Halle does look and sound absolutely incredible… I just so wish that her hair colour was more like the original.. she’s a mermaid, it doesn’t need to necessarily look like a totally natural human colour, it should be so much brighter like bright corals (*not saying the actual colour ‘coral’)… they could always have had it tone down for her becoming human… I’m so glad they are showing more colour though, really hope they heighten it even more.

You are right; they did brighten the underwater scenes, if only slightly. Honestly, I've felt iffy about this movie for many reasons, not least of which is that I haven't liked a single live action movie, except for Maleficent. However, I love Halle's look, her voice, and that, when there is color, the film does look stunning. Provided the trailer shows an accurate depiction of how they will actually go with the film, I am cautiously optimistic. I will probably always like the animated film better because it feels more magical, but I hope the film is good and they don't add too much nonsense to it like they have done with every other live action film. For the same reason I'm ok with the darkness during the rescue scene, I'm ok with the low saturation of the beach scene. It's going to be dark at night and it's going to be low saturation at dawn. If it was brighter, that would mean she swam about 5+ hours to land to go from pitch black night to almost mid-day sun. When she turns in the water to stare back, the lighting is beautiful dawn lighting. Soft shadows, slightly cool, desaturated vs mid-day which is harsh shadows, vivid, super sharp, and slightly warm. I hope the wedding is during sunset or sunrise to really showcase the journey of Ariel.

I was about to comment this, I don't have problem with the darkness in the scenes they showed because I mean is supposed to be night and then when she takes him to the beach after saving him is supposed to be dawn so there isn't much light or color still, so I think it fits, same with Ursula's cave, I think the darkness works there as well and hopefully the wedding scene is like you said because it makes sense a lot, I think Brit is just a bit picky on that tbh, but they did brighter some scenes too which is better than the teasers on that aspect.

The thing is, this looks indeed alot better than we feared. Halle has a beautiful voice worthy of Ariel, she looks amazing as a mermaid, Ursula's portrayal is also giving me some actual hope again and the sea finally looks better too although alot can still be improved. The standards regarding these remakes has never been "Everything needs to be 100% dogshit to not be concidered good". These movies cost millions upon MILLIONS of dollars, there _better_ be good stuff in this! But that doesn't mean any of this should automatically be tolerated just because it wasn't as bad as we feared. Especially not when the BAR has been brought down to the floor by Disney itself in the last decade. No, Halle's beautiful singing voice is not proof that the movie itself is good, it just means Disney at least did prioritized the singing voice in casting (which Hallelujah, after Emma Watson as Belle). But her singing isn't deciding if the movie is good. For all it is, they could have had a bad singer in a good movie and the movie would still be good. In that case the OG version would just have suffered alot and people should watch international dubs where proper singing voices made up for the bad OG. But no dubbing studio could potentially save this little mermaid remake if it's simply a bad movie. And regarding the visuals? Again, millions upon millions of dollars. "it looks better than I thought!" is one seriously pathetic and outrageous standard to hold DISNEY to. It's not hard to look better than I thought when Disney teached me to expect the worst :/

I’m willing to forgive this movie IF they keep the original ending. At the end of the day, the little mermaid is not just a tale of love, but to learn to let your kids go so they can start their own life. Ariel marrying Eric, an act considered of separating from your family to make a new your own, and saying goodbye to her dad with the “I love you daddy” is so much powerful than a dumb girl boss moment

I think they did brighten the trailer footage in a few places, but not enough of the movie looks brightened, and I'm so disappointed that her hair just looks brown. It looks better, but... so much of the coral looks so DEAD. I'd love to see the reefs in all their full color in this movie. I think it could be really cool, and it might even be able to save it. A few other notes I have is that 1- in the part where the birb (can't remember its name) is like "you look different!" the plants on deck with them look REALLY plasticky. 2- I could see a little bit of too-light color around her hair, so it looked really unnatural. 3- The ocean has a lot of STUFF in it, and I think a lot of the shots don't look full enough. 4- The ocean has a lot of SMALL STUFF in it, but the layering is really weird. Things that are farther away should look bluer and with less detail, but in this it really looks like they just had regular lights in a regular room and just put an ocean screen behind them. It should look like they're IN the ocean, not next to it. It looks a lot better now, but there are still some things that I'd love to see fixed! :D

I do think it looks much better now and absolutely love the more vibrant and colorful scenes. The only thing I could pick on is Ariel's hair colour as the current shade (looks like a cinnamon colour) is fairly similar to Halle's skin colour which is honestly okay if people prefer it that way but I honestly wished they used a darker or added a bit of hot or crimson red colour so that her beautiful complexion and facial features don't get lost or become one with her hair.

