The Safariland Group

TOGETHER, WE SAVE LIVES® - To some, these may be mere words, remnants of a time when companies embraced their history and delivered on their promises. At The Safariland Group we live those values every day. We live them when we empower over two thousand people to design, engineer, research and deliver our protective equipment products to those that protect us. We live them as we continuously seek new innovations to add to the premier group of Safariland brands that have been protecting law enforcement, military and security professionals for over half a century. We live them when we help save lives. From the front lines to back home, our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices for their families, their communities and our country. But the brave and determined have become increasingly lost and forgotten. The ravages of PTSD, body mutilation due to IEDs, and nightmares resounding with echoes of the battlefield are often the private hells of our returned heroes and warriors. The home that once emboldened our veterans during their most harrowing war time experiences has too often ignored or neglected them upon their return.
Every day, an average of 22 veterans take their own life, yet this disquieting statistic is rarely noted by the media or our elected leaders. The Lionhearted project visits 22 veterans from the Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy while veteran artist, Shawn Ganther expresses their untold story through art.
A 24-minute short film, and each individual art piece featuring a veteran’s combat story provides a digital channel for all Americans to celebrate these heroes. This storytelling spotlights each warriors’ experiences of courage, combat and comradery while in Afghanistan, Iraq and other active war zones. The video features interviews conducted veteran-to-veteran, as well as footage of both combat and their present-day home and work life.
These individual art pieces depicting the personal war-time experiences of our surviving warriors will be created in the colors, Red, White and Blue. The final artwork creates a 6-foot long, 350-pound mosaic of the American flag. This tribute to veterans’ stories will live forever enshrined at the National Veterans Art Museum so that their loyal self-sacrifice may become, and remain, a source of our national pride. See all the artwork at www.lionheartedfilm.com or visit safariland.com

imagine a director telling you "cut - you have to sound more like Rudy Reyes" when you are Rudy Reyes. I think about that when I see Marcus Luttrel in Lone Survivor, where he's in a group of people, playing someone other than himself, and a different person five feet away is playing him. Besides the near-death (i.e. - knocked out, almost drowned, bleeding out, etc.), that is as close to an out-of-body experience as I could imagine.

I wonder how long he will keep that dark black hair for. It seems odd that he has zero grey hairs. Also massive facial hair, but hardly any on the rest of him. What the hell? Most dudes would love to have that specific allocation. Instead I think the common thing is to lose the hair on your head, and watch the damn stuff regrow on your back, out of your nose and ears. FFS.

Rudy is a good man molded by a cruel world. He didn't lose himself, he just grew into a better version of himself. The struggle is what builds us and influences our decisions, if we crumble at our lowest, we will shine at our highest. Just surviving isn't enough, you have to learn, grow, and rise above, the second you stop learning and start forgetting is when you are lost.

*Corrected on 2/21/20 for name correction* The story with the child is almost identical with something that happened to another Marine in another war...Eugene Sledge "Sledgehammer" in Okinawa (WW2). Basically he and another Marine "SNAFU" Shelton stumbled upon a crying baby among-st the dead in a hut who is probably the only survivor in a Mortar attack that wrecked the small village. and not really caring or even approaching the baby. They just watched him cry until another Marine comes and chastises them for just standing there saying "The hell is wrong with you 2?". The other Marine picked up the baby comfort him a little and left with the baby. Anyway I hope Rudy is doing well.

me too, when I joined the Corps i didnt want to Kill I wanted to protect, as a member of the Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team I did just that, I protected many people and ships from planned attacks after 9-11, I dont regret defending human beings, it did start to get convoluted and confusing though so I got out but when i did alot of my friends died the next year, I felt really weird, like I abandonned my friends when they needed me, i got wreckless driving charges and buried myself in alchohol. I hated almost every day in the Corps but for some reason I miss it alot, I think about it every day. no matter what they told you Devil, you are not a machine, its ok to feel. I wished people knew we are usually not the way we are usually portrayed.

I think Generation Kill and some of the documentaries/reality shows that came out of Iraq and Afghanistan do a good job of showing that human element of US military personnel. I wonder if you guys know what many of us “civilians” know about the attacks on USS Liberty in 1967, Avalon Affair, the attacks on 9/11 ( 9/11 Suspects - Dancing Israelis, 9/11 War Games, 9/11 Trillions good documentary videos by James Corbett but you will find videos on these in many places and articles) who are the real snipers that are killing US soldiers are ( media just mentioning “Russians” but I have seen heard otherwise…) Larry Silverstein gave the “pull” down order on WTC 7(in July before the attacks on 9/11 he purchased such a large insurance different insurance companies had to get together to provide the coverage..) www.bitchute.com/video/AYyBaQDrXgsh/ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7KefsyF0rWaZJc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aL54oJhntJiyhH0.html Everything going in this country makes this forecast seem conservative… 2025 Forecast from a military website. www.deagel.com/country/forecast.aspx

If you want to know why we have the best military in the history of this world, just take a look at guys like Fruity Rudy. The guy is a bad ass with some serious brain power. His self-awareness is crazy. These are the kind of people we have at the tip of the spear. Most of the special ops guys (and many people in the military in general) are like Rudy. They are very smart and very compassionate......and at the same time, lethal ass dudes. Much respect to you guys....much respect.

cdr861532 everything balances out. That mean aggressive guy has a purpose just like the guy that’s a bit more compassionate. But without both in the same group neither are as effective.

The greatest thing about the military is that these guys are way too humble (and for good reasons) than what they really are: real time badasses thousands of men can only day dream of.

Fucking motivator! I am happy he is willing to talk about his experiences and share the stories, there are things I will not talk about and I know lots of my friends won't talk about, this is like therapy and it helps immensely.

Everything happens for a reason Rudy. Don't let it bring you down . These things have happened to me as well in life . I really don't know what to make of who that person was when "life's moments" happen but I do believe it happens for a reason like keeping us in check that we are not crazed killers when in survival or attack mode . I wish you and your family the best . I just watched generation kill all these years later and it's been a great 3rd time through the series .

It's called PTSD Matey! We unfortunately have it! I live with it Everyday. I'm Semi ok now. I just these days like to be myself. I still get the bad, sweaty dreams. But that's ok. I don't like physiologist at All. But 5 years ago I got a Great one purely by accident. She's Great!! She said to me that those memories will Always be with me. It's What I do with them!! Today I'm a Proud Father of a Wonderful Young Woman!! She's 16 now and I love to see her developing as a Good and Decent Woman!! Such is Life!!!
