Excellent Jason, I am a major fan of long trains. My problem is being retired and getting back into the model train world is a lot more expensive than I can afford. But what I do have put together is more than enough to make my 7 y/o granddaughter very happy. Just an aside, I still have my original Lionel train given to me by my parents back in the mid-1950's. And it still runs great and I would bet you a 2 liter bottle of soda that it could pull all 54 coal cars! Enjoy your summer, I am looking forward to seeing your 2024 Christmas layout. Respectfully, ~Ken

Hi JD. I've been looking forward to your next video and wondering exactly what's your next challenge would be. Well I wasn't disappointed. You remind me of myself and that I always look for challenges that blow my mind. I really like your sense of humor and I enjoy the sarcasm that goes along with it. You have a great layout and a great railroad car collection. I wondered what you been doing during the winter to entertain yourself and now I know! You really crack me up. I always look forward just seeing your next video. You must be some kind of telepathy going on here because I've been thinking about you for the past 2 weeks wandering how are you doing. Thanks for sharing this video. I wish I lived closer to you. We would have a blast running your trains and checking out your cars. Thanks for sharing a great video. Looking forward to the next one. Thank you Robert. There's always a long list of video ideas and layout progress to be made. But sometimes I'm stretched thin and all I want to do in the basement is run trains. However, this was a video I've been wanting to make for a long time. When I insert the humor/excitedness, that's when you know I'm really passionate about the video I'm making. This one was a lot of fun for me. Hope to have new content soon.

Jason I remember that promo MTH video and even before I bought my first Lionel. I quickly purchased an MTH R-T-R starter set as my first purchase. To me, MTH still gives you the best bang for your buck in what you get for lets say $400-500. Even today, Lionel does not even come close, even with their newer Lion Chief Plus models. You have an awesome and impressive layout! Cheers!

MTH cars are some of the free rolling cars on the market which means they're VERY light on the drawbar. I've used about 15 rapid discharge hoppers along with my 10 die-cast lionel 100 ton hoppers which I've recently sold. The whole 15 car train weighed less in terms of lateral pulling thank 3 of them die-cast hoppers. And I lubricated the crud outta them metal.things too lol. I wish MTH would do more scale steam era freight cars, specifically reefers. And I wish they'd sell em cheaper so I could get 100+ of em together and run em in a unit train or in a long maxed manifest drag freight.

When I was working at the railroad we built a couple trains out of Bedford Park (southwest side of Chicago) right next to BRC Clearing yard that were 15000'+. Had to use cell phones because the hand held radios couldn't reach the head end. Just curious, do all the locomotives in O scale have a lot swinging pilot? That one detail turns me away. Rolling stock and engines are looking less toylike but the snowplow swinging with truck kills it for me.
@JDStucks

If you order scale wheel versions from MTH, the pilot is fixed. Lionel also does a semi-fixed pilot on some of their high end diesels. I understand your disdain for it.

Long trains are a fun way of testing your track. Years ago, I had 2 SD40-2s, 47 89-foot autoracks, and a bay window caboose on the outside of the two mainline tracks on my layout. Things were going smoothly. Then I decided to cross the train over to the inside mainline track, forgetting that the inside curves would be shorter than the outside curves. The caboose crossed over with just six inches to spare in front of the locomotives. That was the longest trains I've run, but a few years ago when I got my onboard camera for the layout, I ran the second longest train, which is how I got this video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e9F2ddimrtfUmWw.html
