Having been born and raised in Alaska where my ex-brother in law used to go commercial fishing I can say the Bering Sea is not to be fooled with. That's why the Discovery Channel show "Deadliest Catch" films there!

Are these Bering yachts suitable for cruising in the tropics? islands of SE Asia and the Pacific for instance?

Bering and CDM are strong competitors: both are excellent. CDM starts at 92ft LOA; Bering at 65ft. If style is important, CDM has the famous Italian pizzaz. If operating single handed, the smaller Bering 65 is optimal. My portefeuille would determine which to choose.

You being ex Navy, as am I, you will understand the old fighter jet saying "if it looks right" same goes for a hull design, and you can just see with the Bering designs they are very capable !! They just look right, I would be happy sailing a 77 or 80 pretty much anywhere !!

I like smaller boats but wasting interior space is not an option so having a tender on the fore deck or retrieving it from the roof of the fly bridge is a must and an anchor locker really? Set a hydraulic reel wench on the fore deck and close her up tight with maximum elevation of the floor on the on the forward deck leaving the interior space for use worried about strength or setting the girl on her toes add a bigger stronger forward beam Portuguese bridges open and close due to weather and need only rise a little ...this trawler improved area would be self washing in higher seas and no offense this is an owner operated vessel so how about a beach deck with a li dumbwaiter would be fine that way the beach club could provide a decent shower and day head next to the master cabin and put the guests and passage food storage ahead of that then the engine room would be in the bottom of the boat with beach club access a few steps down or from an emergency hatch forward ...not much valued to me spent in the master cabin but bathing washing drying and fresh air of a beach deck garage while at anchor flawless and of course a smaller hydraulic reel anchor on the bow for cheap off shore harbor accommodations...more boat for the buck and even the flybridge could house the owner cabin with guest engineering below deck just above the engine space ...do not waste space on an upper helm one is enough leave cattle doors to either side port and starboard for viewing the lines of the boat ...I like the direct wired helm station remotes for that ...main deck salon and galley all one area with sliding hatches to rear main deck areas so all can be one weather permitting all under hard cover and lets be honest the sun is best enjoyed off the boat and the tender should be center console and at least 25 feet in length diesel lightly powered and fueled from the mother ship for fishing options and the rear entry wide enough and railed for trolling options when making passage the beach club garage door with 2 opening one for the reel anchor and a standard water tight hatch for beach club entry when at dock that way the boat can be easily provisioned with extra freezer refrigeration and pantry just straight past the master guest cabin and from the hall a dumb waiter to provision the main galley...

I agree that they look great. I like the idea of a steel hill since most yachts in this range (even those calling themselves explorer yachts) are FRP/GRP hulled. However, I am not certain about the quality or engineering with Being yachts. I have heard some unflattering reports. Try the Darwin class from Cantiere Delle Marche (CDM). CDM is an Italian yard with a great reputation. Their new Flexplorer yacht is also an innovative and interesting design.

Why don't you show it in nasty seas then?
