"Utterly rejected" is definitely hyperbolic, the only people going to that degree are doing it bc they set their own expectations too high, or are using this to throw their little "Middle Earth has gone woke!!" hissy fits. It was just underwhelming. The story was decent enough to keep me in, performances and production were all accomplished, but it is just crazy they spent so much and delivered a middling season one.

Yeah honestly this trailer looks pretty good. The 1st season was boring imo. It wasnt irredeemable just slow. One wld hope they learnt some lessons from the 1st season and the 2nd will be an improvement. What I dont get also is that 80% of the ppl clowning it are undoubtedly gonna watch it (hence y they watched the damn trailer). Why root for it to fail if ur gonna still watch it.

Tolkein's work continues to exist and be loved whether an adaptation you dislike is coming out or not, nothing has been "destroyed." In fact, even if you don't like the adaptation, it will lead to more people buying and enjoying the original work who otherwise might not have. No, Tolkein probably wouldn't have liked it, but he wouldn't have liked the Hobbit trilogy or the OG trilogy either. The world moves on. Stop being so dramatic.

Agreed, as a long time fan of the books I found the Hobbit trilogy far more upsetting. RoP was fun and I'm looking forward to season 2.

because the show insults the original author, didnt get permission just stole his books name and idea and butchered it. whole point of his books is anti war. let alone for big budget its lack in showing its big budget. reality is shows that they do that are good they kill off shows that are ass they continue even if theyre losing money. you bring up the hobbit, you do realize a movie is incapable of putting several dozen books into 2+ hour movies. where as the show is making up its own shit.

@@BleachDemon69 I'm not one to respond to this kind of comment, usually, however you seem to be very passionate about this subject and I couldn't resist engaging you. I had to educate myself to your point about rights to the show. According to what I have been able to research, it seems that they (Amazon) did in fact get permission from the estate of Tolkien (in the same way one would seek rights to the countless films about Elvis presley just for example) and wrote only according to the unfinished tales of the second age which Tolkien hadn't finished anyways before his death. I suppose it's up to a personal opinion as to whether or not it disrespects his legacy. But it seems to me that they had family and experts around to help bring the show to life and that's as good as it gets if you're going to do something like that for someone who is long passed. Do you think Tolkien would have wanted his work to die with him? I think he would have appreciated that it's carried forward for new generations and modern audiences. As far as your point towards war, I have a difference of opinion. Perhaps the perspective of protagonists are against war but there are many wars in tolkiens world's history. That history is somewhat covered in the prequels in the silmilrillion and the children of hurin. I see nothing wrong with illustrating what is ultimately just a build up to what we already know happens eventually. Alot of what the rings of power leads up to is illustrated at the beginning of the first Peter Jackson film with isildurs battle with sauron. And we aren't truly given any context other than brief mentions of ages past. Lastly to your final point, I don't dislike the Hobbit either. I agree with your point that they needed to spread it out to make it work fully but I don't think you could deny they took some creative liberties 'without tolkiens permission' as well. That being said I do appreciate and respect that you are passionate about it. I hope you're able to see the show in a different light and give it a fair chance.
