beyond simply ancestry. The whole western world has the legacy of Rome in some way.
