The purpose of this channel is to educate the public on the raw power of emotional tv and movie scenes.
Why can't I hold all these feels?
For this scene particularly watch for the following quotes:
"Frodo:I wish the ring had never come to me, I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times but that is not for them to decide, All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you."
"Sam: I made a promise Mr Frodo a promise 'dont you leave him Samwise Gamgee' and I dont mean to I dont mean to."
Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use.

The words of Gandalf are so powerful here not just because they are important for the story, for Frodo, but also because they are important for all of us. The tragedies of life are inevitable, but it is up to us to decide how we face them. Nothing is more true and more uplifting than that.

Although i tend to respect personal opinion I can't help but think what the fuck? Did this scene send chills down your spine and gave you goosebumps like so many others? Sure it is great and has a depp meaning behind it regarding our destiny but still not the greatest of the trilogy.

Firstly, yes, it does, has and always will send chills down my spine, and give me goosebumps. I can completely understand why you think, and probably many others think, that this scene pales in comparison to let's say, Helm's Deep, or Theoden's Speech, or some other scene that's a bit more iconic. However, IN MY OPINION, this scene trumps every other scene in the entire trilogy because it manages to transcend its fantasy genre and become just a beautiful, touching message about life in general. Sam's speech in Two Towers is also equally touching, but I feel this scene, and the message in this scene, is just that bit more affecting and universal. Again, MY OPINION

Only a fool would call Frodo Baggins weak, just because he doesn't have the physical strength or combat prowess of a great warrior like Aragorn. There isn't another living being that could have endured the burden and corruption of the one ring without breaking for as long as he did.

I couldn't even believe it. That someone would say something so stupid. Frodo carried the ring that is capable of corrupting people to such a degree that they would be killing their BEST FRIEND at the moment they find it. And that was when the ring was dormant. This was the PEAK of it's willpower. Gandalf could barely touch it and got the shivers. Frodo demonstrated a willpower so incredible. People honestly don't get how insane it was.

@@MrRenatopepin The subtlety here is that even if it looks like a flashback, it is not one, as you've said it it's a reprise (with a different light that the one in the Moria's, and a different tone of speech). This is why I love that scene so much : it's a direct telepathy link between Gandalf and Frodo. This scene is what I always come back to when I feel tired and weak. I’ve struggled with pain and disability my whole life. I was born 4 weeks premature with one eye smaller than the other. At 6 months old, surgery to remove a tumor in that eye left me absolutely blind in that eye. I’m legally blind in the other. I didn’t begin using actual words until I was 3 and even then was tongue-tied and had to have another surgery to repair that. At 10, I began losing my hearing and was diagnosed with an incurable neurological disorder. Another surgery to remove a tumor in my ear left me completely deaf and another tumor in my other ear left me deaf in that one also during my senior year of high school. I’ve had to learn a whole new language (ASL) in order to communicate with others. Then 4 years ago, I began having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy. My most recent episode was a week ago when I had 7 in the span of one night and had to go to the ER. I’m 28 now and my life has just been one long struggle. My burden, my Ring to carry. I have family at my side, but no true “Sam” figure. I’ve suffered from depression for over a decade and have contemplated suicide many times. But I always come back to Frodo’s quote in this scene and Gandalf’s response. I wish more than anything that none of this happened to me, but in the end it’s no use feeling sorry for yourself. Everyone dies, everyone suffers-that’s a fact of life. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that’s given to us.

One of the turn-points of the movie is when Frodo makes up his mind to do the bravest thing imaginable. To let go of the company, the warmth of men and elves, and into the pits of fire and hell. The funny thing about this, is that you are kind of wrong in one way, he doesn't have any idea how hard its going to be. But that's the point. I agree. I always say this. Frodo is my favorite and doesn't get enough credit. I love Sam too. They among many others are heroes. And Frodo would not have made it far without Sam. But that works both ways. As Frodo rescued him in this scene. Not to mention Frodo has an unbelievable burden around his neck that gets harder every step to Mordor. Out of all the people yelling and arguing at the Council of Elrond, only one spoke out then and said " I will take it". A hobbit just said he would take the ring to Mordor. Wow. Frodo decides to leave alone into unknown, hostile territory, under no obligation. He does it because he took the burden and is going to see it through, so his friends don't have too. For the destruction of evil, for the Shire, for his friends. Frodo took a morgul blade, a troll spear, and was stung by Shelob, all while carrying the most destructive thing in Middle Earth around his neck. "For Frodo".

