"Scar" is really an upgrade of a name from his given name. His parents named him Taka, which means 'Trash' in Swahili. Mufasa, meanwhile, means 'King' in Manazoto. His hatred of his brother is well earned.
@dariusbrock2713
@dariusbrock2713 2 ай бұрын
Which is kinda sad. Because when it comes to real lions, brotherhood is the most valuable and cherished relationship between them. If the movie was realistic, Scar and Mufasa would've been fiercely loyal, and more than willing to die for each other. Because even though lion brothers sometimes fight for dominance, it is never lethal, and it doesn't affect their love for each other. Lion fathers and uncles exile them on puberty, their mothers and aunts let it happen, and their wives will mate with the next lion that beats them. But his brother will live, hunt, fight and eat by his side all the time.

One of my favorite parts is when Timon, Pumba and Nala catch up with Simba after he returns. Timon expresses his doubt over the pride lands, and simba confirms that it’s his home. This is the GREATEST Disney movie ever made. I don't know if they can ever top this one. And it was made by the B Team of animators too. Disney thought Pocahontas was going to be their big movie that year and tried really hard to push for it to be in contention for academy awards and all that. I never hear people talk about Pocahontas at least not on the same level as Lion King. And usually when i do people talk about how it was oscar bait and that's it. Minus the colors of the wind song no one cares for the movie it seems. Its crazy how jr. animators made such a genuine masterpiece.

I wouldn't judge by the mane. Even Mufasa's mane was ginger without any hint of black. But yes, his age being 5-6 years is accurate because that's when they become strong enough to challenge a king for his pride. Any time younger than that is suicide unless he has brothers to support him.

I'm 38. I was in 3rd grade when this movie came out and I still have memories of seeing it with my dad and brothers at our mall theater on opening weekend. When it was over, we stopped in a mall store and picked up the soundtrack CASSETTE TAPE (remember those?) and listened to it the entire ride home and it was played on repeat constantly over the next several months. The Lion King was on merchandise and in media EVERYWHERE back then. Every kid in school was obsessed with the movie. It was the Frozen of its time back then. Lion King is the most perfect disney movie in my opinion. The way the start and ending scenes frame it is magical. All the songs are iconic, the plot is simple but the entire thing is so beautiful and meaningful- it became more than just a cartoon, it's allegoric Art. I wouldn't change a single second in it. I saw it in the movie theater when I was a child and watched it when I was 30+ and loved it just as much. I have to say I personally enjoyed Aladdin and maybe even some others a bit more but I think Lion King is the best of all of them in purely artistic terms.

I cannot think of Mufasa's death scene for LITERALLY even a second bc I start to get choked up. It was the first time I ever had to deal with the concept of death and doing so at such a young age sticks with you for life. The music and soundtrack are legendary as well. The messages it teaches about accepting your destiny and how circular life is (hence Circle of Life) are profound as well. Some fun facts: The story of the lion king is based on Hamlet. The character scar was based on Sheer Kahn from the jungle book, the way he moves, the way Jeremy irons speaks his lines.etc. Mufasa is the only male in the pride (aside from scar) so its very likely that Simba and Nala are in fact half siblings. Finally, scar appears in another non lion king movie. Scar is the Nemean lion in Disney's Hercules. When Herc is posing for his portrait he's wearing scar as a pelt, the real Hercules wore a lion pelt as his armor. So Zazoo was kind of right saying he'd make a nice throw rug. This is one of my favorite movies from my childhood and one I've enjoyed sharing with my own children. Great video as always.

I was around 12-13 when this released and saw it 3 times in theaters. This movie holds up so well because you had master storytellers using classic literary themes to tell a story about life, love, and responsibilities in a way for children to digest. It utilizes both shakespearian and Arthurian (King Arthur) elements. Specifically betrayal and the importance of not only being King but a good King. In Arthur legends the king and the land are one. So a good King equals prosperous lands and a Bad King, Scar, destroyed Lands.

The Circle of Life, the entrance song, was done in one take. The main singer was not reachable before they were to start recording. He never rehearsed with the background chorus. Yet, he came into the recording studio and sung as though he had been there the whole time. Lion cubs are fully grown after 3 years. So, Simba was with Timon and Pumbha for maybe 2 1/2 years. There is a midquel about Simba growing up away from the Pridelands, but focuses more on Timon and Pumbha. The Lion King 1 1/2. Those two also had their own animated series in the 1990s. Hijinks of them going around the world. The hyenas and Rafiki the Baboon also had segments in that show. Here are some suggestions of other Disney movies, some very underappreciated. The Three Musketeers from 1993, The Rocketeer from 1991, Dick Tracy from 1990(I think), Atlantis the Lost Empire, Fantasia and Fantasia 2000, TRON and TRON Legacy, and so many more.