I think her hair should have been more red.. that’s literally Ariel’s signature feature. Her hair looks more strawberry blonde than red in several shots. Also, I don’t like the casting… except for Halle, she’s perfect for this role. But as for Ursula, Eric, and King Tritan🥴.. eh. Lastly, I think the cgi in several scenes looked subpar.. the only scene that looked really good was the ship scene at the beginning. I think I’m just super critical of it because The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney princess movie, as a little girl. I was obsessed with Ariel. So my standards are really high for this one… I want to feel that same magic and emotion I felt as a child. I just didn’t get that from this trailer. Considering the information available, colorblind casting is very likely. It was recently confirmed that Simone Ashley (from Bridgerton) plays one of Ariel’s sisters, even though she’s South Asian, and I looked into some of the other actors cast as Ariel’s sisters, and they’re of different backgrounds as well. And Lin-Manuel Miranda *is* involved on the production side of things, so that could be a factor. Granted, in the original, none of the sisters looked alike anyway, and other media expanding on it (like the prequel movie) demonstrate how the mom was basically Ariel’s twin and the dad also had red hair as a younger man, so it’s possibly an homage to that?

The sisters did all have pale skin and looked similar in facial structures, but they had different hair colors as well as fin colors, which clearly was more of them inheriting the more dominant genes. To be fair, the shipwreck scene was just as dark in the animation. The thing that concerns me is that they still don't really seem to know their audience. It almost seems like they're trying to take this in an edgy meta place based on the music and the colors. But if you want to do that, you can't call it "Disney's The Little Mermaid" because everyone is going to expect a wholesome colorful animated camp fairytale. They had the right idea with Malificent because it already distanced itself from sleeping beauty by not being called sleeping beauty. Alice in Wonderland distanced itself because we knew it was made by Tim Burton and that was the pitch.

I agree. I feel like people are being too picky about the animals though! I didn’t expect anything more than that to be honest. And I mean, put yourself in the position of the animator/designers/3D modeler, etc for this film. How’re you going to make a Sebastian that fits the vibe of the movie, but also satisfies viewers nostalgia? It’s not impossible, it’s just difficult because there are so many mixed opinions. On top of that, you don’t want to make an eerily realistic crab model for Sebastian because it’s odd and off putting, but you don’t want a overly cartoonish one either. I think they went with the best option of making the animals semi-realistic. Realistic in design, but animated in movement. Overall, once the movie comes out, I think most people will adjust to it and end up liking it.

The colours look a lot better. My only real criticism is that the ocean world feels really...lonely? In the original Little Mermaid, the underwater world felt like its own distinct and thriving society that was rich with culture and characters. I sometimes get a bit worried when trailers look really good in fear that the ad companies deliberately choose the parts that look the best to make the film appear better than it actually is, but I think it looks pretty good! I think the on-land shots were made to look desaturated so it had a stronger contrast to the vibrant, colourful and magical tone of the ocean, but I do hope that the areas within the kingdom are more colourful. Flounder and Sebastian look super weird but I was fine with Scuttle, honestly. I mean I really adore birds so I might be a bit biased, but at the very least I think he looked the best out of the three. I also like that they made him a Gannet instead of a seagull because I love Gannets!

Looks like Disney did some color correction. Some of the scenes look awesome. Others look a little too blended. Like bad water color. Seeing this. I think, Disney might want to test it's trailers on a smaller audience or have a trailer preview. Before posting it to KZfaq.

Your joy and wholesomeness made the video! Im so happy you reviewed it so early! I did cry at the trailer Halle looks gorgeous and I feel like she nailed Ariel’s vocals and even speaking voice. I do wish her hair was just a liiiiiil bit more red and scuttle and. Sebastian sounded different but you win some and loose some. I feel like the backdrop and location gave pirates of the Caribbean vibes and idk how I feel about it I agree it looks so washed out like the editors couldn’t find the saturation button Also why is flounder so tiny 😭

It says a lot the live action Lion King had better cgi animals, since that was an animal documentary, while this was just a woman talking to nightmare hallucinations.

No it didn't. It was equally as bad. Why are you lying.

@@TheBluestOfThemAll It did. The lions didn't look like nightmare fuel. Sure they didn't have much expression, but you could tell who was talking, compared to these animals where it sounds like disembodied voices.

love Halle acting and singing but to me Disney could of expand the ariel franchise and brought more to her world. TBH we only see ariel in one setting maybe due to ariel and eric's marriage, they created a treaty between the land and sea, we could get a new character from another part of the sea under triont rule that maybe follow the same themes as ariel but have a different path she could also get her own prince following a similar theme they explore parts of ariel world that we didnt get to see and their villain could be from a cultural myth of the evil mermaid.

I I think this soundtrack will be phenomenal, Halle's voice is gorgeous! The CGI is not great on the underwater parts, and even the above is kinda dull. It may be the CGI but the expressions look flat to me. I think I'm just tired of live action remakes, just make new stories. Give talented singers and actresses new roles that they can make their own, or use the broadway versions or something. I think it will be a big seller at the box office, then fade into the background like almost all the other remakes, although definitely will be high up on spotify.

This is the best trailer for the movie so far. The colors are bighter. Halle Bailey's voice is great. However, I can't get behind talking animals in a live-action movie. I'm not a fan of the costume either. It looks like a swimsuit. IDK.
