My intro to Kurosawa came via Zatoichi meets Yojimbo - which given how revered Toshiro Mifune is and how brilliant Katsu portrays the blind swordsman, is actually a bit of a let down. I have only seen a couple of his films and although I like them, I probably need to spend more time exploring his filmography. However doing stuff like is always fraught with danger as I, like yourself have a tendency to become obsessed. I remember you telling me you saw this, I am glad you are exploring Japanese cinema and it's great that it's kind of out of your comfort zone. As always, your videos are a pleasure to watch.

My two strengths in Japanese cinema are actually Kurosawa and Godzilla. I can't believe it's taken me this long to get to Drunken Angel, which is really amazing. Throne of Blood will follow fairly soon... You know my Shakespeare addiction. But following Drunken Angel, Naked Island and Dead End Drive-In, I am overdue for some lighter content, first.

IWhy was cantinflas cast in the movie? I believe they needed funds for the movie, so theya asked Cantinflas to invest money in the movie. They offered him a less important role in the movie but he did not accept but after he was given the role of paspartout.

Hey, thanks for watching! I had the advantage of living in the middle of nowhere with only one TV channel as a kid, and for some reason the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Network) decided we needed to see all 10 Fred & Ginger movies over a couple weeks. I was 9 and impressionable. Obviously, they haven't become any less exciting to me over the past 40+ years!

I actually saw it first in a theater and was sold from the opening shot. I know the slo-mo fight scene was mostly bullshit, but it was too cool not to go along with it. And it was personally cool to learn the story of the Beast and find out we still don't know what it was to this day. We know it was big, smart, and vicious but no one could agree on what it might be from the few descriptions they had of it. They killed some things they thought might be it, but no one really knew. It's an odd little prequel of sorts to the explosion that was getting ready to wipe out all the elites' charmed lives. Good video...

I grew up on G&S: one of my very first LPs from my parents (yes, I'm that old...) was an anthology that included songs from "Mikado", "Penzance" and "Pinafore". My sister acted in and brought home the material from *her* favorite G&S "Patience". We missed out on watching the Papp production in the Park, but we all love the YT clips from it, and the movie is tons of fun -- anything with Kline is great on at least one level. You might want to take a look at "Topsy Turvy", which shows us, more or less, how "Mikado" came together. It features Jim Broadbent as Gilbert, and, in a small role, Gollum himself, Andy Serkis.

I'll definitely be looking for more of your content! This movie is so fascinating because it released during the animators’ strike which was one of the major factors in ending the “golden age” of Disney. The behind the scenes glimpses we get here are like the last gasp of that collaborative culture (albeit a manufactured look at it). After this, many animators were fired or laid off, the war forced Disney to produce cheap propaganda cartoons, the features failed at the box office, and proper Disney animation really wouldn’t get going again for a whole decade.

Small nerdy point of order: Dexter isn't a writer; he designs boats.
