he created the first game and didn’t want to do the second one. he worked for a year on fallout 2 and quit. don’t know why we revere his name like it’s holy when he only worked on 1/5 of the series and has had zero involvement since he quit fallout 2.

Good video, but two things you shoulda have went over: 1. The creation of the brotherhood of steel (and their mission) 2. The reason technology looks so ‘50s era. It’s because the transistor was developed in fallout lore, but semiconductors, etc weren’t, which was another divergent from our timeline, I believe around 1940~ this is why vacuum tubes are so prevalent.

One thing Ive always never fully understood about Fallout was the concept of the vaults. Like, I get that they were used maliciously as experiments for the elites and upper class, but to what end? When they are using them, they are in need of them. The nuclear war and fallout has just happened, so what is the point of the experiements? By the time most of the vaults would open, hundreds of years have past. Who is going to be around to look at and record the results of the experiments of those inside? And even if they wanted to study them simply to see what was best suitable environment for the elites...if they managed to survive this long along with the people in the vaults, werent they already in the best possible one? And what is the need of being rich when the world is in ruin? And if everything went haywire and the only people that exist are rich, are they still technically rich? Or average? And wouldnt most of their wealth, or what they would call wealth, be depleted by the time their own vault opens or even be functionally useless in whatever the new world is? Just a handful of thoughts, and a bunch of overthinking, but idk...Ive always found the concept of the vaults being experiments a little weird

It doesn't make *any* sense until you introduce a new theory that ties everything together: The Enclave is trying to build a generational colony ship to colonize a distant star system. The vaults all perform various experiments related to how things could go wrong on a ship trapped in the void of space. Even the vault that had a single guy and a box of puppets could be seen as an experiment to determine if a single crewmember could stay awake while the rest stay locked in cryo-sleep (the answer is no, the crewmember will go insane). Once you introduce that theory, it ALL makes sense ;)

Correct me if I’m wrong but I remember you can read some of the experiment logs on the computers in the vaults when you visit them. I don’t think they expected the ENTIRE world to be destroyed in a single day. They probably thought they would be able to maintain communication with the other vaults and compare results. Also isn’t Mr House from New Vegas from before the war? He uploaded his consciousness onto a computer chip and controls all of New Vegas. Not hard to believe that other tech like this exists in fallout and the scientists are still somehow around/recording the data somehow.

I played a few hours of both 3 and 4 but finally gave into NV after it sat in my Steam library for a long time. Almost done with the main game, making my way through the DLC, I already can't wait to play it again from another faction/build. I plan to go through 3 and 4 first though.

Is it weird to say that I prefer Fallout 4 over New Vegas? I just felt New Vegas as a little disjointed, plus the movement speed felt like the bottom half of my character was a slug, but of course that could be a build issue or something.

No, because it depends. If you prefer 4’s story theres plenty to deconstruct there but 4 is a more modern up to date game so the movement and just generally how the game feels is going to feel far better. Regardless both games need modding to reach their peak (Also no it is not a build issue, theres just no sprinting in New Vegas)

New Vegas introduced the faction system and companion quests, it was a step up from fallout 3 which didn’t even have gun sights without mods. The game introduced new fans to the lore of the west coast from the original two games, it used leftover story material from project van buren which was the original interplay version of fallout 3 that got canceled because the studio went bankrupt.

Just Marathoned the whole series, A lot darker, sinister and grittier than expected. From any current TV show. Genuinely one of the best TV series made. Already looking forward to the next instalment Plus the dystopian sets where on point for a post apocalyptic world. Even non Fallout fans should love it. Hope it gets the love it deserves

I’ve basically only *heard* of the franchise prior to watching the show. Literally know nothing about the story of the games beyond “the world blew up from nukes and it’s a game based in the aftermath”. I just finished the show a few minutes ago and 100%, as someone who knows virtually nothing about the games (prior to this video I’m watching afterwards), it was incredible! Perfect cliffhanger too. Resolved all the questions I had throughout the season, but created new ones at the end that I’m beyond excited to watch unfold. 9/10 I think. Absolutely fantastic show

It's a retrofuturistic view of a world of 2077 from people of 1950s > nuclear apocalypse happened > 300 years of devastation and lockdown in a vaults > a present day in a world that have almost no idea how it was before the bombs Bethesda slightly changed this sequence making it more simple : retrofuturistic world > bombs > present. That's why in Bethesda's games world lives like everyone still remember how it was before the bombs. Also in original games vault dwellers were smart and adaptive people, yes the didn't know much about life on a surface but they were trained and educated. While Bethesda made vault dwellers look like a naive kids without any capability to act reasonable.

