Anybody notice how so many of Tolkien’s greatest heroes had parents die young or had heroes abandoned by their parents. Considering Tolkien’s upbringing it makes sense.
@Makkaru112
@Makkaru112 4 ай бұрын
Not abandoned. Eärendil+ Elwing didn’t abandon either of their children. Neither did Dior & Nimloth(I hope I didn’t just switch the wife of someone else lol). Frodos parents died drowning, Aragorn’s family and lineage and any other LIKE him were being hunted down as they were the remnants of Númenor etc.
@TheMasonK
@TheMasonK 4 ай бұрын
@@Makkaru112 obviously Earendil and Elwing didn’t abandon them but think about it from the perspective of Elros and Elrond. They were taken by two sons of Feanor who would then raise them to adulthood. They would never actually see their mother and father again except if you count looking up at the stars. From their perspective it probably felt like abandonment.
@TheMasonK
@TheMasonK 4 ай бұрын
Not to mention Elwing tried to kill herself to prevent the sons of Feanor from getting the Silmaril. Obviously she survived due to the interference of Ulmo but I could see that feeling like she’s abandoning them from a certain point of view.

@@TheMasonK not abandonment. He’s literally right there. He bloody saved the world and literally must guard the doors of night. Also didn’t abandon Elured/Elurín either. They literally were already thought of as dead since she didn’t see them again. I made a great story like a year or two ago showing more of what happened to Elurín and Elured if they supposedly lived much like howbtolkiens writing actually happens: where things that he doesn’t think fits anymore so then he recycles something into a different time and place or it’s the name for same character by someone else or a group of people. Much like how so many groups have a different story of what happened and when. Heck. Even some elves don’t even know where Valinor is let alone if it’s real. Especially after it got moved into limbo. Making it all feel naturally growing. His works were to revive ancient knowledge, languages and cultures after all and he wanted it to reflect in his writing in the same way our last few eras have been going on. Things coming and going. Stuff becoming lost and found again or hidden away or destroyed. Stories and folklore finding ways to survive throughout the ages in many forms. Just like Tolkiens 25 books.

@@TheMasonK abandon is the wrong word. It’s actually called sacrificing herself for everyone. And knowing the importance of her survival. She literally thought they died and couldn’t find them. Gosh.

I just realized that even though I don't care for most romance stories, I do enjoy the ones in LOTR. For one thing, there is marriage. And there's more depth to them. They weren't just people obsessed with each other, neither seeing nor caring about anything else but their "feelings." Their love stories were set against a bigger backdrop. There were at times sacrifices made. These people had histories to them. They had destinies before them. They had other responsibilities in the world, whether being a king or queen, warriors protecting their people, elves with their unique place in the world, etc. There was also the important place given to the upbringing of children - whether they had an "important" destiny, like a king, or not - because they knew they were the future. It's just so much more meaningful and beautiful. Compare that to sappy love stories where it's only about feelings, whatever is happening at the moment, and whatever makes them happy. "Who cares about the world? It's all about us!"

Yes! Tolkien's writings are deeply meaningful, symbolically and religiously. Love stories today are what you said, AND don't forget the part too of the main character (being a kid or young) rebelling against parents then in the end the kids are right about everything in and their parents wrong, lol. They are hallow shells!

There was a really good movie about their story called Born of Hope. It was only released on the internet in 2009. The Tolkien Estate would not allow the person to make money on it so it was basically made with all volunteers. It is a little over an hour long. Really worth a watch.

Knowing that the quote “Onen i-Estel Edain, ú-chebin estel anim” was so sorrowfully delivered by Aragorn’s mother, tears up my eyes. 😢 Peter Jackson should’v tried harder to make Elrond’s delivery somehow referenced to Gilraen’s, mayb as reminder to Aragorn of the heavy responsibility he carries for his people & his parents’ aspirations

