I would argue the 2005 version is pretty close to "perfect." I genuinely don't think you could adapt that story any better.

Thanks for watching! I can't honestly put down why the 2005 version leaves me a little cold. The acting is great, the CGI is done excellently, and it's pretty faithful to the book. And I recall it being well-received when it came out. Maybe I was going through a slump myself? There were a string of big movie disappointments for me in those years - the opposite of nostalgia maybe. I blame grad school.

I remember recording the cartoon version on cassette player years ago, yes I know that meant i could only hear the actors but I loved that book so much. I have seen the others but cartoon remains my favourite ,just because how beastly Edmund comes across . And yes adapting some of the books in that series can be hard work ,The magicians nephew has had a few failed attempts that never saw light of day. I love the fact CS Lewis and Tolkien used to meet up in The Eagle and Child pub in Oxford ,both creating these magical worlds where i spent so many hours in my childhood exploring .

I finally saw Zatoichi BTW. There are so many films so I want to focus on the first one. Still mulling over what to say.

@@paulthomas3247 there is a moment in the first film when the emotional weight hit me, and it took me completely by surprise. I got into Zatoichi via Lone wolf and cub, so didn't expect the humanity Katsu so brilliantly brings. I am keen to hear what you thought about it, probably a massive anti climax as I have been harping on about it forever!

He's just a man like us, but he's done a LOT to inspire people. These kids' books are great, but so are Mere Christianity, the Screwtape Letters, and Pilgrim's Regress. (That last one's a bit hyper-intellectual, but I liked it.)

Dude, was there a Tripods movie? I read the comic-book adaptation of at least the first novel in Boy's Life Magazine in the early 80s. Those novels were awesome.

There was a Tripods TV show from BBC many years ago - like Lion Witch never was completed tho think maybe just one season hmm
