@@mediakira6621 Too true. The Moments between the two characters in this film feel so realistic. Feelings of pent up frustration and anger would provoke long scoldings we get from each of the characters when they boil over, the other would either respond by being taken aback and be like "lol calm down your having a moment" or get angry back and then they would rant over each other, like they do in other parts of the film.

The moment when you realize that Pattinson's changing, shifting accent isn't poor acting, but a very clever choice by the actor. You can tell he (the character, Winslow) is trying to disguise his original accent (the more new yorker sounding one) with the more Welsh sounding one he has for most of the film. Whenever he gets angry with dafoe you can tell his fake accent slips. He's trying to disguise his true identity.

Notice the change in Winslow’s accent, I believe over the course of the movie it changes intentionally to show how much he’s mirroring Tom, and even at the end quotes him. I believe Winslow doesn’t even know who he is and adapts his personality to those he interacts with as well as the people he kills.
@stilllife3213 жыл бұрын
I think so too! Some notice and criticize how Pattinson did different accents in some parts yet with how the story unfold it make sense (since he was pretended as Winslow), with how good and consistent Pattinson with different accents in his other movie (like Good Time) i believe it was intentional.
@azechase65972 жыл бұрын
The main accent he does is a pretty good representation of a mainer accent though. I'd know bc I live in Maine.

Dafoe was so brilliant here too. That subtle smile at 2:24…one of sinister intrigue, like he’s almost impressed and excited to hear him vent, all with one quick look. Also, anyone else obsessed with that pause Pattinson did before he shook the shelf again and said goddamn farts! Love that!

The fact that Robert Pattinson was not nominated for an Oscar for this is an example of how lowbrow we have become in America. But yeah, it's THAT GOOD!
@gbner99914 жыл бұрын
How can you think he deserves an Oscar for this scene? It just look so forced, especially around 2:07. It looks like an actor acting, this is probably his worst scene in the movie.

This movie feels like it’s straight out of an Edgar Allen Poe story. Strangely enough, this movie takes inspiration from an unfinished poem written by him under the same name. A popular theme in Poe’s stories is gaslighting, making the reader question which perspective is more reliable. In this scene we ask ourselves, is Wake really trying to set up Howard, or is Howard crazy?