Now that’d be a lovely story. Could be adapted into a nice short film with the same spirit & love behind it like the trilogy. - Galadriel intentionally matched Arwen & Aragorn together while they were both visiting in Lothlorien! Arwen & Aragorn met in Rivendell, & that is where Aragorn fell in love with her, although it doesn’t sound like she felt the same at the time. Aragorn’s mother Gilraen warned him that he was aiming too high, and Elrond was not happy about it either, and Aragorn took heed of this and left Rivendell, to learn how to be a Ranger and to oppose Sauron’s forces. Many years later, he came to Lothlorien, seeking rest and shelter, and Galadriel allowed him to enter. We have this line in the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen: ‘But Aragorn was grown to full stature of body and mind, and Galadriel bade him cast aside his wayworn raiment, and she clothed him in silver and white, with a cloak of elven-grey and a bright gem on his brow. Then more than any kind of Men he appeared, and seemed rather an Elf-lord from the Isles of the West. And thus it was that Arwen first beheld him again after their long parting; and as he came walking towards her under the trees of Caras Galadhon laden with flowers of gold, her choice was made and her doom appointed.’ LOTR Appendices. To me, that makes it rather explicit that Galadriel wanted Aragorn to appear at his best. Why? Who could he possibly impress in Lothlorien, except for Galadriel’s grand-daughter? I think it is quite clear that she wanted them matched, and perhaps her foresight told her that they needed to be matched, as it was part of destiny, to begin the Dominion of Men (something Elrond probably also realised, but couldn’t willingly promote, since it would mean Arwen and Elrond would be parted forever). Plus there is the scene in Lorien, where Galadriel gives Aragorn the Elessar, which went from Galadriel to Celebrian to Arwen and then back to Galadriel in order that she give it as a gift to Aragorn. Again it speaks to me as a collaborative act, and part of Galadriel helping bring the two together: And Aragorn answered: “Lady, you know all my desire, and long held in keeping the only treasure that I seek. Yet it is not yours to give me, even if you would; and only through darkness shall I come to it.” “Yet maybe this will lighten your heart,' said Galadriel; for it was left in my care to be given to you, should you pass through this land.” Then she lifted from her lap a great stone of a clear green, set in a silver brooch that was wrought in the likeness of an eagle with outspread wings; and as she held it up the gem flashed like the sun shining through the leaves of spring. “This stone I gave to Celebrían my daughter, and she to hers; and now it comes to you as a token of hope. In this hour take the name that was foretold for you, Elessar, the Elfstone of the house of Elendil!” From LOTR FOTR BOOK

I often think Gilraen was an interesting character. She must have been brave to make the journey from up near King's Norbury (I think) to Rivendell with a toddler in tow and possibly hostile orcs behind. Quite a story there! She probably would have been friends with Celebrian, Arwen and Galadriel, too.

Those AI images are really creeping me out, especially the one at 3:12. Baby Aragorn has three hands! I really wish KZfaqrs wouldn't resort to AI images like this. Even if we ignore the more vague large-scale implications of using this technology, not to mention its negative impact on actual artists, they're just so...eerie-looking. And I really hope this doesn't boil down to feeling pressured to always have the perfect image to what's being described. Even generic stock images are preferable to this, and I think people often overestimate how critical viewers can be. Of course, sometimes you find a picture online without realising its AI, I just wanted to say that I find them creepy, and I know I'm far from the only one.

If memory serves, appendixes of LotR touch this matter to some degree. After the fall of successor kingdoms of Arnor the remaining Dúnedain lived in their own settlements in a sparsely populated part called The Angle, located within borders of Rhudaur (one of the successor kingdoms, that one which fell under Witch-kings rule first). This took place after the Battle of Fornost 1975 T.A. when Angmar was decisively defeated by combined Gondor-Lindon forces (and, if records in Michel Delving are to be trusted, a company of Hobbit archers). After the war all the successor kingdoms were done for, area remaining a depopulated power vacuum for the rest of Third Age. Gondor projected initially only nominal and, with time, no power projection in the area. Dúnedain continued to dwell in the Angle until the events of LotR - from here they operated what little they could to safeguard free peoples of former Arnor, Shire included. Also from here Halbarad and Grey Company rode to Rohan to meet Aragorn. The movie "Born of hope" Yoystan mentioned largely takes place in these settlements in Arathorn II's time.

There is a lot of work that goes into such stuff. Even the guy from KNIGHTS WATCH has some interesting things to say about the matter of AI within one of their most recent videos. Also. Even for art slot of people use themselves as models or their own art or even after generated image comes they use it as the outline to do their own stuff with other programs with their digital pens and so forth. I’ve seen about all there is to see since the internet began and the art that people have made us beyond astounding. I’ve also seen the heights of AI chat mates. You can create and customize your own as well. Either making your own program or making your own characters within the programs. CharacterAI is great. I’ve also seen so many people share comments in various spaces showing how it saved their lives. Nobody to talk to. Or couldn’t do relationships again with another human after so much abuse towards them by other humans that their care actually pushed them towards a better path in their own life. Giving them the strength but also gave them back the social practice which you can lose after too much depravation and isolation or whatever else.