I have a very strong love/hate relationship with this film. I saw it in the theatre with my father in July of '94 at the age of 8 and we both loved it. We loved it so much he went out and bought the soundtrack the next day and he, my sisters, and I would spend the rest of the summer jamming out and singing along to it. That December we got the call at my mother's house that my own father was dead, by his own hand. I went from learning about the concept of death and loss from this movie to experiencing it firsthand in the span of 6 months. Afterward the post-graveyard speech and that reflection scene hit just hit so hard I vehemently refused to watch this movie for years after. In spite of all that it gives me great pleasure to see new faces enjoying it to the same degree we initially did. :)

Scars real name was Taka, he has abit of complex background.He was manipulated by the Hyenas into doing some bad things (Anakin Skywalker style). Scar chose his name after receiving his namesake. There are actually several versions of Scars background. But they all agree that he chose the name himself.

I hear Timon's voice and I think about his actor (Nathan Lane) and Robin Williams in the movie The Birdcage. It's a comedy/thriller. Then you have adult Simba's actor Matthew Broderick along side Nathan Lane in The Producers remake. It's funny how paths cross in movies later on down the road for actors.

This is a beloved Disney classic that many of us that are in our late 20s-early 30s grew up with. I feel like I'm the only one who never got emotional(and still doesn't) at Mufasa's death. Ironically, Mufasa is voiced by James Earl Jones who also gave his voice to the baddest villain of all time Darth Vader. Jones reprised his role of Mufasa in the live action remake(which you should also watch after watching the sequel to this one). Fun fact: in the scene where Simba and Nala explore the elephant graveyard and slide down the spine of an elephant skeleton, Johnathan Taylor Thomas(young Simba's VA) struggled with creating the sounds Simba makes while sliding down the bones so he was put in a harness and someone bounced it up and down to create the bouncing audio.

You’re not the only one who never cried at Mufasa’s death. I always hated that Mufasa was dead but I never cried at any movies, let alone this movie, or shows. There were two other souls that never cried at that film. You ever heard of Timothee of France and Canada and his now wife, Clariss of Columbia? They stayed tough throughout the entire film as well. That makes four of us.

I was so so obsessed with this movie when I was young ❤ It’s one of the great classics that’s morphs as you age and you can really enjoy it in different ways at different life stages. I’ll be honest and say I’m not reading all the comments before typing so i’m sure someone has pointed out this fact already, but just in case they haven’t: the story of this film is based on the story of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It’s something that I of course did not at all notice when I was 11 and watching the hot new Disney movie, but when I came back as a teen in high school going through a big theatre nerd Shakespeare phase this blew my mind as I rewatched the movie haha.

Hans Zimmer only did this film cause of his child and wanted to be able to finally take his child to a premiere lol. Most of his best works were done reluctantly. Also he dedicated this work 9f his to his own father. He calls it his ode to his dad. That's why it's so heartfelt and personal, more than any of his other works

I think you might be misreading Hakuna Matata. The message Timon and Pumbaa were trying to give Simba was that there are things you cannot control and to simply pay them no heed, but the lesson of the movie is that you can't always run away from your problems. Much like the circle of life, they will come back around and it's up to you to muster the courage to face them. It's a lot like Frozen's Let It Go. Everyone has overly romanticized it and fail to realize that it's supposed to be a negative message; a low point of surrender for the main character to overcome.

A great reaction as always, it surprise me a lot that you have never seen this one before. It's my all time favorite movie, I used to watch this movie like 2 times per day when I was 5yo, I used to known every dialog (in the latin american dubbed version). There is a thing with the music in this movie that its simply genius. First of all, the leitmotif "This land" is associated with simba, in the beggining when appears, it does in a simply, timid way, you could say insecure, but when simba has to rise and become king, the music get more epic and full of other instruments. Secondly, the whole movie follows a semi realistc logic, but there are two moments in which this logic dissapear. one is when simba sing about be a king, thing that a child doesnt know anything. and the second one is when scar sing about kill his family to gain power. When simba start singing, the colors, the shapes and even the way the other animals are drawed are slightly different. this happens because simba is losing perspective about reality and is getting carried away in his fantasy about something that he doesnt understand at all. And when Scar start singing everything looks normal because he is only singing about his plan, but as soon as he remarks how incredibly awesome he is and how everybody has to shown respect towards him, the colors, the shapes and even the ground start to became "irreal" because scar also lose perspective and indulge his own fantasies. I do not normaly left comments on anything but since this is my favorite movie, and since you are my favorite ytreacter. well, I think that summarise everything. I would love to elaborate more but my English is rotting in my head and its too much text, so... keep with the great work and remember to laugh in the face of danger ha ha ha. salutations from the old continent.

I think the point that the movie is trying to make about "Hakuna Matata" is that while it is an attractive philosophy, it stands in sharp contrast to what Simba was actually taught, and it's that philosophy that keeps him dodging his responsibilities for so long. So in that way, it acts as a hindrance to Simba accepting what is actually true and is something he has to learn to reject--which makes the movie even more interesting because it doesn't just have a villainous character that has to be defeated, but an erroneous mindset that has to be corrected.
