Dalton's Bond had it all - class, romance, tough, etc. He was and still is my favorite. What he was doing was way before it's time, and only now does he seem to be getting the acknowledgement and appreciation for what he brought to those films.

Farewell John Barry, greatest composer to James Bond (11 scores, 1963-1987). And R.I.P.
@davidrowell41104 жыл бұрын
At his core, Bond was a contract spy & killer with a cold demeanour. He lived a dangerous, transient life with no permanent ties. This is the ONLY song which truly reflects his real emptiness and loneliness. Dalton delivered Fleming's vision well; perhaps too well. Barry's melody is majestic, haunting and nostalgic, while Chrissie's vocal is emotional and compelling, its lyrics relating the inner sadness of the character. This song sums up the REAL Bond...lonely, sad, but also brave & beautiful. Forget the radio fodder and the "pop song Top 40", THIS is the best Bond song. Gorgeous...

All the actors who played Bond brought their own take on the man, Timothy Dalton's 007 brought back a brutal realism to the character reminiscent of Sean Connery,, loyal to his job and queen, romantic at heart yet detached because of his work,, The music in Dalton's movies is some of the best in the franchise!! Who can forget The Pretenders/ Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight,,,,,,

It was this timeless movie and the entire soundtrack that made Timothy Dalton my favorite Bond of all time. Legendary and epic! The plot was fantastic with the twists and turns of an action suspense, and he only loved one woman, the lovely cello player Kyra, romancing her as they traveled all over the world. This is how all of the Bond movies should be

Timothy Dalton, in my opinion, was the quintessential Bond. He is handsome. He is resourceful. He is intelligent. Above all, he is ruthless. A necessity for being a secret agent. He brought back to the character of James Bond, that toughness and chivalry that makes Bond so appealing. Dalton was absolutely spot on in both his movies. He played Bond better then any other. Sean Connery is the lone exception, but even Connery lacked in his later films.

Stacy Krausmann Amen to every point you made my friend, Dalton was indeed the ideal James Bond!!! Except for both Roger Moore & George Lazenby, all the other 007s were absolutely fantastic: Connery, Brosnan & Craig each brought something special, unique & magnificent to James Bond but Timothy Dalton WAS James Bond in my humble opinion :) It's a dam tragic shame that thanks to some stupid lawsuit between the producers & the studio that Dalton was prevented from filming his 3rd 007 epic :(
@JPerez90118 жыл бұрын
DragonHeart613 I know I found half of the script to Dalton's third Bond epic. Apparently, it took place in a sub and had a young Denzel Washington in it as a petty officer. It also had John Rhys-Davies returning. It actually had a lot in common with "The Hunt for Red October". I forgot the website that I had found it on, but it was a pretty decent thriller from what was written. I totally agree, Dalton was Fleming's Bond.

The best 007 ending credits music!! I'm torn between this and "If You Asked Me To" by Patti LaBelle. Damn, Dalton had some good ending tracks to his Bond films. This is when Bond movies were ACTUALLY good and had some type of character and emotion behind them. The Living Daylights itself felt like one big adventure with a hint of romantic comedy thrown in with the interactions between Bond and Kyra. The film had an amazing end credits score, just sayin'.

+JPerez9011. I would agree that ''If There Was A Man'' is the best James Bond end title credits song in the history of the Bond film franchise. If only John Barry had insisted that the song be the main title song of the film ''The Living Daylights'', then Chrissie Hynde's ''If There Was A Man'' would just slightly edge out ''Diamonds Are Forever'' as the GOAT James Bond Main Title song, but as it stands Shirley Bassey's ''Diamonds Are Forever'' remains (and deservedly so) the GOAT James Bond main title song in the history of the Bond films.

I never even knew Chrissie Hynde did a Bond song. All I ever knew about this soundtrack was that John Barry didn't get along with the A-ha kids during their collaboration for the theme song. By the end he likened them to Hitler Youth and the band felt Barry didn't deserve to be credited with "their" music. It was Barry's last Bond soundtrack so I never really bothered with the film.