A Dyson Swarm kind of structure around the Earth wouldn’t harness escaping energy from the Earth, thus minimising losses? These losses come either from natural causes (sunlight reflecting on Earth’s surface, geothermal activity etc) or from human activities. Isn’t there some logic behind that? Fallout notes on plausible lore and some assumptions being made from the Fallout show. There are many opinions on who or what dropped the initial atomic bombs in 2077. However, it is not necessarily confirmed that Vault Tek dropped the bombs in a direct way, or in a controllable way, even within the Fallout show of 2024. The way of initial bombs dropped, may have occurred is that she (Barb) only made a suggestion they drop the bombs, but the situation between the nations was more complex and could not be that easily manipulated. Yes, the Vault Tek were manipulators, but even they had limits to what they could do, and may had over confidence on what they could do. It is still unknown as to who, (or what) cause the initial dropping of bombs. It should be noted that as seen in Fallout 76 that various types of bombs kept being dropped only a short 25 years later. There are still unverified facts in the Fallout universe.

The Enclave already existed Pre-war, close to 2077. It was the government that already was preparing for the great war. Since Vaul-tec was working with the government for their big experiments/project by analogy it was working with the Enclave. That's why such nefarious experiments were endorsed by the govern. Im not sure about the sources, but this is 100% canon. They were not "taken over" but they were associates, working on the same page/plan.

I honestly don’t know how people mispronounce things where there’s literally 100’s of examples on how it’s supposed to be said. It’s the “ON-CLAVE”. Tbh the story doesn't make sense. Vault tec is the biggest company the world making lots of money already, why go and destroy the world to sell some vault when it makes way more money to sell to the billions of human in earth.. this part pretty much killed the logic of the show. Also, the TV show is mostly based on fallout 3 and 4... not the OG fallout 1 and 2. For that, I am disappointed.

Well I think that vault tec was working with the enclave in the project safehouse to prepare people to migrate to another planet like earth. The people in the enclave knew nuclear war was going to happen and very few people in vault tec knew it was going to happen so that's why when the war happened. They were preparing with the enclave to leave earth.

I liked the show okay at first glance ..but so far other than Walter Coggins I’ve found every character grating and annoying. The only other character I could actually stand spending any time with they cut their ankle and essentially cut them out of the show. Maybe tv shows just aren’t my jam.

As much as I love New Vegas. I don't think that's the one I'd recommend to new players. It's fun. I love the story and quests. But let's be honest. On consoles, or without mods, it is a broken mess that can be frustrating. I always go with FO4 as a recommendation because it is the most accessible one. Then I go with NV with the promise of a better story, consequences, and characters but at the price of a lot of jank.

The classic "Fallout is zany and full of dark humor" ...only, it's not... it's hella bleak, and there are one or two funny moment that break that desolate silence, so of course the insecure among us will gravitate toward "Oh, Fallout is quirky" rather than the truth... "Fallout is dark, bleak, and foreboding."

@@super_terram If you honestly need specific examples of dark, tongue in cheek humor in the Fallout series, I have serious doubts that you’ve even played it. OR even worse, you have but everything went over your head. Yeah it’s post apocalyptic, and features extreme gore, social/political commentary but the entirety of it is embedded with dark humor. I truly don’t know how you could not know that. You can listen to the creation process of the very first game for yourself. Fallout is definitely bleak and violent and dark but the beauty is that overall it doesn’t take itself too seriously. There’s a very strong tongue-in-cheek humor in every installment of the series. How could you possibly not realize this!? Some of the things don’t quite sound right, but ultimately none of it matters. Bethesda literally refuses to use design documentation. Devs go with rule of cool, with no damns given about lore accuracy, retcons, consistency, nothing. Bethesda’s Fallout world-building is an objective farce, and I’m certain the show will be as well, since it’s based on the 4 and 76 reboots.

This video is awful if you want to watch a recap of fallout or are new to the games DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO!!!!!! They get so much stuff wrong in the first 3 minutes alone. What a terrible video
