Something interesting that a lot of people don’t get due to lack of context: the wolf walkers are fairly explicitly meant to represent Irish Travellers, an ethnic group in Ireland that diverged from the sedentary population after being displaced by British settlers. The caravan they’re travelling in at the end of the movie is even a traditional Traveller caravan.

@@bdariamihaela I being a local don't really know what is of tourist value but the cathedral is pretty and kitlers inn does great food, the streets themselves are great for aesthetic and picture taking in places. Honestly we read Breadwinner as part of a school assignment back in the late 2000s and I really enjoyed its themes as a thinking topic. When I saw a movie by the same name I was instantly curious and watched as soon as I got the chance. No regrets, the memories of every little word from the book came back. I got to see this story once again now portrayed with a lovely art style.

You know, I'm nnot 100% sure. It felt like things were fairly similar but I haven't read the book in well over a decade and a half. I do want to get ahold of another copy and rewatch the movie to see what stuff got left out.

@@bdariamihaela they mean that the books are good and they (i as well) have faith that the studio will be able to make the film just as good as the books are. As someone who’s favorite book since first grade had been the My Fathers Dragon trilogy, I hope that it will be just as good as well. Although I trust that this studio knows what they are doing.

Little detail on the “magic in the mundane” thing, that’s one of the things that separates Irish folklore from a lot of mythologies (mostly down to Catholicism trying to remove as much of the old religion by reframing deities and such) but it’s a big part of what a lot of people find special about Irish mythology (as am I, even if I feel our education mainly focused on the least interesting parts and just ignores it after primary to maybe focus on Rome and Greece). As for the studio, I’ve known about them since Breadwinner came out when I was in Primary, but have only ever seen one of their short films. I love their style so I’m gonna have to watch some of these no matter what.

Of these I've watched Song of the Sea and The Breadwinner, though the other two are available to me. God I loved Song of the Sea. I watched it when I was eleven years old, it was a Tuesday and I had missed my school bus that morning. Because the next day was the start of a week of vacation, my parents allowed me to stay home, so I went on a movie marathon. It was the first or second one I watched, and to be frank, I was not expecting much. It felt life-changing. I watched Th Breadwinner about a year later, maybe less, once at home, another during English class. It was certainly very raw. Like you said, only watch this if you feel ready mentally.

I own both Secret of Kells & Song of the Sea & discovered them both thru humble means as a kid. Both thru my local library in their kid's DVD section & Song of the Sea also throught an art exhibit at that library done by a now family friend of mine who does sculpting/painting. I was enthralled by Ashling, the forest, the faeries in Derry & the Gaelic song by the mom. Also discovered the Breadwinner thru that DVD section & have watched it 3x. It is hard to watch but feels rewarding, eye-opening & educational. Plus the crisp animation is gorgeous compared to some of the others. Never heard of the Wolf girl film nor the upcoming Netflix show

You made me vibrate, you say it very well, I cried many times because of the movie Wolfwalkers, I really like it, I saw it many times in English, I'm Spanish, it has a very simple script but it delves into the artistic aspects and uses several techniques that give it a 3D touch. It was a lot of effort for Cartoon Saloon, someone told me that Tomm More in an unofficial interview said that they were going to make the 2nd part of Wolfwalkers in America...Take care, greetings

@AuraOfANobody
@AuraOfANobody 2 жыл бұрын
They're referred to by Cartoon Saloon as the Irish Folklore Trilogy, yes - In fact, that's the name used for the box set of the three movies, as seen on both the box itself and on Cartoon Saloon's store! They're more of a thematic trilogy than direct sequels (If you play games, think something along the lines of the Final Fantasy series; there's shared ideas between the titles in the series, but aside from a few exceptions generally not direct sequels continuing one overarching narrative), though there are also little nods in Song of the Sea and Wolfwalkers to their predecessors: Aisling appears as a cameo in Song of the Sea on a bus taken by the protagonists, and both the Eye of Colm Cille from The Secret of Kells and the shell flute from Song of the Sea make appearances in Wolfwalkers! They're there more as easter eggs than any direct connections between the films, but I figured it was worth noting :0