+Erik Geurten (Erick Overveen). The three GOAT James Bond soundtrack albums are (in no particular order) ''Diamonds Are Forever'', ''OHMSS'' and ''You Only Live Twice''. Those 3 Bond film scores are John Barry's 3 Bond film score masterpieces. When Barry scored ''TMWTGG'', the reality was that he was running out of fresh ideas for the Bond film scores which is totally understandable since his creative ''well'' was running dry in scoring that genre of film after he had created the three masterpiece Bond film scores cited above and three excellent Bond film scores ( ''FRWL'', ''Goldfinger'' and ''Thunderball''). ''The Living Daylights'' is a good film score but definitely not a great film score. In fairness to Barry, he was saddled with the music band Aha's lousy main title song for that Bond film , but he unfortunately made a terrible blunder when he failed to make Chrissie Hynde's magnificent ''If There Was A Man'' the main title song of the film.

Actually, they wanted Dalton to continue playing the role of Bond. But they waited too long between LTK and Goldeneye. Dalton chose to pursue other work, so they ended up replacing him with Pierce. It all worked out good, but Dalton was definitely top notch in his short time as 007.
@DaddyDrummer0076 жыл бұрын
MJ L that is what I heard as well. What Dalton actually said was. He wanted to come back and do one more film. Maybe two. But Cubby wanted four or five. Dalton did not want to be tied down to a role for that long. When he already waited for 4 to 5 years. A real shame as Goldeneye would had been much better with Dalton.
@Ebanatoyk4 жыл бұрын
There were major legal issues that lasted 5+ years between Licence to Kill and Goldeneye, which is what really killed off Dalton’s Bond. Shame, as he was good in the role.
@LexingtonDeville9844 жыл бұрын
Justin Duffy Had the legal issues not happened, Dalton would of done at least two more before signing off. Which is a shame because I feel he should of been Bond as early as 1981. For Your Eyes Only’s realistic and stripped back approach would of suited him. But all in all, he was a criminally underrated Bond.

Was just approaching 21years old and on the cusp of leaving home and independence. Drove there in my Dad's 1979 VW Golf MK1 diesel - had just learnt to drive and passed my test shortly afterwards. Good times - still get a kick out of watching this movie.

+HovercraftHoliday they didn't just let the series lie dormant. Bond 17 (which many have dubbed The Property of a Lady, even though the script was never called that) entered pre-production in 1990, with a whole plot line worked out with settings in Scotland, Hong Kong and Japan. The film was set for a 1991 release. However, there were whole legal ranglings, as UA had been bought out by MGM after the Heaven's Gate fiasco in 1981, and MGM/UA was then being bought out by Pathe. There were disagreements over the rights to VHS profits and other TV broadcast rights. In short, Albert R. Broccoli couldn't make another film until 1993, but the film took a while to enter pre-production, and Dalton got bored of waiting and left the series. Do I think Dalton should have done more? Yes. Is he better than Moore and Brosnan? Definitely. But it's unfair to say that he caused the franchise to stutter - the 6 year gap between LTK and GoldenEye was nothing to do with the limited success of the former.

DaddyDrummer007 Imagine Dalton doing Moonraker aka the Fleming version and not the bloated Star Wars homage.

@@DaddyDrummer007 I liked Roger in AVTAK but I wish Dalton had done more, not knocking Pierce but Dalton had more to give, I think he was meant to do more but 6 years passed so he went on to find other work

@@richardcrew417 I agree. Dalton should least done three more film then he did. He really should had been the 80's Bond.

@@DaddyDrummer007 I'm a Roger Moore fan so I'm glad Roger was around for 3 of the 80s films but Dalton was a good replacement

Dalton WAS Bond IMO. And this soundtrack is so quintessentially 80's, it's beautiful.

It took me like 10 years to find out who sung that end theme since back then we didn't have data on a cell phone or even a computer. Chrissie Hyde has a beautiful voice.

This song is great and this movie is perfect. It's just not one of my favourite Bond movies, it's one of my favourite movies...

After "We Have All the Time in the World" and the beautiful theme song from "For Your Eyes Only," this is John Barry's best composition.

+James Haynes. John Barry did not score the Bond film ''For Your Eyes Only''- it was scored by Bill Conti who is most famous for scoring the film ''Rocky''. As beautiful as Sheena Easton's song ''For Your Eyes Only'' is, it is not the greatest Bond film main title song.

Dalton deserved more Bond films than what he ultimately got. If only he'd taken over with "For Your Eyes Only"...