As silly as it may sound this speech is what I feel like I will go to whenever I am sad. It is about fate, and our inability to change it. It's about showing our destinies and our fate who is boss, and the fact that though it may be out of our power, we still have the ability to master it and deny its intentions. We can weather any darkness so long as we decide the right thing to do with the time that is given to us, with the fait that befalls us. It's not about what happens… But how we react to what happens.

+Richard Sherman's IQ How is it the worst? D: The Two Towers is just hours of waiting for something to happen and Return of the King is a whole lot of CGI-battles and a very long ending. Fellowship is the only real adventure movie where they are travelling through the world, it is the most colorful(they hadn't started applying bleak color filters like in RotK), most mysterious, has the most beautiful landscapes and best characters(boromir and gandalf the grey), and less need for comic relief a la Gimli and Legolas because the story hadn't turn as dark yet. For me the battle in the intro of Fellowship is cooler than all the other battles in the trilogy. Maybe I'm a bit biased since it was the first of it's kind and when I exited the cinema I was sure that it was the best movie I had ever seen. But still! :p

People always comment about how this scene shows Frodos determination and self sacrifice choosing to leave the fellowship and venture alone but there’s something else there that I feel gets overlooked. Frodo spent his whole life never really knowing what it felt like to be betrayed, to have someone wrong you as much as Boromir wronged him in his moment of weakness by trying to take the ring and (as Frodo saw it) kill him. He’s standing on that beach thinking that he can’t trust anyone, that’s why he thinks back to Gandalf, one of the people he felt he could trust with his life whose now gone. That’s why Sam’s actions move Frodo to tears. In a moment when he felt completely alone in the world, Sam all but sacrifices himself to show Frodo that he has friends, and that the bonds of Fellowship are not so easily broken.

+Orion White No, death isn't the end. You rot. Or they make a fire of you. But really, there is no "you" left. Life is a process, and at death, the process ceases. With it ceases all possibility of being sad, lonely, terrified, or any of the other things that people commonly feel on contemplating death. As the brain shuts down in its last moments of life, it goes into a delusional state in which some have seen the halls of Heaven, and others the fires of Hell. The few that have recovered from this state believe they have seen something real, when all they have seen is the collapse of their own consciousness.

+Antonio Díaz I have felt--and sometimes continue to feel--the same way you do about dying. But I believe that love is the key to living life to the fullest and it is also my belief that God is the source of all true love, that if you could once see Him as He truly is you would have found the answer and the question . . . J.R.R Tolkien was a Christian and I think it must have influenced his work even more than he himself realized at the time. For instance, you should read the beginning chapters of The Silmarillion which describes how God (Illuvatar) created the world of Middle Earth. That book can be hard to wade through but it lays the foundation for the whole world of the LOTR, including the spiritual world. :) :)

This is life, quite simply, in perfect summary. We’re all heroes in our own hero’s journey. We all have our own struggle and burdens to have to carry to our final days, and no matter how many friends or family or fellowship in the beginning of life... the road of life is a long one... eventually the first chapter of life is complete and we have to prepare ourselves to face the 66% of our whole journey on our own (more or less), we all have to go our own way. Perfect scene!

As a boy, I thought Lord of the Rings was about the soldiers, battles, and magic. Revisiting the series as a man, I understand now what Tolkien was aiming toward. The beauty of the series is found in small moments such as this, in the longing for better days spent at home and at peace. The moments we regard as glorious are often only so because of what they signify. A battle is a terrible, dreadful thing. But it may signify hope of brighter days to come. Sam fighting in the tower at Cirith Ungol is horrifying, but he does it for one he loves. The defense of Minas Tirith is a great example of this. Even though it has fallen from glory, the city is worth defending because of what it signifies and because of the people who reside there.

Frodo and Sam is the example of a brotherly-like bond. Then again since Tolkien was in WWII, his influence for Frodo and Sam's friendship was a British soldier and his batman (not the superhero). The batman was responsible for making sure his soldier was doing well and that he got the right essentials before going off into the battle. Except Frodo isn't fighting a war; the only war he's fighting comes from within - if he can maintain his innocence and the willpower to destroy the Ring, and Sam is doing everything in his willpower to make sure Frodo gets the job done, even if he has to carry Frodo with his own two arms.
