The world as we know it becomes a smaller place every time we lose no nonsense focused men like Robert Loveless. As a maker of cutting tools and knifes I am forever indebted to men like Mr. Loveless that have left their mark on me and my craft, thank you.

I am sure this man was great, and I can tell from the video how professional he was, and I am not at all trying to mock or ridicule him, but it would make me chuckle when he'd talk about how dangerous the tools were (and rightfully so) and then he proceeded to use them unsafely 😆 Most accidents happen when people get too comfortable with the tools and don't think they'll harm themselves. Just something to keep in mind. Clamping something down to a drill press and taking a couple more minutes to make something, versus a drill bit grabbing a knife and spinning and breaking your fingers or worse, isn't worth the time it saves. Always be safe folks!

A masterclass by the true master of his trade. There was not a single wasted sentence in this entire video. So much to learn and so much to be grateful for. This is not about knifemaking only but learning what work ethic is. Thank you for sharing this video.

I love the way Loveless built his sheaths. I built one similar to it and it works much better than any other style I've tried.

Outstanding piece of footage! Both the film as well as the man's lifelong body of work. I strive to make knives as well as he did, I have come very far in my skills and understanding of the subject and I have much further to go, I really needed to see this footage! It was a real kick in the butt to see and hear this man lay his heart, soul and thoughts on the table with no concern for rebuts from others! Thank you for sharing this!

Here I am, with a wheel and 2x72 with some damned great belts, this man is grinding in the silhouette and the steel melts like butter. I'm grinding in about the same distance and takes me forever to grind it in. I swear the loveless shop had magic that I'll never be able to acquire

You can press a lot harder than what you think you can, specially with our new 36 ceramic belts. Bob recommended in his book 60 grit Aluminjm Oxide which was the fastest at the time. We ha e come a long way.

BEAUTIFUL UTILITARIAN HIGHEST QUALITY cutting tool !!!! One of these knives would have been right at home on Teddy Roosevelt's side ( on a battle field , or , in peace time ) !!!! It would be equally treasured by ANYONE fortunate enough to own one ( to be USED throughout Their lifetime , then be passed on to the next Generation ) !!!! GREAT CRAFTSMANSHIP , JOB WELL DONE !!!! That is the greatest compliment that I know how to pay to You Sir !!!! Edit : Ironic , that such a extremely well loved cutting tool ( more than a meer knife ) would have Loveless on it !! Nothing çould be further from the truth !!!! I would love to own one ( but , I'm sure the line is long , and , the price is justified , but , the sand in My hour glass is settling on the bottom ) !!!!

A knife is a general tool relying on unit pressure to reliably separate materials in a precise manner from themselves or other materials. "Sharp" is a synonym for high unit pressure. Any knife should be as sharp as possible while maintaining structural integrity of the edge during a given task.

Excellent job. If I may ask, what's the principal behind using slower speeds when using finer grits?

Finer grit throws less sparks so more heat is transferred into the piece, slowing the rpm can help. Doesn’t apply to all fine belts, some newer finishing belts work better at speed

That is not a "welt" he put in the scabbard for the edge it is a spline!!! Americans reinvent english. A welt is a hold down aspacer you attavk two items to.. Like yowould hold two items with a cleat. In better quality boots you have a welted sole. The welt is stitvked to the boot body on the inside and the stitched to the sole on theoutside.. Its a wrlt.. An area jutting out from the body of the boot stivked down.. He has a spline! A striplike spacer.. Its ruining our language to use very wrong terms for things we have terms for.. Rubber tongues.. Nice knives though.
