There exists a theory suggesting that after the pilot, the side rods from Gordon were reused for Percy's model, and once you compared photos of the pilot Gordon model and Percy's model, it makes sense

Fun fact: it has been speculated/rumored that Gordon's connecting Rods were re-used for Percy's perspex model in season 1.

Not only would I like to see the pilot, I would LOVE also to see the footage from The Missing Coach as well. The HD DVD release of Coal of Henry crashing into the signal box (alongside all those alternate takes in over eps) goes to show that there IS material out there in the archives that we haven't seen yet. We need an ultimate DVD release. Plus an OST CD release... I'm not a demanding person... honest... 🤣

There’s a theory going around in the community that the pilot was released but the released it to the sodor island forum and just like with there missing coach stills they have been gate keeping it

4:17 is is believed that the infamous SiF crew have stills from the pilot with stories of Ryan having the images on his phone which he has shown to show people on his phone. One of the stills is believed to be Thomas on the road over rail bridge and signalbox set which is described to be very similar to the RWS illustration

Thomas has a history with lost media/cancelled media, doesn't it? Things like the 2014 movie, The Missing Coach, Gordon Goes Foreign, et cetera.

Gordon’s pilot model was actually used as a stand by model in season 2 but then it was dismantled and turned into scrap decor. It makes appearances in Toad Stands By And Thomas, Percy and old slow coach And his tender was reused for the final model

You know what’s even better? Our boy jacob ( the flying Pringle) owns Thomas’ crew and the original sir topham hatt head from the pilot episode, of course you knew that, but that’s still insane. Where does he find this stuff?

Absolutely love this video. Indeed, Martin Gill who made the models said in an interview from Doctor Who Magazine (another show he worked on) that he built the models of Thomas, Gordon and Henry for the pilot episode. I guess we will never really know if he ever finished it but I could only assume that if it was finished he would have been seen in the Pilot episode. Speaking of that Sam Wilkinson stated that while in Mattel's storage he did find the Pilot film reel but were really in a really bad shape, so I guess that if they are in such a bad shape and no one would be interested in releasing it the only way to see something from the Pilot would be to see the stills from it (they do exist, they're owned by the Star Tug Trust). Or perhaps the script from it which is indeed owned by someone in the fandom. Though who knows when these will be shown...

People have contacted Ian (The current owner of Thomas & Friends) and he has said that for the 80th anniversary the pilot may be released. But nothing has been confirmed yet.

The thing that I don't understand about Rick Siggelkow being handed the pilot in the late 1980s... Wouldn't it have made sense to send him a few episodes from the finished series? After all, in the UK, Thomas & Friends was already two seasons in by the time Shining Time Station began development. But no complaint, it's basically how someone ELSE - especially in America - got to see it. I, like many others, would love to see the pilot. All the pilots and unmade iterations of the TV series, actually. Nice encapsulation of this piece o' lost media!

We know that the models of Thomas and Gordon from the planned pilot were later used for scrapped engine models as set dressing.

Actually I've emailed Mattel about this pilot and that I wanna make a recreated about it in Blender 3D. I've no idea if hey knew what I was talking about, but they've said that they won't gonna release it, but still on a second thought, I don't think they knew what I was talking about there cuz they have said that: "We don't have any information when it'll be released again." , when it was never released. Could even create a pilot for the Andrew Lloyd-Webber series. I'd also do this for ANY series with lost/unproduced episodes, like Dad's Army.

Just a correction to an error you made at 1:23. That shot is actually from the remade version of down the mine as in that scene, when Thomas bumps the trucks, he is shown with red lining on his splasher, his lamp and lamp irons and the windows have yellow lining.
